New previews of Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle

I'm buying but not 100% I'll love it. Like Mario, like strategy games. I'm sure I'll enjoy it when I get it. Dunno why I'm kinda iffy. Guess I'm just itching for Odyssey.

Wow, just came across the boss track for Rabbid Kong on Twitter. It almost sounds like a rearrangement of Grant Kirkhope's DK64 OST, specifically parts of Army Dillo's boss track.

That's such a blast from the past. I'm a huge fan of DK64's OST and found Kirkhope's take on DK music really novel, so hearing him do this kind of music again in full blown orchestrated quality is so cool.

Yep, that's more than a little reminiscent of DK64. I've heard great things about the music for Mario+Rabbids but not actually heard much of it yet myself... listening to that track now, it's just as great as I'd expect from Grant! I'm a little sad now not to be getting the CD OST from the Collector's Edition of the game, but I'd have nowhere for the statue and it'll be easy enough at least to get a digital copy.

Hmmm. I've got them all and that was the only one that stumped me for a while.

Well, I'm right at the end of the second world and I think it's time to call it a day. I've been on the game for practically 12 hours straight. Time for some sleep, methinks. :)

So it's possible to get every chest in world 1 already just from that push ability we unlocked? I thought we'd need more.

I'll have to have another wander through tomorrow then. I didn't want to come back and look for them unless I knew I had every ability needed.

They mean you can't skip something unless it is being played.

Yes, you can watch cutscenes again when you go to replay the battle.
Awesome! :) This is good because otherwise I'd be spamming the capture button each cutscene thinking it's the only opportunity to get the perfect shot. Had to do this during BotW, and it was rough!

I asked before but it's really a simple question that will tell me a lot.

When can you save the game? Any time or only between "missions?"

I forgot about Grant Kirkhope doin' the music until I watched the Kinda Funny video.

I was cooking breakfast so I may not have been paying enough attention, but do you specifically have to aim at enemies for AOE stuff? I'd like it to be the same as XCOM where you can aim between people to get both of them.

Questions:

I thought I read somewhere that this has 2-player co-op? Is that correct?

Is there anyone here who is playing it who isn't used to playing strategy games (like XCOM or a SRPG)? How is it for people who aren't too good at SRPGs or have little experience with the genre? How accessible is it?

I think there's a separate co-op mode. I don't think the main game has co-op. Sorry man.

There's a separate local Co op mode, but I've not tried it yet.

It seems accessible to me. I've played srpg's before, but every element it adds, it gives a short tutorial for. Remember it's published by Nintendo.

Levels also give a clear option for an easy mode at the start. So there's that if it's a struggle.

How much RNG is there? I always go back and forth on how much randomness I want in my strategy games.

The damage hits give is random within a small window. Status effects also have a percentage chance of taking effect. Different weapons are more effective against different enemy types.

There's a orchestrated remix of a boss theme from Donkey Kong 64 done by the original composer in a spin off Mario XCOM game starring cartoon rabbits.

What a time to be alive.

This is the lost soundtrack to Banjo Threeie

Can Kirkhope compose the next Mario RPG game please

Mario RPGs getting music by the Kingdom Hearts composer and now the Banjo Kazooie composer is pretty neat.

The previews have been pretty great so far, wouldn't be surprised if this ends up being the best Mario RPG to date...though it wouldn't be too hard to pass the latest entries.

Wait can I get a link to this?

Edit: I take it it's the "rabbid kongs " theme

It's not an RPG though...

Yea, the first bit of the song is a remake of Army Dillo's theme from DK64. Which itself is a Grant Kirkhop remix of a Grant Kirkhope remix of a song originally done by David Wise.

So this is a Kirkhope remix of a Kirkhope remix of a Kirkhope remix of a Wise song! Which itself is inspired by a song by Benny Goodman, which was a redone version of a song by Louis Prima.

The Army Dillo theme was a remix of something? What would that be?

Jungle Japes

Which is the wildest remix of Jungle Hijinx out there because it starts off as just a generic N64 remix of the original SNES song and then goes into some crazy freestyle jazz that was never in the original. It's also missing like half the original SNES' song to replace it with its own little thing. The loop is entirely different. It's a cool little look into what another Rare composer (Kirkhope) would do if he was able to remix something another Rare composer did (Wise)

You also get Kirkhope's trademark "ambient animal noises are percussion" which sadly died with the N64

So happy my initial hype and gut reaction to this game is being rewarded. Can't wait to play this.

This is going to be a very Switch holiday for me and i'm really amazed, and happy about that.
