Feel like Samsung is nearly there.

Fix the fingerprint sensor. Get rid of the bloat and keep steady smooth performance for more than a week. Quicker fast charging options?

It's embarrassing that other struggling companies are releasing phones for similar prices yet are missing like headphone jack lol.

Yeah. Sammy really is putting most other companies to shame. I don't even dislike or mind not-touchwiz anymore. Hell, it's the best looking heavy OEM skin. I just want faster updates from them and a way to easily root and unlock the bootloader when they drop support.

Does the S8 also suffer from lag after a few weeks/months of usage? It's one of the main reason that puts me off Samsung...

It is faster than the G4 plus, but way slower than 835.

The same

We kinda did though. The Nexus 5 was 300 and had a top of the line SoC. Similarly the OnePlus One. That's the point of the Nexus 5 comparison. With normal progression there shouldn't be any competition, 2017 should smoke anything from 2013 because it's 5 years newer.

I use tongue emoji soften tone; joke. I didn't mean it directly, but that the bench showed favorable results that made it look similar to 835 which I don't think is representative. They were multicore benches. They're not useless, far from it, but as you said single threaded is very important for general speed and webpage bogged down with heavy scripting still brings a lot of phones to their knees and is a real world task. iirc geekbench is also one where A53 does comparatively well. Not sure exactly why, but pretty sure crypto plays a role.

I'm not arguing A53 at 2Ghz isn't faster than A53 at 1.4Ghz, of course it is. I'm arguing it's still a lot slower than a big core like the one found inside 660 and 835.

The 625 offers incredible efficiency with good enough performance. That was the killer feature of the Moto Z Play, not benchmarks.

Ymmv. My at&t bloatware one wasnt doing too hot before i sold it 2 months later. It's fine but compare to more stock phones I have like pixel or op5, it's night and day.

So it is likely that the Note 8 will have the same issue then... That's sad.

My Nexus 6p got updated to Oreo tonight. The glance lock screen for notifications is pretty cool (kinda reminds me of the glance screen on Windows Phone, RIP). Any option to change the new white theme that's applied?

Buy the Exynos versions and you'll have root and TWRP and custom ROMs within a week every time a phone is released. Only the Qualcomm versions are locked down tighter than Fort Knox.

Ask me about the GAF Notebook
Buncha tpain doges that waited 100 pages to give their thread title hot takes when Mr BT graced us with a glorious OT. Not to mention nobody ever wants to do it anyway.

Also stop being scared and come say hi in our discord. :p

New update for YouTube has HDR for S8 family. Probably not many videos but good to have I guess. I wonder if you need RED for it?

When you see this as your YT options mmmmmm

So, Google customer service has won me over. They sent me a brand new Pixel XL to replace my dying Nexus 6p (that was out of warranty) at no charge.

I've had my Nexus 6p since launch, so it was well past its warranty when I started getting random shut downs from around 20% to 30% a couple months ago. It finally died when it got stuck in an endless bootloop shortly after. Made a call to Google support and within 30 minutes, even though it was out of warranty, they offered to replace my phone with a refurbished Nexus 6p.

Was pretty happy with the refurbished 6p as it looked brand new and worked great. However, after a couple weeks, the battery started going again, shutting down at around 20%. Made another call to Google support and they surprised me by offering to replace the 6p with a brand new Pixel XL.

Received the new Pixel XL about two days ago, and really enjoying the hell out of it. Battery life seems to be a huge step up.

Goddamn that's awesome. I told me friend about this to let him know that he may be able to take advantage of this.

I've been good, stuck with my opo for little over 3 years now and it's time to treat myself.

The experience with opo shaped my must haves for the next phone and helps narrowing the choice:
-high end SoC again, really helps resisting the upgrade urge down the road
- easily rootable/unlocked bootloader, community support for ROM's (excludes Kirin SoC)
- >85% screen to body ratio
- >4000 mAh battery.

3 contenders left, Huawei P10, Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 and it's predecessor.

Mi mix 2 looking really good, hopefully the early adopter tax fades quickly.

Calling Google about my bootlooping 6p later today. Thanks for this

it's gonna be some real fuckshit if Samsung makes YouTube require Red to work in floating indow mode in Android O.

it's worked fine for half a decade.
I doubt Samsung would do it, but I def see the folks at YouTube implementing some code to detect whether YouTube is in a floating window.

If I could get the Exynos version on a monthly payment plan, I probably would. Can't and don't want to pay for it outright.

$200 phones web browse as good as $800 phones lol.

Sd625 family is really good on performance and battery!

Also kinda hard to beat nexus 6 these days surprisingly. 1440p 6" amoled screen and headphone jack is better than most stuff lol.
If only the KeyOne on AT&T had Wi-Fi calling, I'd have gotten it.

I keep my s8+ on medium power saver to keep the CPU at 70% max clock rate. Can't see a difference between that and full clock rate for web browsing tbh.

That mate 10 leak seems to be legit. More pics are out.

Man I kinda want one...

Hope they don't skimp on battery. Keep around 4000mah pls.

Any way to know when Oreo will be available on Nexus 6? I'd like to try that out. I'm on a custom rom so I doubt I'll get a notification to upgrade.

It'll never be available on Nexus 6 officially; it has reached end of life.

You'll have to wait until Custom ROMs start popping up. I think they're still too green for daily driver use but some are already out there.

I'm hoping Pure Nexus is eventually updated to 8.0 for the N6, but AFAIK they drop support at the same time Google does (N5 didn't get Nougat for instance).

Sooner or later we'll get stable LineageOS builds and that'll be the way to go.

So, I'm looking to replace my Droid Turbo 2 with a nice, unlocked, budget-tier phone. I haven't looked at phones in nearly two years so I'm completely lost - is the Moto G series still a solid bet?

May have gotten stuck there, it happens sometimes. is your phone still on a beta version of Android?
It says I'm on 8.0.0 so I think I'm on the official release. I don't remember getting any updates since the final build started rolling out though.

If the security is still July I think it's gotten stuck. Try opting out of the beta and opting back in. Failing that just flash the security OTA that came one this week.

Everything apple pro did another speed test. Most notable is that essential struggle. Jesus.

Guess performance isn't essential.

Note 8 is impressive too. So that 6gb ram is important, especially compare to s8 which reloads all the apps.

Weird that oneplus was struggling on one of those rendering apps.

Hmm, we never learned what type of storage The Essential is using? Looks like that's what's holding it back. A lot of the slowdown could be writing to NAND.

I feel like Android 8 made the battery life worse on my pixel. Also gave me a notification banner regarding background apps that I can't clear

anyone know if there's some kind of app that lets me get the blobs back? Can't stand the new emojis...

the hell is going on with the essential phone lol

that can't be normal. Also the A11 is going to be such overkill in the new iPhones lol.

I think you have to root for emojis, but there's an app called Hide running in the background Notification that does what it's called.
