No more Arkham games coming says Kevin Conroy

Link.

According to our 'Batman: Arkham games ranked from worst to best' list, the running order of Warner Bros' caped crusading games on merit reads as follows: City, Asylum, Knight, Origins. According to Kevin Conroy, the voice of Batman himself, this list will remain forever unchanged because the publisher is done with the series.

Story-wise, Arkham Knight definitively concluded all that had come before it, however Arkham Origins—developed by WB Games Montreal and not Rocksteady—provided a side venture the main series failed to explore. The idea that similar games could surface down the line isn't implausible, then, however Conroy is sure WB has left the series behind.

When asked by a crowd member at last weekend's Nashville Wizard World Comic Con if Warner Brothers was working on the Arkham series or if it had plans to expand the existing ones, Conroy said: "You know, I can’t believe that they’re not going to do another one, but they’re not. Isn’t that amazing? It's… they made literally billions of dollars on those games. But, no, there's no plan to do another one. Sorry."

Actually relieved to hear this. While Knight wasn't as good as I had hoped, I'm glad they're retiring the series while I'm still a fan rather than keep releasing games until I'm sick of it.

They've shown with Knight that they have run out of ideas. The batmobile was a fun addition but nearly all the side-missions and activities were bland and derivative. Better to end on a high note (AK is still a good game) than drag the series completely into the ground.

I have mixed feelings. Arkham Knight really soured this series and left a bad lasting impression of what could have been one of gaming's best trilogies.

I'd love to play another one, but I don't trust them to make another game that isn't bloated with tank segments and features yet another "the city just so happens to have no civilians in it" situation.

I actually loved Arkham Knight, but I'm nevertheless relieved. Maybe in 5 or 10 years I'd want another, but there's plenty to revisit and they did a really great job with the whole "be Batman" experience.

True, and it's a bit of a shame considering the side quests in Arkham City were so cool and surprising. I wish they had done more quality / less quantity with certain things in Arkham Knight, but nevertheless I really enjoyed. I think they might have just spread themselves a little thin with designing everything around the Batmobile stuff.

It would be nice if the developer tried an original IP next. Asylum, without the open world, is still my favorite.

Wait? City and Asylum ranked worse than Knight and Origins, if I'm reading that right?

Didn't the latter two spark the most controversy? Or is their metric purely on sales?

Sad day. This was one incredible series, even Arkham Knight. Sure, it had a few problems, but still a great game.

This series was literally the first batman game not to suck, at least for me.

Do we have any idea what rocksteady is doing?

Yea I agree, im currently playing through Knight and altho its good, i havnt got the same wow feeling i had when i played Asylum or City. I wouldn mind it returning but a good few years down the line.

They've taken the current formula about as far as it can go. The Arkham branding too—eschewing that name would be helpful since they wouldn't have to be so tangentially tied to that Asylum anymore.

The only game aside from the first that even came close to justifying the Arkham branding was the ending of Knight.

Indeed, the 3D metroidvania aspect always puts it above the others for me. Perhaps a new IP with that structure in mind.
It's fascinating how even a mimicry of a Metroid game can elevate the experience, regardless of quality.

With the way WB are heading as a pub it's probably a good thing. I thought Rocksteady were one of the best new devs from last gen but after AK I'm not so sure I'm looking that forward to their next project.

Fine with me. Had fun with the series and thought all the games were great (except Origins, which I haven't played), but it feels pretty much done. Batman had his time in the sun, now let the age of awesome Spidey games begin.

I actually didn't realize AK was so disliked until I roamed the internet after finishing it

I really liked it. I, however, agree that the batmobile was excessively use d

Matter of perspective really. Knight is a quality game in the grand spectrum of games, but when compared to the rest of the Arkham sub-series (bar Blackgate), it is not as refined and is more tedious as they try to add more shit to it.

Good.

Now can you please retire and stop being Batman so we can have new voice actors?

Nah fam you good.

Having said that, it's easily possible they've hired a completely different guy to voice the next Batman and thus Kevin wouldn't be in the loop. So this tells me nothing.

Still, I'm done with Batman in games until they're ready to take that next step:

Loved all 4 Arkham games but glad it's not being run into the ground. Best to leave it while it's still good.

Hope Rocksteady are working on a open world Justice League game, in the same style as the Arkham games, that would be pretty cool.

Just my opinion and all, but that tier-list is wrong. It's Asylum, Origins, City then Knight.

Completely agree. Origins showed a maturity and seriousness that was lacking in the other games, and Knight, no matter how I look at it, was a disappointment, tank-wise, villain-wise (Arkham Knight not Scarecrow who was great), climax-wise, and story-wise

I wouldn't tell Conroy even if there was one, dude has a motormouth when it comes to talking about the games way too early

I wouldn't hire Conroy even if there was another one, dude also has a habit of phoning his Batman performance in at this point. the dude in Origins sounded better than Conroy in any of the Arkham games tbh.

like yeah the cartoon was great and also the other dc series' with his batman was nice as well but that was so long ago.

There's no way that Damian Wayne game Jason Schreier said was supposed to be revealed last year wasn't real. So, either it straight up got cancelled, or Conroy doesn't have a clue.

What if they're doing another but he's not involved? Who did the voice of Batman in Origins - it wasn't him, was it? I find it hard to believe that Warner will completely give up on the series given how successful it has been for them. Imagine the microtransaction potential by doing jack-in-the-box Joker themed lootboxes!

EDIT - also, what happened to that one in development that got rebooted, but Warner Montreal I think? Unless it got totally shitcanned.

Well they're done with Arkham, but maybe do another batman under another name, like Gotham?

I seriously doubt any in-house dev under Warner will develop anything original. Between Lego, Harry Potter, LotR, DC Comics, Mortal Kombat and probably others, WB aren't going to take the risk with something new when they have a lot of mileage in their already-established brands.

Possibly both! Last Schreier mentioned it, the whole project got rebooted.

And Conroy never had anything to do with WB Montreal's game anyway, so why would he know about a new game?

Nice to see some Origins love here, personally Origins might be my favorite Arkham game.Knight was by far the worst,I had to force myself to finish that stinker...

And I agree with Smith being a good Batman voice.
