The fact that MJ molested kids makes it hard to think of him as ever being cool at this point.
i've never liked prince's music so mj wins hands down.
Prince and its not even close.
If we're talikng talent thats a closer argument.
Based on music...it's PrinceBased on music alone, MJ by a fucking mile.
Cooler? Prince. Nobodys ever been that cool.
Prince was cooler, MJ had a higher number of memorable songs though.
One of my favorite Prince performances was when he did this performance with some other legends:
https://youtu.be/6SFNW5F8K9Y?t=3m21s
He still stood out, such a showman.
Prince had more talent musically. Not even a question. He was a master with his instruments.
Indeed. His catalog is far more diverse.Based on music...it's Prince
It's not even the diversity, it's the fact it's better. Michael is my favorite artist of all time, but Prince to me is the greatest of all timeIndeed. His catalog is far more diverse.
MJ by a mile. I don't think many people tried to dress or dance or act like prince at his height. His music had wide appeal but his style was pretty niche. MJ had a generation of people wearing high waters, black shoes and... fucking white socks. White socks with black dress shoes! Think about that insanity for one moment.

Are we talking about the actual artists or impersonators? If people bothered to impersonate prince back then I'd post a picture of a loser in an assless one piece.Like this cool guy right?
I mean MJ has six rings and was an unstoppable offensive force. He also owns his own team, so I gotta go with MJ.

Sickness. Takes it to a new place. Silky smooth playing with some really creative work, somehow captures a new spirit. Raw and emotional like Hendrix or Stevie without looking like he was trying too hard.
Compare this performance with Clapton's [starting at 3:30] (which I also love)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rj4J6i_vw0w
Clapton comes out a bit more understated and also more in line with the orig. more tug at the heartstrings with a vocal like guitar tone.
EDIT: great comparison for anyone doubting that Prince had some great chops, both him and clapton were asked to 'do the honor's' for this, George's masterwork, and they both bring the house down.
Okay first, nopeThe fact that MJ molested kids makes it hard to think of him as ever being cool at this point.

Get the fuck out of here with that Jordan nonsense.Being the GOAT will always make you cooler than everyone else.
I agree with this.Coolness went to MJ. Those moves. The clothes. Everyone wanted to move, look, and act like him. Even through his various personas and issues you still thought of him as being cooler / more interesting than anyone else.
Sexiness went to Prince. He had his own unique style. It was dangerous. Exotic. Provocative. He had a slew of gorgeous women in his stable. And he could shred on crazy looking guitars. You didn't want to be Prince so much as you wanted to be in his world.
That's the difference between the two to me. They're both equally brilliant for what they set out to do.
You can't be taken seriously if you say that MJ was never cool.
That is an objectively dumb statement.
mass appeal doesn't always mean something. fidget spinners are popular for christ's sake!
my favorite prince solo

it's a travesty how underrated he is a guitar player
He looked like such a joke at the end of the bad video. Like it was hilarious, the 3 of them could have bitch slapped MJs whole crew.
I never looked at MJ and thought cool. Talented yes, but he was always kinda weird.
