Nintendo Direct September 13th for Switch and 3DS

You can definitely distinguish between the people who had sky-high expectations on here and who didn't, lol. I should've went with my gut feeling on the old prediction thread when I said that we weren't getting much.

Overall pretty satisfying Direct. Definitely had some shortcomings and lacked some games I would've thought were shoo-ins, like where the hell was Platinum? But Doom and Wolfenstein were awesome surprises, Octopath demo was great, and Mario just steals the show every time the game shows up. Arcade Archives are fine for now honestly... We didn't think we'd get VC at all until 2018 so I count it as a good thing.

This was almost exactly what I expected and there were no surprises that were shocking enough to trump my hype predictions. If you were hype you're a fool and put too much stock in Nintendo. Knowing what their teams have in development and what possible announcements they have should make it obvious they wouldn't have anything big and new to announce here.

The only physically possible surprise would've been Smash For Switch, which they didn't need to announce now and could just put off until later. They need to focus on hyping up this holiday season, not the future. That shit will come in January and beyond (and that shit will only be Smash For, and other stuff we've already heard of, until E3 or next fall).

Huh. Me and 3 mates just watched that and we're hyped as hell for a ton of stuff in that Direct. Surprised (though I probably shouldn't be) that the tone is so gloomy in here.

Oaft, Mario is shaping up to be awesome. The game blows my mind and puts the biggest grin on my face every time I see it, can't wait!

Xenoblade 2 looks sick as well, I'd buy it on release but with it being so close to Christmas might just ask my parents to pick it up for me, they always struggle for gift ideas.

Cannot wait for Doom, Wolfenstein, Skyrim and LA Noire.

Octopath Traveler looks like a ton of fun and the visual style is really charming.

Gonna double dip on Rocket League for sure.

Switch us shaping up to be a cracking console, it's gonna ruin my wallet.

Man, it takes a lot of talent to fill 45 minutes with so little new content lol.

Like I'm super happy for the DQ Builders port (that's releasing way too late IMO, Doom and the Octopath demo... But geez.

Some pleasant surprises like Doom and Wolfenstein - would have never guessed that they were coming, but I'm more than pleasantly surprised!

Other than that it was a bit disappointing. Would have appreciated one new (small) Nintendo game instead of that short update to Flip Wars that nobody wants. Odyssey looks fantastic as always though.

Rocket League looked very rough btw. That wasn't 720p right? Or was is the stream compression?

Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.
Eh, from the perspective of someone that has a PS4 it's hard to get excited about those two specific Switch ports since they don't really gain anything by being handheld. There's no real reason to purchase them on Switch.

You can take them console games on the go.

What more reason so you need?

That was a pretty good direct. I would've loved a release date for Stardew Valley though. Still, Xenoblade 2 and Mario Odyssey look fantastic. And I'll probably end up buying Skyrim for the 3rd time.

Meh, pretty underwhelming. This years lineup is really solid but I guess I was hoping for new stuff here, like for the future. I'm way less interested in seeing extended footage for games that I'll just be playing myself in a few weeks.

Still no Animal Crossing? :( They really are doing a stupid free-to-play cellphone one instead of just focusing on a Switch one aren't they?

And those mini consoles have killed the VC completely. :(

Being portable means a lot more then people think.

I'm sorry but any direct with a game that looks as good as Mario Odyssey is a 10/10 automatically. That game looks like possibly one of the best games of all time I'm so excited.

Up there with the most disappointing presentations I've ever wasted my time on. A bit melodramatic I know, but I just recently got a Switch. The hell am I supposed to do with this thing besides Zelda?

Wait what? Were you relying on this Direct (which was clearly a round up if whats coming in the next few months) to provide previously unannounced but imminent games? If you were expecting this Direct to announce games for you to somehow play *immediately* besides Zelda then I don't really know how to explain why that's a silly thing to expect.

And if you bought the thing and don't like anything that's currently available/upcoming except Zelda then you probably should have waited dude.

Super Mario Odyssey continues to look like The Good Shit! TM Still not sold on the Switch as a product (at least to the point of trying to pick one up anytime soon), but that Odyssey Switch bundle is admittedly pretty tempting for me. I can definitely see that helping the Switch sell (even more) like hotcakes during the holidays.

Kirby Switch looks promising. Legit laughed at the giant clumped ball of Waddle-Dees and Buff Jojo Dedede.

Doom and Wolfenstein II coming to Switch was surprising. Between those two and Skyrim, Bethesda seems to be among the more visible major third-party studios throwing their hat in the ring regarding Switch support. Wonder if Fallout 4 on Switch is on the table with the publisher.

Rest of the direct was whatever. Had a very clear focus on RPG stuff more than the other genres IMO, with how much screentime was given towards Xenoblade, Project Octopath, and Fire Emblem.(That said, I came in 10 minutes late, so I'll have to catch up on the 3DS stuff.) Obligatory:

5/10

+Octopath
+Doom/Wolfenstein port
+Morphy's Law looks neat

- Not a lot of Ultra SUMO info
- 10 minutes of Xenoblade tutorial
- Few new games announced
- No new Animal Crossing

Yep. The biggest thing I took away from the direct is that virtual console is not a thing anymore. Bummer

Haven't been keeping up, what was announced in the JP Direct that wasn't in NA beyond PSO2?

That'll likely come in the January 2018 Direct.

To be honest I didn't even watch that because the point of the game is exploration and I'm already sold.

They're certainly not instilling much confidence

Maybe because it's still September, they still have two big first party games coming out this year, a hardware bundle, a ton of indies still confirmed for this year, etc. And skyrim, la Noire, etc.

Why the fuck do you think they NEED to give people a reason to buy one NEXT year already?

May I have a cookie?
This Direct was like a small E3!

DOOM + Wolfenstien 2
Minecraft 3DS and Minecraft Dragon Quest for Switch
More good looking 3rd party JRPGs on either system than I care to remember!
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 THIS YEAR
and Monolith seem to be getting better at designing characters with faces!
MARIO ODDYSEY is going to be HUGE!
ARMS Update Now
Octopath Demo Now

More Pokemon, Layton, Rocket League
New Splatoon 2 Content!
Battling Robots with expanding heads/limbs/
dongs
Switch getting a free MOBA
Fire Emblem Warriors for all!
BUFFED UP DEDEDE
Snipperclips DLC!!!!
L.A. NOIRE
and I can't even remember everything!

They can't win. If they show stuff that's quite far out, they've nothing really to gain and people would get memory loss and judge games that aren't due for release for a year like they've gone gold. Better to focus on the coming quarter and build people's hype for stuff that's coming soon.

Edit: Can we agree to nuke that stupid fucking "You;ve got a switch" gif. Every time I see it I assume the poster is like 13 years old.

First party game coming out this year

I would've preferred the direct to be 5 mins shorter if it meant that they had cut down on the Xenoblade stuff. Way too much information delivered in a dull manner.

If you got a Switch now and aren't interested in their holiday lineup then thats your problem.

I guess it's better to get an AC announcement like three months away from release than eight months prior, so I'll give Nintendo the benefit with holding off. Metroid and Pokémon were mentioned early to appease the complainers, but otherwise they've been pretty hush.

This was a solid direct. Especially Octopath Traveller looked amazing and seems to have some interesting mechanics. Also interested how Doom and Wolfenstein turn out.

Oh I know, but when you announce a presentation that's far longer than your E3 one, you set up a lot of expectations. And this was like 90% known stuff.

Even some slight tease for something to look forward to E3 and the like would have been nice.
