Project Octopath Traveler on Switch 2018, demo on eShop [Up: Surveys sent out]

I love it. I love everyfucking part of it. The writing, the music, the visuals, the gameplay, that fucking voice acting.

OH MY GOD THIS BATTLE THEME IS AWESOME

Love the visuals, atmosphere, music, story intro, voice acting, battle system... Great demo!

This is so bought!

What a fantastic game. Love the battle system once you get used to it, it's really different and fairly intuitive.

Can't wait for the full release to see how many other random old men we can beat up.

Despite the game not being ready for at least 4 more months, I really appreciate the demo has 6 languages available. <3
And being able to switch to English or Japanese dub.

Damn, I was hoping for a crispy 60fps. Would be so much more enjoyable to look at and experience. Still seems to be the makings for an awesome rpg, and the music is pretty good as well.

I am loving this music. Whoa.

It makes more sense than Bravely Default.

8-path Traveler. It's pretty straightforward, I think.

Sure it makes sense but that doesn't make it a good name. Thinking they'll change it pretty soon hence the 'Project'.

Hell, call it 8-Path and it's an improvement.

8-Path just makes it dull. This is stupid. Stupid is better than dull.

Demo is awesome. Day one. What a creative and endearing JRPG. Seems primed for replays, too.

And HNNNG that visual aesthetic. It's gorgeous.

Really love the visuals (and the music!!).

Yes indeed, the same visual style should be used to remake Final Fantasy VI.

Are there any other games that use a similar combination of pixel art, polygonal 3D environments, pixelated textures, and modern lighting/shading techniques? The Last Night (ugh) is the only one I can think of.

I'm not sure why people are complaining about the title though. Octopus Travelator is a great title.

Xenogears? Lighting was very modern for its time! :lol

Aesthetically a lot more pleasing to me than the Bravely games.

I thought running around seducing people or dueling them on the streets was amusing.

You found the problem. People wouldn't be complaining if that were the title.

Somewhat reminds me of 3D dot game heroes (voxels)

8-Path rolls off the tongue and conveys the hook. It is dull.

Octopath Traveler is slightly redundant and sounds like bad translation.

Neither are good names.

They can and will do better hopefully. Game seems like it might be an unsung gem for the Switch. Really enjoying the demo.

I can't really see how a native English speaker would feel that "Eight Path" sounds more natural than Octopath.

How about "Path of 8" or "Path of the Eight"

Edit: These sound stupid the more I say them lol

Keep going and we'll end up here:

Best Primrose intro, really really loving everything about this. Writing is good and seems pleasantly mature and serious. Combat is a ton of fun and looks very promising. Really digging the art style and overall presentation.

One issue I hope they can iron out by launch is a very slight but noticable lag in the menus. Is not as smart as I'd like. Combat also had a weird hitch in loading the combat queue after a turn when an enemy was stunned.

Fez is a rather obvious choice.

I guess not so much the lighting, but I wish this game stuck closer to the pixel art aesthetic.

Does this demo feel like it's pulled from the game itself or is it just some prologue side story thing?
Pulled from the full game based on the Primrose campaign.

The writing is so good I want to keep playing. I normally hate turn based combat but this clicked with me. Great music. Great visuals. Played the demo for over two hours already and want to keep playing.

It's so good.

Eight Travelers could work too.

The title doesn't even need to be based on "Eight". Similar things happen in the SaGa series, and Treasure of the Rudras (Rudora no Hihou) featured four characters with separate paths that conjoin as one, yet it wasn't called Quadopath/Tetrapath Travelers.

Damn I really love the look of this in portable. It feels so right. Maybe it was the Warren Spector thread but I'm getting Suikoden vibes for whatever reason. Maybe it's the color palette.

8-Path rolls off my tongue but it's still a bad name. Octopath by itself rolls off and is dumb/weird enough to work. Adding 'Traveler' sounds dumb. Have a feeling we're getting an Eight Destinies: A Star of The Moon's Past type of nonsense here.

We're just having some fun.
