Loki is definitely way up there in "duh he's gonna be in" territory. He's the MCU's villain equivalent to Tony, in that he appears or is referred to in almost every context that would be appropriate. Him missing out is a giant question mark on this roster.

As well-known and historically significant as Daredevil is, nothing compares to the popularity of Marvel's movies. The most glaring omissions from a casual perspective are undoubtedly:
  1. Loki - He's the most mainstream Marvel villain thanks to his recurring appearances in the Avengers and Thor movies. I was positive he'd be in this as soon as the game was announced.
  2. Black Widow - She's the only original MCU Avenger who isn't playable.
  3. Star-Lord - He's the lead character of an MCU film series.
  4. Ant-Man - He has his own MCU film series. (I'm so pissed he was cut.)

Also Scarlet Witch and Vision. People keep saying Witch is a nono because shes also a mutant but its not like they killed her off in the MCU or anything. Come to think of it, it wouldn't shock me if they added one of those Black Order guys from Infinity War.

On the comic side, if we want to pretend they care to synergize, Kamala, Blackbollt, Squirrel Girl / Gwenpool are the most obvious omissions from the last few years. Well, not counting X people and whatnot.

PS4 version is now back down to £38 (£36 with Prime), after bouncing from 34/32 to two days ago going up to 44/42 on Amazon.co.uk

I'm still so on the fence about the game. Impressions are becoming a bit more positive.

You know why it's called a reset right? The combo counter number resets when the combo ends and a new one starts. Just look at the combo number. The second combo starts when Dante hits them with the shotgun when they are grounded as it's a fast overhead.

Better get used to spotting these resets because this is going to be early meta for the game. Especially if you plan to play online when people will be doing stuff like that on you.

But going off of the .zip files we only have one unknown Capcom character for season 1 to fill out those 6 slots. Season 2 is probably gonna be X-Men & Dr. Doom, or am I wrong to think that?

Your list makes perfect sense though for the most likely MCU DLC characters.

If I were Capcom then I would put most of my artists on that shit and take easy money from thirsty fanboys.

LTTP, but just heard some of the OST tracks.

Glad they used the RE5 mercs theme for Chris. Incorporating that track was the very first mod I downloaded for UMVC3. One of the most memorable RE tunes to me, coming only after RE2 ending & Rev 1 Ghost Ship.

Disappointed at Jedah's, was so hoping for Iron Horse, Iron Terror. Most riveting theme in all of VS.

Seeing a comment on Justin's stream about why she hulk is using swords and a gun actually made me wonder if one of the reasons she didn't come back is that Marvel didn't want two green women in the roster. Probably not, but it seems so strange they didn't recycle the sole female non-X Men Marvel character when the cast was obviously desperate for one.

Since game isn't being marketed towards Japan , they probably think that Americans only like guys and think that the Japanese taste would have been opposite but it's not a factor to this game.

Yeah. I feel Ghost Rider could have been dropped so they could include her, especially since not many cared for him in Ultimate.

That's a ridiculous idea, since in Injustice 2 seven of the initial twenty nine character roster were females while in Killer Instinct nine of the thirty character strong roster were females. These are both Western produced games that cater mostly to a western audience and both have twice as many female characters in a roster of nearly the same as Infinite.
Besides, Marvel had full control on their side (and could probably influence the Capcom side a bit) but they only cared to demand two female characters.

The game is developed in Japan.

I don't think that's a factor though.

There are some prominent absences in the roster on both sides no doubt. Some of the most publlic and popular ones that stand out to me are

MARVEL
  • Loki-top villain in mvu thanks to films
  • Daredevil-stars in the most popular mvu netflix series
  • Vision-probably one of the more exciting movesets to work on and someone featured in the cinemaverse. The moveset likely makes him a more solid choice than the surprising breakout fan favorite Antman
  • Antman-cinemaverse fave. Some neat potential for summon like moveset via throwing shrunken objects he can grow like cars at will at folks to obstruct or hurt opppnents. Plus ability to shrink to shrink hurtbox like a viewtiful dodge. Couple that with large hitbox summon proctiles and he could frustrate as a zoner.
  • Starlord- Chris Pratt is money and he made this character insanely popular. Itd sell copies on its own adding him
  • Gwenpool-sigh...hate to say it but shes marvels answer to Harley Quinn and its slowly gaining ground. Shes everywhere.
  • Ms. Marvel-by far one of the greatest diversity successes in comics. She has a great youth and ethnic market following as well as admiral fan numbers in general
  • SpiderGwen-one of the most popular and marketable new female hero designs in years. Also offers a chance to redesign a spider moveset..
  • Squirrel girl-popular oddball. Niche culthit character
  • Falcon-most prominent brother in the comics and cinemaverse. Flight, airdashes, guns, drone setups, tower shield...almost sounds like a new modok air pressure in and out character. Plus many alt outfit options
  • Luke Cage-the other most popular brother. Show won an emmy and the second most popular netflix guy.

..and thats not even touching the absent mvc3 cast or capcom folks or even ff and mutant picks.

Just a ton of missed opportunity prominent cast.

Playing UMVC3 again and reminded that there were some really cool, unexpected roster choices.
I was so excited by reveals like Super Skrull, Dormammu, MODOK, Taskmaster and Rocket (who at the time was super random).
This roster just feels so safe and boring. I mean who the fuck wanted Hawkeye is his dull modern outfit? Yawn.

So many missed opportunities for characters who could have potentially amazing play styles while also adding an injection of wackiness and/or diversity like Kamala, Ant Man, Vision, Loki, Gwenpool, Doc Ock, Squirrel Girl, Green Goblin etc.

Fingers crossed the DLC delivers, though Panther and Winter Soldier haven't got my hopes up, both boring characters from a visual and potential play style standpoint.

Yep, the roster sure feels safe even though I really like Captain Marvel and X's additions.
Let's hope for good DLC choices (apart from the must have characters that were in 3 but not here...)
