I am using an iPad Pro 10.5 with iOS 11. Is there a way to control the volume of a pop out app vs the main app? I have been using the Xfinity app on top of some games. I’d prefer Xfinity to be louder than the game. I don’t want to mute the game sounds but often they are louder than the TV stream.

I forgot just how long it takes to update an Apple Watch. Not just the actual install process, which is fine, but the downloading. iPhone took 15 minutes to download, iPad maybe 40. The update for the watch takes like 2+ hours. Then, it starts installing (just started a few moments ago for me).

I’ve got iOS 11 running on my iPhone 7 Plus. I like it so far. No speed issues and I’m enjoying the updated App Store and Podcasts apps.

Does anyone have issues where the control panel/lock screen/headphone remote controls don't recognise that a podcast is playing? It's been like this for a few of the beta updates for me with no fix - I can be listening to a podcast, but see no controls for it and when I click the button on my headphones to pause it starts playing something from Music instead. Only fix is to restart.

It’s nice that notification volume and system volume are tied together now, but why is that obtrusive volume indicator still here? Was hoping it would be more subtle. I thought it was supposed to be made less obtrusive for media.

I see, it works for online media... but not videos within the stock photos app. Huh.

The swipe up from the bottom seems like it would be more difficult an action to perform, however marginally. It is less intuitive than sliding an app over to reveal another, or to open the switcher. Even if it weren’t, why lose the gesture on every other 3D Touch-enabled device? Double pressing the home button is maybe least intuitive of all. Why force that again?

I don’t understand this decision. The 3D Touch switcher was a notable improvement to accessibility and speed.

The 3D Touch switcher improved the multitasking experience on iPhone. It hasn’t even been replaced—it’s just gone! That’s a damn shame.

Well, I'm not Apple so I can't explain why. But if the new "go home" is a full swipe up (on the X) and task switcher is swipe halfway up, then it seems like they're trying to centralize app management gestures. Also, as a left-hander, swiping from the right isn't as comfortable for me as swiping from the bottom, though I know lefties are the minority of users.

Yeah, the only home button function that doesn't seem well taken care of in the iPhone X is Reachability, which always struck me as an embarrassing band-aid anyway - it makes much more sense just to redesign apps such that the points of interaction are located at the bottom-center where the thumb is (rather than mimicking the desktop by putting it all in the corners) and to keep the upper parts of the screen primarily for visible information only.

But Apple didn't do that either. There were all those lovely mock-ups moving the controls to the bottom but Apple kept them at the top.

Gestures on the X are really irrelevant to my complaint. I don’t care what goes on there. It has a new interface and will require adjustments. I care about losing one of my favorite features from iOS 10, seemingly for no reason.

X is the future, as all future iPhones will have no home button, so they're designing for this future. This is just Apple's thing; they push forward aggressively and sometimes the in-between phases aren't as pleasant if you're not on the bleeding edge of their product line.

That’s fine—but again, this is not about the future. This is about losing an existing feature on an existing product. It’s literally a removal of something that was previously there. It’s not only for the devices moving forward. It’s for their previous flagships. As far as I know, they have never removed a feature like this.

Doesn’t work for me. I have to be at the home screen for the swipe to bring anything down.

Never mind, it works, but not when reachability is activated. In iOS 10 you could swipe from the top of the pulled-down image. 11 requires you to still swipe down from the top of the display.

I installed this on my iPhone 6S and was surprised how smooth and snappy this is. Much better than ios10 in my experience. I can get used to this until November 3rd.

Does pressing the WiFi button from the CC still just disconnect you from the network instead of turning off the WiFi radio completely?

Was this an 11 thing?
Yes.

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/ios-11-wifi-and-bluetooth-toggle-control-center-rant.2058474/

The behavior has not changed in DP4. The control center toggles for wi-fi and bluetooth do NOT turn off the radios, they merely disconnect the phone from any wi-fi hotspot and most bluetooth devices. (The BT toggle does not disconnect from an Apple Watch.)

I agree that this is not intuitive behavior. It is fine as default behavior, I guess, but there should be more options available via 3D Touch.

I've been having Bluetooth keyboard issues on my iPad Air 2 with iOS 11. It persisted through all of the Public Beta versions. I assumed the GM would fix it, but it's still happening.

When I turn on my Bluetooth keyboard, it pairs and the onscreen keyboard slides down so the device can see that it's there. But when I actually type nothing happens until I switch away from the app I'm in and then switch back. Sometimes I have to do it a few times.

Anyone else having issues like this?

Doesn’t work with reachability.
Still don't see how that's stoppping you from accessing notifications whilst in apps, well just have to stretch further than usual or use two hands

Unless I'm missing something extremely obvious here

Anyone else experiencing pretty poor battery life on the GM? Not just one device either. I wonder if it’s doing background indexing and cleanup, but it’s been several days already and it’s still much worse. Does iOS 11 have a lot more things going on due to the iCloud sync of things like Siri and Faces in Photos?

I’ve noticed the Usage time is much higher than it should be so certainly something is going on in the background. Gonna try turn off and on and see how it goes. :/

For anyone who has a copy of PCalc, there's a "hidden" AR mode in it that's the first one I've seen in the wild.

On the main screen, tap the Info button (i), then Help, then About PCalc, then tap the AR button on the left sidebar.

For some reason it worked really poorly at work, but now that I'm at home it seems to track much better. Could be a lighting thing?

I clarified with a follow up post. I kept trying to swipe down with reachability, like how it worked previously. Can’t be done now. Another example of things being made more slow and cumbersome.

my ipad air is slow as a snail on this gm =(

Sorry to say but with an older device always wait until you can read comments from other users. I have an iPad 2 that while it still functions, typing on the keyboard is laggy. We should have kept it on an older version of iOS so at least the Internet was usable.

My son has a 5S and I have told him to not upgrade. I can't see iOS 11 working well on it and right now his phone is fine.

I have a 6S and an iPad Air 2, I guess I'm on the clear to update without worrying about it lagging things down.

It was super laggy the first few minutes on the 6S.
I'm assuming it was just caching things. Ever since then though it's been fine.

Going to do my Air 2 shortly.

I put the GM on my phone and 10.5. Decided to do a clean install on the phone. The ‘quick setup', where it used the iPad to get a lot of the settings for the ‘new' phone, was really cool. Just had to have both devices near each other.

Nice! Tell us how it fares on the Air 2 too if you can. :)

I don’t get the point of this feature tbh. Does it carry over things an iCloud backup you would restore from doesn’t include?

From what I remember, it sets up your WiFi and iCloud so you can quickly restore from an iCloud backup.

Just noticed Final Fantasy Tactics got an update on the app store, does that mean it's safe from the cutoff of 32-bit apps?

I wondered why the handover icons kept popping up on my Mac after I'd turned my phone's bluetooth "off".
So, they didn't change it. Are you on the GM?

I don't get their decision, like why would you want to disconnect from the WiFi network but keep your phone's WiFi radio on? For Bluetooth maybe it makes sense.

Had tot downgrade back to 10, no matter how many updates and GM releases 11 got it was the buggiest beta I've ever used on iPhones.

constant notification center glitches, I hate the lock screen music view, how large everything is, multi tasking still stutters.

I am not looking forward to them forcing this update on me over the coming months.
