Project CARS 2 discussion thread (provisional release date: Septemberish 2017)

Nothing on WMD2 about it?
WMD has been mostly dead for two weeks (and I don't think it will be alive again, unless we are given early access to patches or stuff like that).

If things are like they were in PC1, all activity and info related to patches and stuff like that will be made public for everybody from now on.

Let's wait for a few more reviews. SMS seem confident that the pad controls are dramatically improved.

At this stage it feels like I'm just going to have to play it myself to actually know how good or bad the pad controls are.

I have it pre-ordered on Steam, so I have 2 hours to find out anyway...

Been banging on about the amount of glitches in the replays, shame they didn't get it fixed.

They're doing what PD did with GT6, as in hope the viewer focuses on the cars and not much else.

It's a lot like GT6 where they're doing very ambitious stuff while sacrificing visual quality and performance.

Very different way of thinking to GTSport and F7. Hence why I think it may work for them

I don't think you guys have to worry about the gamepad handling. It's been great when I've played it with my xbone controller and reviews seem to confirm that.

" The handling is utterly remarkable on a wheel or a pad"

"Project CARS 2’s new handling model is a tour de force. On a wheel it’s brilliant, from the feeling of being able to step the rear end out – and still save your car from what previously would’ve been a certain, uncontrolled slide – to the feel of the steering sharpening as your tyres come up to temperature, allowing you to really cut into corners and gobble up apexes. The sensation of grip is terrific but so is the feel of it going away, which is way, way more linear and realistic.

On a gamepad, though? It’s simply a different game to the first altogether. It’s just so much better. I haven’t even touched any settings; straight out of the box Project CARS 2 feels manageable and planted. It’s a fraction more numb on turn-in compared to the 1:1 directness you get on a wheel but the twitchiness of the first game is just gone. You don’t need a wheel to enjoy this deep, nuanced handling model; there’s a satisfying, challenging, and most of all manageable racing experience to be had here, regardless of your control method."

This makes it drive more than a Forza or GT then, right? Where it doesn't matter much how fast you flick the stick, the quickness of the steering input won't upset the car but also won't lead to a better turn-in response even if done right like a professional. I'd prefer this, if I was playing with a controller, but it takes some sim aspects away from the controller handling.

"Yes, the gamepad in Project Cars 1 was shit."
-- Ian Bell

Didn't quite expect that ;p
Having tried the Xbox version with a pad I agree 100%. Not really a revelation given pCARS 2 is here.

PC and wheel was okay once I dialed it in using a spreadsheet from the WMD forum.

Funny how PC2 makes suddenly GT Sport (with its lack of content) look better and better ;)
About which game do you ever say positive things? I mean, I'm happy your tone in here is at least above most of your comments on the GTS beta forum and youtube comments, but maybe formulate your criticism more precisely and in less sarcastic ways...

GTX 970 and R9/580 appear to provide 60fps at 1080P
Excellent, though, I eould have been fine with some lower settings.

No love lost from Bell towards EA it seems from this stream
Well, EA saved his ass, and he was clever enough to cut ties down before it was too late for his studio (DICE). I don't see why he would hate them.

Probably not the right place to say, but I don't want to act like a troll. After watching some FM7 I will pass on even downloading it. Good God, what a borefest. The driving looks awful and the AI as advanced as Super Mario Kart's. Sure, they don't pile up, but what's the point of even racing against an AI that is literally a moving wall? They don't bounce out of their line even when you crash into them or they crash into you.

It looks pretty, I'll give it that.

I'll give it a go, benefit of the doubt and all that, but I am not expecting much of a departure from FM6.

Ian Bell just confirmed that Classic Le Mans is coming as part of on of the DLCs on that stream. Along with classic cars as part of that.

I would probably do the same had I not caught a cold, being completely honest. It was meant to kill me some time before PC2 launches, but I'm not in the mood right now. Maybe in the future when I forget what I've seen today.

Ah, didn't even noticie they cut out of the game, lol:

He also confirmed a pack full of Ferraris earlier in the show.

Hearing Ian Bell talk on this stream, he sounds like an arsehole. But at the same time, its refreshing to have a brutally honest and brash person as a CEO.

Really? As I posted in the other thread, I thought it was utterly fascinating. Ian came across to me as a really warm and intelligent guy, and a totally natural orator with a great speaking voice. He's led quite an interesting life. He gave some great insight into the history of the company, their dealings with EA, the development of both pCARS games and previous titles, the state of the industry, his pirating of films (!), and loads more. He was very frank and forthright throughout. He also plays a mean guitar..!

Nice to put a voice to the persona. I thought he came across really well, and totally the opposite of his online reputation. I'd love to go out for a few beers with him, I bet he'd be great company.

Has he brought you a race car too? ;-)

This might have been mentioned upthread, but figured it might be easier to ask anew....but when making changes in the graphics area in the PC version, you dont have to restart the game every time you make a change like PC1 do you?

Every little change of a setting seemed to require a full exit and restart of the game, and that got to be pretty annoying while trying to dial in settings and a good FPS for those of us who need to fiddle with settings like that.

Works the same.

The answer is just above your post. GT Beta until 1.08 was going from bad to worse and after so much time spent on development there was no excuse for the laziness of PD.

Thank the Gods for Digital Foundry. Putting in work for the gaming public :)

So it looks like on the Pro (I only watched pro and base PS4 info) the rain and snow with full grid scenarios are where the tearing comes into play, which makes sense. As you can tweak so many of the race settings, I'd hope I wouldn't run into these scenarios much if at all - BUT, how often do these taxing scenarios come up when you run the game's career mode? And is it possible to run career races, and still tweak them to help performance? Left to my own devices I can probably avoid a lot of these problem areas, but if the career is just going to throw me into them that's another matter.

And is this game a perfect candidate for offering both performance and resolution presets on the beefier console hardware? If I had the option I'd opt for 1080p on the PS4 Pro if it would help mitigate the tearing, but that option doesn't seem to be available.

Has Ian Bell said anything about releasing a demo? Would like to try out gamepad handling on consoles vs. listening to varying opinions on controller improvements.

Admittedly, I only caught the stream midway through. But from what I’d heard he seems to be very outspoken and very fitting of his online persona. Bold and brash. I’m not saying that’s inherently a bad thing, there are some good arseholes in the world, logical and straight forward ones, he kinda fits that bracket. All credit to the guy for actually speaking his mind though, it’s also very good of him to do things like this and also his open participation in the GTPlanet forums, cannot fault him on his fan engagement, especially when compared to Yamauchi and Greenawalt - GTS marketing is just plain confusing at times and Forza marketing is next to nothing these days. I’ll probably go back and watch it from the beginning. Also I can attest to his EA experience, they are soulless bloodsucking corporate ghouls who are always ready to drop you or cut you off at the drop of a hat.
