Skyrim Special Edition's All-New Survival Mode Coming Soon (not free)

Can't I just limit myself to the same parameters? Seems silly to charge people to take away abilities and add extra meters to manage.

Even if this was coming to the Switch version, there's zero chance that I would pay for this. Even if it was free, I might not even download it, lol.

This is nice for the ps4 players that can't get this as free mods.

It sucks that they would have to pay for it but it's better than nothing.

There's already a free and amazing mod for this.

What we should be talking about is Skyrim having coop soon via a mod. Now that's awesome.

Yeah dudes. This was my first thought when I saw it wasn't free. "I'll just get mods that make this mode for myself, and better tuned to my preferences." Nice try though Bethesda, I'm sure you will get a lot of bites with that mod though.

On one hand - survival baked into the game proper is a game changer. That's how I WOULD play Skyrim on Switch...

On the other - 800 points for a feature that's free in every other Beth game that has it so WTF

It basically is if you can spend 10 minutes downloading the appropriate mods. I'm pretty sure most of the mods that cover this have already been ported to SE.
Do they support mod items? I remember Fallout NV and 4 supporting mod items for the inbuilt Survival by calculating values based on weight, iirc.

They are actually charging for a difficulty mod? Shouldn't have expected anything else from the publisher/developers that brought us horse armour.

Hopefully this doesn't catch on like that did.

You're fucking kidding me? 15 bucks for a new mode in a 6 year old game?

Come ON. I mean, I almost never gripe about DLC or prices, but like.... the fucking balls on these guys. Especially considering it's Skyrim, and thus has been done via mods in probably a thousand different ways by this point.

Silly how they just straight up sell mods like that.

It's also up now on Steam Beta (via opt-in beta option of Steam) if anyone willing to dl and check it out for more info on this mod.

Despite my bitching above, I'm not actually 100% clear on the "free for one week."

Free to download and own indefinitely? Or free to use the mod for a week, after which you must then pay?

I honestly like these survival modes but the way of buying this by making you pay for more points then you really need is scummy.

What the fuck is this shit?

Why, after a decade or more of content like this being free, are they suddenly charging for shitty mods like this? They built a huge community out of providing easy to use tools that dedicated community members could use to create new content. Why do you suddenly need to charge for it? No one has wanted this content to CHARGED AT ANY FUCKING POINT! Seriously, I never met someone who was like, "man, SKSE and SkyUI are awesome! They only way I can see this being better is if I had to PAY FOR THEM!!!".

Seriously, fuck off Bethesda!

It's free to download and use for a week, but then you have to pay continue using it.

Screw Bethesda. TES6 is going to be such a clusterfuck with this crap.

So, just read into this some more

Looks like this is actually a GOOD thing. It's going to be better than all of the mods it's replacing due to it being programmed natively into the game rather than hacked into by the scripts.

The rumor is that it was actually created by Chesko himself

Ok, so if you don't download it within the first week it will cost $15?

I mean, I agree with people saying it would be irresponsible to refer to this as a free mod just because it's free for a week but.... it's still free if you download it within the week, right? Like, you don't HAVE to pay for it. Unless I'm misunderstanding something about how Creation Club works?

yea this doesn't bode well for TES6 at all

maybe BGS can make a competent RPG on their own so that mods are no longer necessary (lol ya right)

Not only will the next Elder Scrolls have all this shit baked in from the start, I fully expect Bethesda to keep dumbing down their formula even further.

It's almost hilarious in a sad way that people will pay for this, when literally the exact same thing has been a staple mod for tons of players for years now.

I don't know. One article I read says it's a free trial and then you have to pay.

Another one said you have a week to download it after which it will cost.

Oh boy, really? That's honestly beyond ridiculous.

Also, I'm sure that for the past 10+ years Beth has been warning us of installing and then removing mods partway into a playthrough. Guess that's not important when there's money involved though.

This is a lite repackage of Frostfall, iNeed along with a no-fast travel mod then... PC users don't need this but I can see how console users might be all over it.

EDIT- Still shm, those microtransaction "points" bundles are so shitty, I had to deal with them in BioWare's PC games for years and they're still alive and kicking. It's just grossly anti-consumer.

Wow 8 dollars for this is ridiculous. Especially when you could just not fast travel, sleep in a bed when you level up, carry less stuff, eat and sleep regularly, etc. on your own volition for free.

Care to provide some examples of the benefits being derived from this? Theoretically, you could see a performance benefit, but as these kinds of mods are likely low in resource intensity as it is, nothing obvious springs to mind.

Ridiculous. Who on Bethesda thought that this was a good idea?

Business people.
