Bluehole in talks with Sony about bringing PUBG to PS4 after XB1 launch

Pretty sure the talks were happening no matter what, but Fortnite may have pushed them to make this announcement at least.

Yeah, releasing the game a year from now, months after Xbox and PC, will be too late. Everybody will have moved on to the AAA version of it.

I don't think they are shook, but I think they realize how stupid it is to play coy about this like they were doing earlier.
My understanding is that deals like these prevents developers from openly talking about the "other" version/port. Hence, they were playing coy.
Why at the bolded? Playstation has early access games, I think the Publisher just have to release a physical disc also
Deal with MS is why that's happening.

I always kinda assumed it was an early access release on Xbox and would come to Playstation upon full release?

Edit: Wait does Playstation have early access game?

Ninja edit: duh fortnite. never mind me I'm talking bollocks.

Fortnite (a.k.a. competition) is just what Bluehole needed.

damn right. people are discarding the pressure that fortnite put to pubg developer, but now its apparent. The game was heavily marketed as a xbox one game and only implicitly coming to ps4. Now that fortnite is making the rounds they are going all in the ps4 version. I believe pubg already lost in the ps4.

I'm not so sure about that.

But however, somebody in another topic mentioned how cool it would be if TLOU2 had this mode. I think that'd be a great fit for this type of game (though I'd never play it since fuck paying for PS+).

Then why talk about it now? Surely that's some sort of breach?

They definitely were. Before E3/gamescom, Bluehole had made it clear that while it would come to the Xbox One first because of the early access program MS has, it would still come to the PS4. But after those shows that suddenly clammed up about any other version of the game. They'd repeat how they were working with MS to make the Xbox One version and couldn't speak about any others. Then the BR version of Fortnite launches and suddenly they want to remind people that they're totally working on a PS4 version of PUBG.

Because they have like 0 free resources and managing 3 separate platforms is fucking hard when they can barely manage PC.

I know they have a deal, Unless you are saying they deal with MS is that they keep exclusivity for the entirety of early access

The only conclusion I can make is that they are really afraid of conceding PlayStation market to competitors, namely Fortnite.

Yeah that's what I was saying. Exclusivity until it is out of early access.

Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch
So does this means the game is not a clunky game and a GOTY candidate when it launch on PS4?

Yep it's true we've seen a couple of games coming in early access state on PS4, including Ark, but even this one was rejected first by Sony, they changed their mind later. Honestly no one can say the PS4 is open to early access games in the same way the Xbox One is with its Game Preview program. If course if you have to make one exception, that would be PUBG ^^

This game is going to be fucking massive once it hits consoles.

The game sold in excess of 13 million copies in half a year and has so many concurent players that Bungie stoped putting player numbers publicly for Destiny 2. Its massive as it is and a rare phenomenon, it does not need consoles for that.

Many console players keep repeating this, but they all seem to forget its a game throughly and utterly designed for playing with mouse and keyboard. The models you need to hit are tiny, made for viewing up close on a computer monitor. The inventory is designed for drag n drop, with a mouse. The sudden apearance of an enemy in close proximity needs the kind of reaction and speed only a mouse provides. The game has shootouts at immense ranges where you need to hit targets quarter of a pixel big.

So the games requires a huge redesign in gameplay and rebalance in order to be enjoyable and even playable on a controller. Unless they nail that feel and use console players are accustomed to, this will be far from huge on consoles.

Probably spurred on a little by Fortnite, but even so, between this and Fortnite, there's one you can play without PS+ and one you can't

Like I said. I don' think they are shook. Either way they are ceding ground because it's launching later on PS4.

I just think they realize it's stupid to play coy about this shit. Especially after the Tomb Raider situation.

If that was the case they would have realized it much sooner. Tomb Raider situation happened more than a year ago. For them the main thing that has changed is Fortnite.

I'm not all that surprised that it will eventually come out for PS4, but let's hope it's Q1 and not next holiday season. Their competition already has a foothold, especially with it being completely free to play right now on PS4. And with Epic being rather diligent about patches, by the time PUBG comes out on PS4, Fortnite will be way more fleshed out with content.

So let's hope Bluehole doesn't fumble. They have an incredibly successful game, but with the idiotic comments about Epic and the smokescreen that has surrounded the PS4 port, I hope they don't squander that success by creating a negative image of themselves.

For you.
Source?

No they are definitely shook.

The game literally got announced as a "console launch exclusive", which is just a dumb name for "timed exclusive".

If that was the case they would have realized it much sooner. Tomb Raider situation happened more than a year ago. For them the main thing that has changed is Fortnite.
We literally already knew it would be coming to PS4 after the full release. This isn't new.

Wait... what classifies a game as "early access" as opposed to just getting the shit patched out of it, if it releases to retail?

Openly? Source plz.

I believe a while ago PU was at an interview and talked about their plans to bring it to XBO first in early access and release it on PS4 with the 1.0 release just because of the differences in their early access programs. However the most recent statements from the company itself definitely focused solely on the XBO and refused to make any statements on the exclusivity or status of a PS4 version until this one.

I can see Microsoft pulling a Sony (ala Monster Hunter) and saying that PUBG is not allowed to be on PlayStation for a long time but would be ok with a Switch version of the game, especially since they allow cross-platform play between them.
