Updated PSVR unit announced

If I already own a PS VR, can I swap out my old Processor Unit with the updated one?
Because the cables of CUH-ZVR1 and CUH-ZVR2 are different, you cannot swap the Processor Units.

You motherfuckers.

Not getting taken in again.

Hail, peons, for I have come as ambassador from the great and bountiful Blueberry Butt Explosion
I really hope this improves chances of getting a PSVR in Japan. I still haven't seen any in stock at stores at all since release.

Glad I've waited before buying PSVR. Wasn't planning to get one until Ace Combat 7 is out.

Yet this makes me think that when PS5 is released, it'll be launched alongside its own next-gen PSVR.
I mean, Sony had no problem with launching 3 new pieces of hardware last Fall. The slim PS4, PSVR and PS4 Pro.

It doesn't affect me at all with this upgrade.
But what the fuck Sony, for people asking for HDR. This is so bizzare.
What is so new about the cable? It's still that 2 hdmi-like cable going into PU, and the wires behind seems the same. The only noticeable changes is the tiny stupid little box from the extension cable.

Cool as an owner of PSVR this adds some helpful stuff to improve it but does not affect screens (in vr unit) or anything to make mine less bare the HDR pass through. This is a nice touch up revision. Also shows Sony are commiteed if they were not happy with sales etc would just keep producing an old model and not spends loads of money re tooling and getting it approved for sale etc. Also think this likely means that no PSVR2 will PS5 time which is good too as i bought day one and dont want them to burn the hardcore fans so soon.

Whilst it's a bit annoying and a major fuck up to not have it work at launch, I'm upgrading simply for the HDR passthrough. Having to switch things around all the time made me much less inclined to play VR.
Can't wait.

They really couldn't make an adapter to use the new box with old cables? :/

Sounds like they are just trying to avoid selling the Processor Unit separately.
We'll wait and see how different it is, again, not that it affects me in one bit.

Also a huge missed opportunity to introduce other colors.
Vita 2000 did that, come on Sony.

Definitely not "too soon", I expected this half a year ago, to mitigate the HDR fail. A pity that the new box is not compatible with the older headset, but all the improvements are useful.

Anyone expecting major changes were illusional, this is still a console. And there you just simply can't make the platform as mushy as in the PC world. PSVR will not functionally change much before the PS5 generation.

That's kinda shitty to replace launch units in less than a year. Christ.

It isn't replacing anything, just streamlining the user experience. Less cable management overall, and no need to move cables for HDR.

It's a shame they aren't replacing the PlayStation Move controller entirely. It really holds back the potential for PSVR implementation.

Hey, at least they didn't pull the OLED to LCD screen "upgrade".
Just port relocation and HDR passthrough.

Didn't bundle a camera with every unit by default cause a handful of "their best customers" already had the $40 peripheral. #4thegamers

Updates $400+ peripheral less than 1 year later with major QOL and functionality improvements forcing "their very best customers" to repurchase said $400 peripheral. #Fuckthegamers.

Probably has an updated IMU and tweaked lights to fix the drift and wobble as well.

link to that switch you bought?

And...uhh a pic of your set-up?

It's this one,

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00W6XRCKA/

Got it after reading this article,
https://www.outofcontrol.online/perfectish-setup-ps4-pro-ps4-psvr-hdr/

It can be a bit picky about HDMI cables, but I got some of these at the same time,
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00NEMIY2M/
And had no problems.

Not at home so can't take a picture.

Of course the new break-out box isn't compatible with the old one. A cable adapter would be too much to ask smh.

I wonder if Sony will wait for inside out tracking for their next one, thus actually making the current PSVR obsolete, or if they'll go with a lighthouse or multi-camera setup and allow current users to partake as well.

Welp, using PSVR continues to be a hassle of swapping cables. First you decide to release it in the first place lacking HDR passthrough. Then you finally fix it but make it so people who already bought it can't get the fix. You know what, Sony? Your shit just continues to make me less interested in using this $400 paperweight. Well, that and there being next to nothing good to play on it.

Drift and wobble was never a problem with the light tracking. It's the gyro and accelerometer.
Those problems can be solved by placing your HEADSET on a flat surface while it's booting up.

*HEADSET, OOPS.

As a early PSVR adopter, I can't help but feel disappointed about how Sony is handling the PSVR situation, I feel bad enough to never be an early adopter on anything Sony related, shameful.

The device is one year old. If you are upset about HDR passthrough, fine, aside from that, huh?

This is very positive. Sony are actually manufacturing a new version, it means they intend to support PSVR for the foreseeable future. This is the best outcome, updated to show Sony are still interested, but not crazily changed to make the old version inferior.

Inb4 Vita 2000 heh.

Yeah I mean that's all I care for right now (assuming they have also fixed the PS4 Pro blackout issue too) Given that at the announcement of PSVR they were also touting about the HDR update, it was just fucking bonkers to not have it pass through the unit.

yah...they could've release some sort of adapter like Microsoft did for the Kinect on the Xbox One S/X...

It's no dealbreaker for OG PSVR owners but still this does sting a little.

Blackout issue sounds more like a firmware update fix for the PU/console.
But I never really had those problem, maybe once or twice it happened.

This is guaranteed to piss off people that already have PSVR. Too soon, Sony.

The only annoying thing is the HDR pass through upgrade not being available to gen 1 owners, the rest are nice but not going to push me into trading up my launch unit.

This kind of mindset says you'd do well to not be an early adopter.

It’s cool

I don’t feel bad at all as first gen owner. Cable don’t matter I don’t see them with the headset on. And I found the hdr workout a long time ago. Nice for new people

My biggest grip is I don’t use it much

The Japanese blog post mentions the release date in Japan (Oct 14th) and improved Move controllers, which will be sold at a later date.
New Move controllers will have micro usb and will be "improved" in some ways, but there are no details yet.

Edit:
About the move part - the phrasing they used could mean that they're improving the features or it could mean that the change to micro USB is the improved feature. Hard to tell, will have to wait for more details.

Please please please include analog sticks on the moves this time

Yup.

Nice to see they are refining the design though. Nowhere near enough changes for me to upgrade. Happy with the headset as it is but if it was black with a finish similar to the ps4 pro I would have upgraded.

Quite like the updated design being able to affix the headphones to the headset when not i use.

I think it has been fixed with the beta update. I haven't had it since and it was a firmware update that originally started the problem.

Don't worry, I won't be an early adopter for Sony anymore.

Meh....If I had enough money to burn for new hardware I would rather spend it on Switch rather than VR. Switch at least has games I want to play while PSVR has 0 games for me.

Update or not, it's not like I'm going to use mine any more or less than I already do.

This. I'm fine the way it is now (barely even use it anyways because its fall gaming season). Only way I'll update is when it becomes PSVR2 and supports Sony's next gen console.
