Updated PSVR unit announced

This is great for me. Just set up the PS4 Pro to future proof my PS4 experience and now there’s a new VR headset with matching PU!

Still got the PS3 move controllers tho. 😞 Damn you Mini USB-B cable!

seems like a very small increment, id have thought they'd wait a bit longer and improve some more things

Yeah agree with this. Would've preferred new controllers.

The only good thing is it might mean the OG model is cheaper to pick up for non-HDR users.

It shouldn't have been hard to make a replacement for the original brakeout box for existing users, that's the most disappointing thing.

Also it will be a massive missed opportunity if the new moves didn't have sticks built in.

Don't worry, I won't be an early adopter anymore.

Fixed.

Early adopter on software/hardware it's exactly this... so maybe it does not suit you.

Examples:
- switch dock station that scratch the screen of the console... maybe there will be a revision to avoid that, so early adopter have to keep their "old" console
- new 3ds with improved performance
- psvita new version, no OLED but better battery and a minimum of memory already on the console
- xbox360 rrod consoles everywhere

It was always like this... that is what it means to be an early adopter, to consider problems.

PS
Nowadays the same is with software, how many games are better after months when they are also cheaper?

Changes aren't that big, also I know what I'm getting myself into when purchasing technology that will involve changes within the coming years.

Wonder why Sony felt the need to make the cable connections different. If it weren't for that, you could have swapped out processing units. Unless there are more hidden, but not noticeable hardware changes.

I much prefer the new headphone solution. Nice and tidy and less likely to get in the way (my headphone leads constanly catch on my shirt collars when turning my head in VR).

Bloody annoying the new breakout box won't work on older units (although I doubt Sony would have sold it for a decent price anyway).

I might upgrade if there's a decent trade-in deal...but this stuff should really have been there in the first iteration. I'd be pissed if I actually paid real money for my PSVR (got it for a fiver and doubled up a bunch of Tesco clubcard points).

What. Care to elaborate?

As I said it's only rumors, but it looks like Sony has been working on it:

Patent (doesn't mean much):
https://uploadvr.com/new-patent-suggests-sony-working-vive-like-tracking-psvr/

PS R&D looking for people to work on multiple sensors data:
https://uploadvr.com/playstation-rd-listing-suggests-multi-sensor-psvr-tracking-works/

Some developers talking about new peripherals:
http://www.playstationlifestyle.net...wn-vr-preview-e3-2017-rough-around-the-edges/

Some new PSVR games saying to support a "navigation controller" that doesn't exist. Yes, the PS3 one was called navigation controller, but it doesn't work for this games:
http://www.tomshardware.com/news/sony-psvr-navigation-controller-support,35482.html

The new tracking system is just a rumor for current PSVR, but I think we can be 100% sure it will be ready for PSVR2.

The new controllers (move with analog stick) are probably happening this gen.
I don't have any insider info though. None of my friends working in the industry deal with VR.

Didn't bundle a camera with every unit by default cause a handful of "their best customers" already had the $40 peripheral. #4thegamers

Updates $400+ peripheral less than 1 year later with major QOL and functionality improvements forcing "their very best customers" to repurchase said $400 peripheral. #Fuckthegamers.

Probably has an updated IMU and tweaked lights to fix the drift and wobble as well.

Seriously, why would anybody think this minor update is catered to people who already own a PSVR?
It's clearly not, since the minor improvements do not even nearly justify spending that amount of money again. There is NO indication of any tech upgrade besides HDR passthrough.

And if you plan on spending 400 dollars just so you don't have to switch HDMI cables from time to time... well, you do you.

Meh....If I had enough money to burn for new hardware I would rather spend it on Switch rather than VR. Switch at least has games I want to play while PSVR has 0 games for me.

i have probably more VR games than the Switch has games in general in it's entire library.

That's kinda shitty to replace launch units in less than a year. Christ.
Eh. Apple replaces phones every year. TV models get replaced every year. In fact, most consumer products get replaced with new revisions/updates every year.

And, what, they shouldn't make any improvements to PSVR just because people bought one already?

I can't believe people are getting upset about this. It in no way changes the specification or support of the PSVR you already bought.

I'm pleased to see Sony make improvements because it means PSVR isn't dead. I haven't jumped in yet though, but I'm itching to..

So? PC 100 times more games than PS4 but in PS4 has more game that I enjoy, same thing here. Sure PSVR technically has more games but Switch has more games looks more fun to actually play.

Sony thanks all early adopters for financing this improved version. Please buy it again for full price, we recommend a second job. Thank you.

For fucks sake. The fact that I can’t get a new processor box separately is bullshit. HDR passthrough should have been there day one.

Well no shit!!! In my original post I said PSVR has 0 games for me

What exactly is your agenda here? Why have you come in to a PSVR thread only to tell us you'd rather spend your money on a Switch, but added nothing of any worth to the actual thread topic itself?

it's like we are arguing about personal taste! :D

Isn't this gaming forum here for posting our opinion here!!? Or are you telling me I cant only post my opinion here unless it's positive!!?

Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch

its understandable though. If I am Sony, I will rather my early adopters who want to upgrade, to rebuy a brand new $399 headset rather than a breakout box that cost less than $100 too.

So that really was a weird oversight with the original product. They should have foreseen that and shipped it like this from the beginning. Keeping the headphones tidier like that is a godsend. I won’t get another VR headset until it massively improves image quality and weight etc, hopefully PSVR2 with the PS5!

That's not what he said.
This is a thread about a hardware update to PSVR. You come in and say you don't care much for PSVR anyway and would rather buy a switch. Hence why he said you added nothing to the discussion/topic at hand.

I can't wait to read your invaluable post in the Forza 7 thread where you state that you don't like racing games and would prefer to play Gravity Rush 2. You are really adding something special to the conversation.

Isn't updated version of PSVR is for people who haven't bought it yet!!? My point is PSVR hasn't released any games that would mak me buy it instead of buying Switch.

Using all 3 major headsets, the worst thing about PSVR sadly are the move controllers. Vive controllers feel like a whole new "motion" generation, Touch even more since they track 3 fingers and next Vive controllers will track all 5 fingers.
I hope the next PSVR iteration will be shipped with motion controllers that are modern and not use 10 year old technology.

Yes, it is for new customers.
But just imagine what these threads would look like if everyone with your opinion (rather buying a switch, rather buying an XBOX or whatever) made a comment like that.

Well then you must have a VERY limited appeal for games, as PSVR has most bases covered

Horror - Resident Evil 7
Shooter - Farpoint, Arizona Sunshine
Shooting Gallery - Dick Wilde
Driving - DRIVECLUB, Dirt Rally VR
Puzzle - Statik, Keep Talking, Wayward Skies
Platformer - PlayRoom VR Robot Rescue
Defense game - Tethered
Perv Sim - Summer Lesson
Space - Eve Valkyrie
Stadium Sport - RIGS

it will really depend on the cost of the tech...

the whole selling point of PSVR is that they are marketing it as a 'middle ground' VR approach...

it's not as budget tier as Mobile VR but not as expensive and out of reach as the PCVR.....it's exist right down in the middle of the bunch (in terms of experience, performance and cost).

For PSVR to adopt what Vice/Occulus motion controller's tech, those tech needs to have less cost of manufacturing first.

After being burnt by PS3 and seeing their approach on PS4, i don't think Sony is intererested in the extreme highend everything and the kitchen sink approach and am gladly sit at the 'mid-range' vendor.......since 'mid-range' is actually the most profitable in terms of margins and adoption rate.

Nintendo done more to make want Switch than Sony ever did with PSVR. Sony is already making updated version here but still hasn't show me why I should care for it. I honestly don't what else to tell you.

Are you even replying to the correct person?
It's absolutely fine if PSVR is not doing anything for you.

it's like you as a Windows user going on a Mac Forum and complain why Apple doesn't make it more enticing for you to use a Mac. (or vice versa)

you must have live a tired life.

Don't worry, I don't know what else to tell you either.
I tried.

As a PSVR owner I'm glad the changes are minimal QOL fixes. If this would've improved performance in any way I wouldda been pissed.

I have both, you're comparing virtual reality apples with hybrid oranges. I would recommend trying PSVR and learning a little about the available and upcoming games if you feel like it has 0 to offer.

Also, I have a PSVR bought on day one and don't feel like I need to buy this new version. The only big deal (breakout box that passes HDR) wasn't a problem for me in the first place.
