Kino's Journey: The Beautiful World - The Animated Series Episode 1

I am rather impressed given how much time has passed from the old series but it doesn't feel like it has missed a beat.

Its pretty interesting. A bit of a loftier concept than i imagined.
I wish the show would slow down and let events breath more. The first episode especially is breackneck trying to ram in as much stuff as possible.

Did I do the right decision by not watching the TV series and holding the 2 movies dear to my heart?

Watch 08 and forget about the rest.

...

<edge off> I dunno, it's not a show that i'd rec but I feel that if you go into it with the right mindset, that is, expecting a set of quirky but simplistic, episodic adventures with above average offerings of good animation and little more, there's a decent chance you'll be satisfied.

To quote Kuroda from the interview: "I also intended for ID-0 to be very dense in material, and while I'll defend the ending of episode one till the bitter end I still felt like I wrote enough to warrant an apology for its massive quantity."

That said, I think the subsequent episodes definitely start to slow down, at least comparatively.

I started reading Black Clover after watching the 1st episode last weekend. I'm up to chapter 56.

If they don't animate the chibi face commentary and reaction faces, I will riot.

This series has the worst tsundere, and I say that with love. She's so terrible at being tsun.

The series needs some good charmy gifs.

Net-juu no Susume Episode 1:

SO we have yet another MMO program starring a NEET protagonist but it should be noted that this is not an isakai program, the MMO is just an MMO, and the real twist here is Morioka Moriko is a 30 year old woman. I'll be honest, that adjustment is enough curiously for me to give this show a few episode to see if they actually do anything with the conceit. The first episode is mostly about establishing the in-game romance between her Hotguy avatar and a healer girl named Lily, current identity unknown.

Gosick English Dub Rewatch

so overall I feel like the dub was well done. in general I enjoyed my rewatch of the series, the major thing I forgot was how well the series actually wraps up.

I will have to keep that in mind the next time someone asks for a series that wraps pretty much everything up and has a clear ending.

Dies Irae Ep. 0
I am, completely and utterly, lost.

It's a weird way to open it, a rushed version of a sequence of scenes not shown until pretty far into the game. It feels like this whole thing will amount to fanservice for people that have read it and be a muddled mess for anyone new.

I hoped the show would be less boring, as the first episode didn't really manage to hold my interest. The world was destroyed in a war and there are hints which point to a darker background for the main characters, but instead of exploring those, the show seems to be just another CGDCT show, with a post-apocalyptic twist. Scavenging, surviving, using weapons, riding huge vehicles but also eating snow, loading around and doing dumb things. To be fair, it's just the first episode, but based on the scene with the ration, I don't believe that the show intends to be serious. Also, besides the glorious widefaces, the show looks kind of dull.

I thought Little Witch Academia TV was fine. Some people were really repulsed by it but I don't think it really warrants that kind of reaction, but I also understand why people would feel that way. I thought the character writing was absolutely abysmal...like in a way where the characters read better in the first 20 minute OVA. Diana in particular is a great example, she is still a vehicle for the best episodes but somehow they just totally screwed up the aspects of that character that gave her any aspect of depth or humanity. In the OVA she is skilled but still makes mistakes, getting in over her head as she tries to live up to the legacy of her family. Even her attitude carries a certain haughtiness to it, but ultimately she is apologetic and tries to right her wrongs. Sucy would be another example where she went from taking selfless actions at times in the OVA to just having this incomprehensible backstory or whatever in the TV series. She doesn't really want to be there, she is abrasive to a psychotic point and generally just comes across as completely unfriendly, but somehow she is supposed to be one of the primary supporting characters. And really that kind of stuff extends across the entire cast. They are so universally unlikable that it is kind of crazy. The bigger story stuff does not make any sense and has all these weird vestigial parts that you would think should have been cleaned up. But still...there's some cool set piece work and there are enough times where things click that I didn't mind watching the series.
This reads like a really conflicted review but...I can't help but agree with your general conclusion.

So let me get this straight, this Britannia Empire seemingly doesn't even rule over ... Britannia ?

Fairly impressed actually. The two setpieces looked really nice and the second one had a fun gimmick move to resolve the combat situation. It generally looks pretty nice, direction is good and characters all sport maniac smiles and sharingans are pretty no-nonsense, which is pretty refreshing. Not sure about comically aristocratic or evil siblings of the female mc or the arranged sibling (one of them adopted) marriage bit but none of the participants seem to be big on that and it already seems dead in the water so ...

I was about to scream out in high pitched voice "historical inaccuracy !" when they showed the Tuilerries but then they explained this alternative history goes back as far as Napoleon and stuff so that shut my mouth. +++ points for that. And for Guibert.

[GBF: Battlogue] - 3

I know this OVA was supposed to be light hearted, but the story itself seems dark as fuck. Unborn Gunpla cursing their non-existence? Gunpla, wearing the forms of humans, stuck in an endless cycle of violence? Seems pretty harsh.

Sounds like an odd choice to start things off. I only got as far as finishing the regular route in VN, but felt that had a serviceable enough opening/prologue to establish everything.

Maturity, bitches.
where's the giant robots

Well, they subbed those with girls, which I'm sure you can agree is the better choice.

Apart from that, it's the same. VR like interfaces for battle mode, summoning weapons via technology, attacking giant monsters that are a threat to human kind and people looking on from a control room with lots of monitors.

Yeah, in this world the British Empire won the American Revolution but lost against Napoleon, so the British nobility retreated to America which is now the Empire’s headquarters.

Oh that explains... well, at least the vague context of what I saw. Thanks. I was hoping an actual Episode 1 would go up to but it's not looking like it....
