Star Wars Battlefront II |BETA| Execute Pre-Order 66

No, this one feels less polished. In the 2015 for example, the menus are elegant and show all these different scene-scapes. Here, you get a black screen with "digitally" text overlay.

The menus are massively improved in this game than the 2015 game. Same layout, but it actually fits the Star Wars theme instead of a sterile visual design student portfolio from the first game.

Beta is pushing my 5 yr old GTX 680 to 80°, will upgrade when the Volta cards are released next year or so.

Besides that it ran pretty well.

I suck at flying

:(

God , the PS4 version looks like a PS3 game at 60 fps...

What a bad looking game... You literally see the grass and shadows pop 10 ft away from you...

Once again EA managed to make a star wars game...boring. the guns suck, heavy is the only class that feels good to play, the space dogfights are too slow and can't see shit half the time and the horde mode thing is too chaotic and fast not enough time to see what I am doing/plan my attack it's just mash mash to keep the time going :/

Still might rent this to try out the single player campaign

You call those menus sterile? Lololol. At least there was something to look at! And yeah, we get it. It's in space.

The only part of the UI that leaves a lot to be desired is the end-of-match screen, with those lame character poses and random smoke obscuring them. Otherwise, there is a heck of a lot more to look at in BF2 than the 2015 game; there's a ton of great animations (such as the Death Star-style animated icons on the choices, to wireframe renditions of ships, to stuff going about in the backgrounds) and atmosphere.

Why are there less modes in this game than in the previous one? Yes it has a campaign but surely there could of been at least one or two more than what we are getting?

Less modes is the way to go for games like this; too many modes fragments the playerbase, which was a serious problem for the 2015 game and continues to be a handicap to the playerbase on Battlefield.

More modes splits up the player base and makes matchmaking harder. I suspect they just outright dumped the modes that were not popular in Battlefront 2015.

Does anyone really miss throwaway stuff like Cargo and Droid Run?

I suspect that the Strike playlist will have a variety of gametypes that may fill in the niches.

Fair point. I'm disappointed there is no Supremacy or Walker Assault though , pretty underwhelmed with Galatic Assault from what I have played, true it's only one map in the beta but the structure of it seems to be a step back from those two modes.

Those were actually my two favorite small-match modes :(

I was thinking more of the likes of Supremacy and Walker Assault but still, you make a good point.

Galactic Assault will presumably have Walker Assault as a part of it. They just didn't want to put AT-AT walkers into the prequel map.

What about Supremacy? Closest thing to a conquest mode, never short on players and they take it away. Battlefront 2015 had its faults, many and I'm not putting it on some pedestal, given the hype I have read I was hoping to be a little more impressed with this sequel than I am currently.

Game is fun but progression and unlocks seem sketchy. What with the loot box warning that the final game may have different drop rates.

The aiming definitely has a weird feel to it. I'm not exactly sure how to place it, but coming from other shooters in the past year and more recently Destiny 2, it just doesn't even compare.
Yep, the controls are unnatural compared to the competition. Also sprinting in first person has a weird blur/delay to simulate acceleration. Feels odd like Killzone Shadowfall.

Does anyone here plays the JP beta? I'm trying to find whether it has English or not, to see if I need to import the US version of the game.

Isn't 80c fairly normal temps for a GPU?
No clue, even tho I've had this PC for 5 years I'm still a noob at life....so I can't give a definitive answer.

I usually try to keep games below 70°

I also played the Beta on PS4 Pro and it looked fine. I don't know if it being on a Pro had anything to do with it but it looked nothing like a PS3 game as a poster earlier had mentioned.

Yeah, fuck this. They've injected and double downed on elements of Battlefield or other traditional shooters into Battlefront II that it never needed (namely changes to the gunplay and movement, class structures, equipment distribution, etc), and kept parts of Battlefront which were exceedingly awful (bottleneck level design).

They've made a game that is different enough from Battlefront that I can respect people who prefer it, but yeah, I'm out. I can't believe how utterly uncompelling I'm finding this beta compared to Battlefront 1. Had full intention to pre-order, now wont be picking it up unless I can get it cheap. I just don't see myself putting time into it at all.

EDIT: I mean, on a more ranty side of things, I literally cannot fathom who the fuck is designing maps like Naboo and some of Battlefront 1's worst bottleneck capture points. They're awful.

Game is really blurry on PC. Put the post processing on low and it was still there. I'm good on this one, deleted after playing both the galactic assault and starfighter modes.

Flaws aside (Naboo map has some really questionable design), I am having so much freaking fun with this beta.

They absolutely NAILED the heroes this time. Darth Maul and Rey are so, so, so great to use. Had a Rey vs Maul fight which was fantastic, the quick little dodges make everything so much better for the melee heroes. I've been getting them pretty much every game, I think I'm gonna start using Han and Boba more to see how they do.

Burst fire mod for the unlockable Specialist DMR makes it 10/10. So good.

Loving the new gunplay feel. Feels like it rewards aiming and timing your shots more than Battlefront 1 did.

Played probably 6 or 7 rounds in a row on the Naboo map and then played a bunch more Starfighter Assault. So damn fun. Gonna be sad when the beta ends.

graphics are noticeably worse then the first game...graphics aren't bad but just a step down...textures in particular...gameplay also feels slower and controls are more sluggish...the only positives seem to be the addition of space battles and a single player campaign...not sure how well this is going to sell (especially on PC)

The core gameplay in this game is good but everything else is bland/boring overall. There' no real squad system and no cohesion between vehicles and ground troops. Galactic Assault map is too quiet/boring.

Man the first game felt so much better lol. Having a 3rd person mode is fucking terrible. It should be first person with optional 3rd person servers. I tried queuing with some friends but none of that worked correctly (PC). Couldn't see my friends online in teh game but I saw them online in origin. When we did finally all restart the game and got in a party we queued and half of us were split into a totally different game lol. This game feels like baby's first shooter. I'm seriously questioning even bothering with this even though I was really looking forward to it. Going to give the PS4 version a shot.

The loot boxes seem like the worst designed loot boxes ever. I was unlocking guns and major upgrades like a night vision thing. What in the flying fuck?

Played another few hours today and still enjoying it. Just hope that I don't get burnt out too quickly.

Changed Starfighter controller layout to southpaw and found it much easier.

Imo it's confusing trying to workout who's shooting you and from where. The indicator acts like a compass on drugs.

Loving the mod that overheats enemy weapons.

I wish there was more incentive for people to play the objectives rather then every match turning into tdm.

Any info on whether the daily credit limit is just for the beta?

Also, is crafting mods disabled? I wanted to craft mods for my weapon, and had enough crafting material, but the craft option was greyed out.

Earlier in this thread I said that landing shots/getting kills still feels great, and while my opinion on that hasn't changed, I'll have to echo what others are saying about the aiming feeling stiff, especially in comparison to the first game. Additionally, the pistol-style blasters the officers use don't feel very effective in combat, whereas those in the first game were just as deadly as the rifles.

The core gameplay in this game is good but everything else is bland/boring overall. There' no real squad system and no cohesion between vehicles and ground troops. Galactic Assault map is too quiet/boring.

The current squad system seems rather...unnecessary? Randomly assigning you squadmates on respawn, and then not having any way to find your temporary squadmates in-match just means most players are going to ignore the squad system (I know I do). I also miss having a partner like in the first game so I could spawn closer to the action. A partner system might not work in this game of course, but during the first phase of Theed Palace it can be annoying to spawn so far away from the Ion Distruptors, get killed along the way, and have to spawn very far away once again but maybe on a different side of the map.

Who the fuck thought that scanline distortion effect on EVERY SINGLE PIECE OF THE UI was a good idea?

It's straining the shit out of my eyes. This is awful.

It's bugged it the beta, but the temp squad you spawn in with shows as yellow instead of blue and you earn double battle points when near them. Still would have preferred the partner system from the last game but seems like a cool idea when it works right.

damn the lighting in this game is amazing. Look at all these fucking particles! Wow there is so much shit going on I don't know where to lo...ZZZzzzzzz.....

Ah, that makes more sense.

I am not a fan at all of the way modern DICE's shooters play. However, despite me not really liking their games, I could still get some enjoyment out of the well crafted spectacle and visuals.

Not even getting that with Battlefront II. The entire game is just sort of...meh. Even explosions don't have the same wow factor that I have come to expect.

Shooting is much improved from Battlefront1 and they clearly they brought more elements from Battlefied into it, which I like. But oh my god, FUCK lootbox progression.

Skipping this game.

I'm kind of surprised that they dropped Drop Zone and Supremacy.

i didn't like the first one and i fucking hate Star Wars franchise in general, should i bother trying the game or is it as bad as the first one ? i'm bored and i want to play anything

It's pretty fun, but like battlefront 1, I will probably have my fill off of just the beta. I remember the original battlefronts being snappy, quick and arcadey. This just feels like battlefield with a Star Wars twist.

I’m gonna say no. Your first sentence is basically a reason to stay far away from this. You’re coming in biased already and honestly the beta ain’t that hot.
