Eurogamer: Star Wars Battlefront 2 has a loot crate problem.

CS:GO went even further..fucking skins.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9RjDRLBWio&t=

Look at this video, the reaction to a fucking skin..that's how it all started. But yeah they have put mobile stuff in expensive games to hoard more money from people.

I feel like this comparison is unfair. CSGO loot drops are vastly superior to loot boxes in other games, primarily because they can be sold on the market. I have won a knife and it paid for a brand new game with change, just for playing the game in the first place.

I feel like marketable loot drops have no real place in this discussion for cosmetics. What Payday 2 did is another matter though. If a player can attain random stuff that has actual value, it can only be a good thing.

I remember seeing this in videos posted by press and youtubers after the game's reveal at E3 and many saying how it wasn't what it looked like. Well it is what it always looked like and people have the right to be upset. I'm and adult, one who is quite scrupulous with his money and know better than to put money into this kind of a system but I know their are many who are not. What is most distressing to me is how EA has appropriated the aesthetic and appeal of a social activity like a trading card game and used it to goad people into spending money to gain and advantage over those unable or unwilling to do so. I sincerely hope there is a strong backlash upon launch towards this system. Also god bless those writing these articles they are sorely needed seeing how many seem willing to defend this practice.

Lootboxpocalypse.

Can it get any worse, how about a yearly subscription to IPs on top. They'll even chuck in a few complimentary loot boxes per year.

Leave it to EA to ruin lootboxes for all the games that have done it right like PoE, hots and Overreach. I wonder if a big wig at Blizzard gets on the phone with an exec at EA and is like "Dude wtf are you doing?" We got a good thing goin' here and you are fucking it all up!"

Not that I expect it to help, but I'll sign it. The drop rates being known is the main thing I'd like for transparency for everyone handing over money. No point in beating around the bush trying to say people are happy paying for the salvage fodder or bullshit drops. People try to pay for the legendaries.

While sometimes there are exaggerations and people are quick to be angered when it comes to lootboxes, generally speaking I'm for one not going to pay 60 dollars for a game which resorts to this shitty f2p game mechanic.

Shame, because the game seems genuinely interesting to me.

Glad there's a thread about this. 150 per match = 6.5 matches for 1 box, and there's direct gameplay enhancing stuff in there. Not good.
For me 6 or 7 matches might be all I play in a day. If this is true, that just sounds like a painful slog toward unlocks. I don't work all day and come home to work all night on a video game. I hope this isn't that bad, because I was genuinely excited for this game. Loot boxes are getting on my nerves. Games are becoming "pay extra to have fun, or grind forever". Oh well, bummer...

Not a UK resident but I hope this gets debated. It's gambling, plain and simple. I feel like publishers would be less compelled to add these terrible systems if they had to make it rated M due to gambling mechanics.

100% damage reduction and weapons behind lootboxes, hahahahahaha

"It's just star cards, it's not really a competitive game, who caaaares"

And since the loot crates make up the entirety of the game's unlocks and progression there is nothing optional about this. Its 100% a reinvention of a primary game system to pressure players into buying lootcrates and to give those who do pay a real sense of advantage in combat.

I really enjoyed my time with the beta but if this is as bad as it sounds then this game is a hard pass.

What game were you playing? lol.

You earn about 150 crates per match depending on length, I never seen one higher than 180.

1000 is the cheapest crate.

I played four Galactic Assault games (won 2, loss 2) and amassed over 2000 points. I did go up a level, so unsure if that makes any difference.

you cant really use the beta as an indicator for how much loot you will get..

I know. Just going off my time with it

Signed. At 10,000 the government has to respond to it, it's worth doing even if it only gets that far. 6k signatures so far.

1. You get a lot of crap, aka "look at this very low lvl card that you already have"
2. Seems that Hero cards are really rare, I got like one, and they are character specific, so you'll need to grind a LOT to even have Heroes with decent abilities, which in turn means those who pay will have the upperhand inevitably
3. Weapons mods also works with scraps, forcing you to choose either spent it on cards or weapons.
4. The difference between a low level card and a the best one, is....considerable to say at least.

I hate how Multiplayer FPS shooters became and incresingly slouch grind.

A 100% damage reduction while jet packing ? Wtf ?!!

That explains a couple of things in some of the matches I had.

I didn't think this would be a problem, but *sigh*. I cancelled my preorder, this sounds terrible.

Why are companies seeming to miss the entire point of why overwatch's sytem has been put up with for so long? Make your lootboxes filled with cosmetics, and they can largely be explained away as 'optional'. Even opinions on that seem to be changing a little too though. This is just egregious.

You got bonuses from challenges. Challenges that you'll quickly exhaust.

Going up a level doesn't make a different at all.

I hate this phrasing because it seems specifically designed to give overwatch a pass when the problem isnt that these crates change gameplay, it's that loot crates are gambling. They are spwcifically and insidiously designed to gouge you for more money. The box you get for logging in or leveling up isn't to keep things fair, it's to keep their hooks in you. It's the same thing a casini does when they give you a meal ticket or upgrade your hotel suite, it keeps you locked in their ecosystem. Never forget overwatch charged you sixty bucks and then gives you a box once every 6 matches or so.

You can easily get about 5 boxes a day not playing much at all. They have their weekly arcade reset which gives you 3. And 21000 xp isn’t hard to hit at all.

Signed - it needs to be questioned whether the law needs to be changed or the implication of self-regulation by the industry (PEGI etc).

No they realize the point of overwatch loot crates , that people will spend a lot of money on them.

Games that give scored reviews should add MTs / loot crates as one of part for determining the score. They add/detract so much from the "experience" that they should have a section all to themselves now.

This game has to have one of the worst forms of lootcrates I have ever seen. The progression being literally random is such a bizarre design decision.

So Euroganer have highlighted this several times now.

Can I suggest it’s time for them to make a point and have this influence their review rating for the final game.

Disgusting. Not surprised the defense force for loot crates that's been making the rounds from thread to thread over the various games isn't showing up here.

Yeah. I've noticed that happening in a number of threads recently. I put it down to people not wanting to hear any criticisms of their most anticipated games, but when I see people actually defending these lootbox systems I feel kind of sorry for them. They're being ripped off and they don't even know it.

What's with the out of bounds changing during strike

What gives?
Playing area should be a lot larger.

Although I don't put much faith in these petitions, I've signed all the same.

Total Biscuit is 100% correct in his assessment of how, while not presently legally defined as gambling, these lootbox systems have all the defining characteristics of gambling and, in some cases, are explicitly marketed towards children. His explanation with regards to how they differ from blind boxes is important too, given that I've seen a lot of comparisons to physical card games being thrown around.

Ultimately, I just don't get how people can be fucked with all this in their games. Maybe I'm just too old for this shit now, and still have fond memories of when skins, game modes and upgrades were just regular in-game unlockables, but I'm certainly not up for spending £40 - £50 on a product that then constantly prompts me to keep opening my wallet in order to gain access to content that should have been included in the first place, especially if these games are now giving the people who do open their wallets a real gameplay advantage in competitive settings.

Thank fuck for the indie market. Not that this issue is tied solely to "AAA" titles, but it sure seems to be more prevalent in that space.

Signed it too. It’s such a shame because I was looking forward to BF2, but now it’s a solid pass.
