Yep I'm canceling my preorder today, way too unbalanced to play with that shit.

Too many people creating unbalanced and unbeatable characters to play with

I hope this game bombs disastrously. I hope every game with loot boxes does at this point. Enough is enough. Stop it.

Loot boxes aren't inherently bad, it's when they affect gameplay (especially multiplayer) that it becomes a massive issue imo. If they were selling cool skins I'd have no issue.

Was ready to blindly preorder but I'm out.

Fuck this trend, publishers just don't seem to give a fuck about the long term effects of gambling psychology.

I have zero problem paying for dlc knowing what I'll get but this random loot crate craze is concerning to say the least.

Here's hoping loot crates go the way of the online pass. (I doubt they will, they're just too lucrative unfortunately)

I think at the rate the current and future wave of games seem to be incorporating these elements into their games I think even the joe shmoe public is going to take notice and something will be done about it. Probably ESRB rating updates (18+ for all these gambling type loot box games)

I don't get what's so hard about making cosmetic loot crates.
The Star Wars universe is pretty varied and at this point would've be much of a stretch to have storm troopers with different stripes and such on them.

Morrigan Stark

Arrogant Smirk
I'm one of them. At the moment, I'm in the "if you don't like it, don't buy it" camp.

I don't see any real "content" locked behind these crates. Just a load of boosts that the competitive players want to get their hands on.

If this was a single player game with loot crates for sale people with a problem would just ignore them. Heck, I even manage to ignore spending money on F2P/P2W iOS games and still have fun.
Defense force for everything. SMH

...What the fuck is that

At the very least the ESRB (or something similar) should include this kind of premium gambling in their ratings.
Yeah, I can't see this shit becoming illegal because, well, capitalism, but an ESRB warning or something like that could at least help.

Was ready to blindly preorder but I'm out.
Why the fuck would you "blindly preorder" a game like that to begin with? I mean good for you for changing your mind but come on...

Fuck this shit. They had the galls to make this Pay to Win, while being a fucking $60 game.

$60

For the privilege of giving them more money at every turn.

Fuck this and fuck everyone who supports this kind of abuse.

Man it's sad that nothing can be done about it. I'll vote with my wallet but this is still going to sell a lot and make lots of money from MT's

I was surprised these past few weeks at work when pretty much one out of every 3 people that came to buy FIFA also got at least $20 of PSN/XBL credit to buy packs...some of them much more. This kid that works with me got the Ronaldo edition for like $90 and then $100 PSN credit to buy packs..... That's almost $200 on just FIFA and with more than half of the money spent directly on what are basically loot boxes.

Never seen that video before. Both the guys and girls reaction (at 4:05) to this stuff is very, very crazy to see. You'd think they just won a real money lottery.

To be fair they all seem to be youtubers or streamers. Doing fake overreactions to everything seems to be the norm for a lot of them.

Still sad though as I'm sure a lot of kids watch them and are influenced by them. Seeing their favorite streamers go crazy over a skin will in turn make these skins very valuable to them and push them towards microtransactions.

I've been watching interviews with some of the 3D artists on this game during the ZBrush summit, they're all so super talented, dedicated and obsessed with attention to detail in their art. Must be heartbreaking for the artists to see their work contaminated and sullied with loot crates and a broken progression system, it just seems to go directly against the spirit behind the creativity.

I just cancelled my order for this as well. Watching Angry Joe's breakdown of it convinced me that this is definitely not a system that deserves my support.

I think it boils down to them trying to continue to push further and further to what they can get away with. They clearly are out to milk every dollar they can and they only know what they can get away with by trying. If people poor out money and lap it up, that tells them to push even further. Sadly I don't know when the barrier will be hit, if ever.

Possibly, but I don't know, those reactions all seemed pretty genuine to me. Sure they can be embellished but yeah it's pretty nuts either way.

DICE has said why, it's either this or season pass. Now all the dlc is free.

I honestly prefer having free maps

I'd rather have a season pass. While the player base is split, it's not going to matter how conjoined the player base is if people are walking around making it unfun with unfair advantages.

DICE said it's either microtransactions or season pass.

They didn't say it's either a season pass or locking the entire progression system behind loot boxes and P2W microtransactions .

Not to defend other games with MT's and loot crates but there are plenty of successful examples out there on how to at least make loot boxes better than this.

If this game is a success you'll get your Season Pass in the next game. Along with the same loot boxes of this one.

Outside of the skin gambling stuff, getting a rare drop from a CSGO crate can be the equivalent of winning the lottery. Just look at how much these gloves have sold for within the past week. Hundreds of dollars! With others requesting to buy at similar prices.

Of course, getting a skin that valuable from a crate drop is ridiculously rare (and crates cost a few bucks to open), meaning you'd have to waste a ton of money in the hopes of getting an item that has you coming out in the black. And the money you made from selling that expensive item can only go to your Steam wallet, but on the off chance you do get an item worth hundreds of dollars, at least it can pay for a bunch of your future Steam purchases?

No, I think they're inherently bad. They're bad when it's "only cosmetics" too. They're only used so frequently now because publishers know they're an accepted tool to gate content access/progression, exploit whales, and exploit fans.

Holy shit, how many fucking games have lootcrates this season?!

Forza, LotR, AssCreed, Battlefront, Destiny... At this point there's no way CoD wouldn't have lootcrates.

Gamers need to shut this shit down right now.

What would interest me is seeimg the following:

1) Amount of DLC from a season pass
2) Amount of DLC with loot box funded
3) playerbase of season pass content
4) Playerbase with free maps but lootbox funded

It would be really interesting to see it laid out which model benefits end consumers more (eg if we get more DLC with a season pass or not) and what effect it has on a games player base over the course of the life cycle of the game.

A loot box isn’t, an RNG loot box is the fucking devil incarnate z

I don't defend how the loot boxes are being done in this game, I'm saying that even with that I prefer free maps. The loot boxes can always be tweaked, a season pass cannot.

Yes I'm fine with trading the monetization form map dlc to something else, but creating an unbalanced mess is ridiculous.

Try again Dice/EA

Yeah I recently sold a Twitch Prime crate for PUBG and took in just over $100 for my Steam wallet and while I'll never personally buy into this crate system, I'll use it to my advantage whenever I can. Some of the stuff I see now in the game (skirts, uniform sets) are going for really ridiculous prices.

I’d rather a season pass. Loot boxes can get bent, I hate them, they are destroying my interest in games that are AAA.

They do can get bent, and in this beta they are, I'm not saying that they aren't bad.

But in the long road, I'll rather have an united community with 20+ maps in where I can have fun, and not expending anything on loot boxes (which I wont), than launching a game with 8 maps and forcing me to pay 30-40€ to not die of boredom.

Again, I hate both practices, but I'll rather have the one that it's not going to (potentially) destroy my fun of the game (although, yeah, they can get worse and unbalance the game even further).

The loot box scenario has the obvious effect of not fragmenting the playerbase the way paid DLC expansions would.

The DLC/Season pass route on the other hand doesn't have customers paying for content they may not use in the future due to discontinuing play to enhance the game now.

Regarding overall consumer benefit though, why should we be limited to those options? Continued monetization of games designed to push that monetization over their life cycle only to be ended by obsolescence leading into a sequel that repeats the cycle isn't consumer friendly to begin with.

https://www.reddit.com/r/StarWarsBa...spoiler_the_kamino_leak_that_a_lot_of_people/

The youtubers are judging the betas skewed progression system as the full game. They haven’t seen the kamino build leak where there are challenges that act as hutt bounties, individual crates for each class that eliminates the problem with not being able to focus on one class and many more tweaks. They started this massive circle jerk that will never go away even after launch. They started it without having all the details and I hate the state of this misinformed sub. I’m going post by post trying to spread this news. Wish me luck!

Sadly this pic of the latest respawn screen is my only proof to what I saw, I have the dark side hero spawn as well just give me a sec. There was a video of the crate system and I’ll break it down since it got removed. anyone who saw it as well, please vouch for me.

So to start off, there were more than 3 types of crates in the full game leak

StarFighter- random starfighter cards

Trooper- random trooper card, emote or weapon/part or mvp pose

Allegiance - random hero or trooper card, emote , weapon/weapon part

Assault - only assault cards, weapons mvp pose and parts

Heavy- only heavy cards, weapons mvp pose and parts

Officer- only officer cards, weapons mvp pose and parts

Specialist- only specialist cards, weapons mvp pose and parts.

These are the crates we are getting come launch. This gives us more choice as to what we want to focus on and level up.

There will also be a lot more challenges than what we saw in the beta. These challenges have more crates as rewards but will be more streamlined and guranteed like the “Starter crates” we saw from the beta. They will have basically everything from weapons, cards and weapon parts, to emotes, skins, and extra credits/scrap. There are still P2W elements in this game regardless of this news, but as you can see it’s not game breaking Pay to win, it’s just *“Pay to Win faster”.*

Edit:[here’s more proof to what I saw, here’s the dark side heroes.](https://imgur.com/a/2Peqs) I wish I screenshotted the actual crate screen so I wouldn’t have to seem shady but this is what I have and I hope you believe me. If not wait till launch and see if I was right or not, regardless we shouldn’t resort to anarchy and bullying of those who don’t agree with others. I’m just here to provide information that is being overlooked

EDIT2: https://www.reddit.com/r/StarWarsBa...s_promised_cellphone/?st=J8KJWZ12&sh=4b95844f found the actual leak, thanks everyone who let me know that it’s still up on YouTube

Progression only via crates really sucks, but at least later builds aren't as bad as the beta is with it.

Then why release a beta in such a shit state? If this isn’t representative of the final game don’t do a damn beta.

why is everything loot box versus season pass with maps...

there are more options for making money.

Excactly. People are wasting their breath vouching for one or the other, when we can and should denounce both. It's up on the publishers to find a pricing model that's fair and consumer friendly. We get to decide when we feel that the price of admission is fair.

Fuck Dice with their "season passes or MT" mentality. I choose option 3: neither.

Wasn't really interested in this game to begin with so I don't have a dog in this fight on top of playing loot box games making this hypocritical but:

"Less bad" is considered defensible and worthy of the benefit of the doubt in regard to loot boxes now. That doesn't seem like a good thing.

They presented plays the demo as is and now they gonna cry about how it's being judged unfairly? Lol I'm sure someone will throw a "it was a beta!" my way.
Yeah, it was really stupid of them to use this build as the public beta. Really stupid. But, yes, it was just a beta. I don't like the progression via lootcrates only, but it looks like the beta was a fairly old build that isnt representative of the solution they'll have in place for launch.

Again, really stupid of them to use this build.
