I used a VPN and it started to unpack, but after it was done It still said it was not released yet and couldn't launch it. I guess I'll uninstall then reinstall and repeat the process..

Maybe you've turned off VPN right after it finished unpacking?

The somewhat mixed reviews combined with the complete lack of PRO support (which is extremely disappointing to me, and which is something I don't want to support Devs just skipping like this) have convinced me to wait for a sale on this one. However, with that said, I really do hope it does well. I don't want this series or this style of game go away.

Same boat as you.

Listening to the ACG review, (took a quick ten second peek when he mentions the graphics). It's odd that some in this thread have said that the graphics seem to be a big improvement (aside from the occasional close up texture), but ACG doesn't agree. He's saying it suffers similarly to how most open world games suffer compared to more linear/smaller map experiences in regards to graphics. Saying it's not bad, but you'll sometimes question if the previous game didn't typically look better.

I wonder if the people saying the graphics are better are actually talking about the graphics, or simply the aesthetics and overall feel of the more open spaces.

Maybe he just has a different opinion.

Not wanting to support a game because of "mixed" reviews (currently at 80 Metacritic), but also hoping this game gets support because they don't want the genre to die, is probably the most perfect GAF post I've ever seen. This post is GAF.

So, for those that are playing it, how scary is this game? From both a psychological scare and a jump scare perspective.

God bless CDkeys. No buyer's remorse. I'm going to bust out the VPN and spook it up tonight.

I wonder if the people saying the graphics are better are actually talking about the graphics, or simply the aesthetics and overall feel of the more open spaces. When I previously mentioned a lack of survival horror games this gen, and only thought of two (when I guess there had been three), I forgot about yet another game that I absolutely loved. Athough I never considered the Wii U to be part of the current gen anyway like a lot of people.

Some of what I saw in the clips reminded me a whole lot of ZombiU. That was the best SV or action/horror experience I've had since the first two Dead Space games.

edit: Dammit. I'm still hyped to play this (my expectations were tempered anyway), but according to this review, TEW2 suffers a similar lack of direction and feeling like a mix of other games (that doesn't always mesh together very well) as the previous.

The graphics are technically better (engine upgrade, IQ upgrade, performance upgrade) but the art direction and set design is far far worse -- depending on context, the latter can be included in "graphics" discussion. See: Killzone 2.

Loved the first, will prolly pick this one up as a Halloween game to add to my horror games in this lovely month.

Wow, OLED fucking shines with this game. Unfortunately I don't think I'm really reaching 60fps even with medium-low settings at 1440p. Oh well, I'll drop it to 1080p if it gets too bad I guess.

Anyway, brother/flatmate conveniently had something to do tonight so here I am, sitting alone in a completely dark apartment, half a meter from my TV, headphones on and at high volume. I'm not gonna sleep tonight.

So you have the option to run 1440p on an OLED TV? What's your graphics card?

I always feel ACG is talking out of his ass.

A colorful brusque delivery isn't for everyone. I don't always agree with everything he says, but his reviews never sound dishonest.

Well, sure, I just chose monitor 2 (i.e the tv) from the graphics settings and as long as I play on full screen, any resolution is fine. 1440p I just happened to pick at random. Doesn't look nearly as good as native 4k obviously, but I'll take what I can.

I have a GTX970.

do the boxes still say it or is it assumed? i saw someone post on reddit and no enhanced label similar to prey

I believe Prey was listed as PS4 Pro enhanced as well on website, but we had to wait for the patch. There's nothing on the box so I would go with it being the same situation as Prey.

It regens way slower though, right?

Only because you have so much of it, it starts regenerating instantly when you stop running.

Timed it, you get 12 seconds of sprint and it takes 5 seconds to fully recharge, this is on nightmare. Lmao.

Haven't gotten a key from cdkeys.com for this game yet hm. I pre-ordered there last Aug. I'm worried. Should be emailed with a key today, right?

I never thought the amount of stamina was the problem, it was the stopping to catch breath if it ran out

That was only a problem if you weren't paying attention to your meter, I honestly only had that happen to me twice over 100 hours.

Original game started you with like 3 seconds of sprint, you start with 12 here. Also running out of stamina (which seems like it'd be impossible) means like nothing since you still move at a decent pace.

Can't say I mind being able to sprint more. I kind of thought it was just goddamn dumb how little you could sprint in the beginning of the original before you'd have to catch your breath.

It was certainly unrealistic, but it added another layer of “resource management” tension to the combat and made you carefully consider your movement and positioning. With increased sprint and no matches it sounds like the combat in this game might not have quite as many tactical considerations.

I also said I don't want to support any game that releases without PRO support. This is a major AAA game launching a year after PRO's release without any PRO support. Sorry, but that's ridiculous, and I won't support it.

Lol. Can you also upgrade it? Sounds like a overkill for sure.

Seeing how people are struggling to keep 60fps on more powerful rigs at 1080p on even something like GTX 980 and 1080, I worry for the console versions.

What ever customization Tango does with ID5 engine just tanks performance so much in TEW1, while someone like Machinegun Games used it for Wolfenstien The New Order; the performance was literally almost 3x times as good on average at 60fps at a higher resolution using dynamic 1080p scaling on consoles and it still looked better.

It's not going to be noticeable at six feet from a 55 inch. Not without side by side comparisons anyway. Every time I've ever done native 4K at my regular viewing distance, the differences were totally negligible compared to the performance hit and not being able to reach a stable 60fps.

I have a GTX970.

Good to know. I'm using a GTX 1080, and was mainly concerned with there being a 1440p option at all. Plus, it actually being able to use HDR at that resolution as well.

That was only a problem if you weren't paying attention to your meter, I honestly only had that happen to me twice over 100 hours.

You also didn't have really large expanses to sprint through in the previous game either aside from a few select areas, so apples to apples maybe? If this isn't even happening in the physical world anyway, not sure why real world rules should always apply. Sebastian started out with a really bad case of smoker's lung anyway in the previous.

That's hard to believe. The first game chugged when having certain graphical options on high/ultra where the actual differences on screen weren't even really noticeable and it was completely smooth with a GTX 780 with them off. Either it's a similar scenario here, or the game really is an unoptimized mess, which doesn't make a whole lot of sense since they have more experience with the engine developing this game than they did the previous.

edit: It very well might just end up being an 8GB ram vs 16GB issue. I ended up buying an extra 8GB when Human Revolution was released, so I'm covered for that at least.
