Again, wrong. Forza and the Xbox would've seen massive growths in Europe if that happened.

What do you mean again wrong? I wasn't wrong in the first place with Yamauchi comments and if you want to see the Forza growth check the Horizon numbers in the UK.

EDIT: Sorry for the double post

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
This would be the case if there was a big decline between GT4 and GT5. But instead of a decline we had this

GT4 - 11.760.000
GT5 - 11.950.000

It's no coincidence that the decline exists only with GT6 and the game launching so late on PS3 is the main and probably only reason for that. PS4 may have sold next to nothing at that point but this was almost case with GT3 too. Game launched 8 months after PS2 launched in US/EU and it was selling along with the console. GT6 should at least be a cross gen game and the decision of keeping it a PS3 only game at that point made no sense at all.
Wouldnt it make more sense to compare the first game of each gen with each other ? GT3 vs. GT5 and GT4 vs. GT6 make more sense. The decline is noticeable.

GT5 was the first "HD" GT on a console that didnt have a GT title before. When GT4 hit PS2 everyone and their mom already owned GT3 and it had much less time to sell than GT5.

I just dont think there is an easy solution for GT getting back to those GT 3-5 sales - the market has changed. We will see how GT Sports does and after that we will be much smarter. I still think they can reach casuals in Europe with the IP...but for JPN and the US it might be more limited to real racing fans.

The first quote is the CEO of SCEE in 2015 up against more recent quotes from Yamauchi himself.

Also, even if we go down the Sport isn't GT7, it's supposed to to be the "next generation of GT" so treating it like a spinoff makes little sense. If sales suffer because of this direction, all it tells us is that PD screwed up.

Sport is as mainline as it goes. Even if a hypothetical GT7 comes comes out a few years later (for PS4 or PS5?) sales won't suddenly explode.

Gran Turismo went from being one of the biggest 2016 exclusives to it being fine if it underperforms because it doesnt have a number in the title.

I don't know anything about GT (despite owning and playing A-Spec), but if Sport was in development for 4 years...is there a reason they just didn't make "7"??

that's a long time...

Wait, who said that?
GT lost its crown as a big exclusive a long time ago, both ww and in japan. Would probably have helped if the franchise had been managed in a better way (not even like Forza)...

Yeah, I don't see how this isn't a main title. When are people expecting GT7 on PS4? 6 months after the PS5 releases?

GT is still big worldwide. Especially in Europe.

Usually a comparison is between the last titles and not with the first game of each gen. But even if that was the case. GT3 sold 3 million more than GT5 so i don't think the decline is big. Also before GT5 there was GT5 Prologue which sold 5.350.000. That's actually more than what GT6 sold so that alone should tell us much.

It seems like PD wanted to take the franchise is a new direction this generation with new numbering and everything. Based on other quotes it seems like they regret that decision though.

GTS is called GTS and not GT7 as its fundamentally different. GT1-6 followed a similar structure of car collection, while GTS still plans to have a large collection of cars, the focus here is on racing with others no matter your skill level.

Week 42, 2017 (Oct 16 - Oct 22)

YSO predictions

01. [PS4] Gran Turismo Sport < 200k (average 185k)
02. [PS4] Itadaki Street: Dragon Quest & Final Fantasy 30th Anniversary < 50k (average 40k)
03. [PS4] Kyoei Toshi < 50k (average 40k)
04. [PS4] The Evil Within 2 < 45k (average 35k)

big range of predictions for everything below GT.

Decent debut for GTS. Should end up near 400k, perhaps more if it has legs. Reception has been good so hopefully it does have good legs.

Little hours..?
That game was announced back in January. Nine months ago. We got details, but it adds nothing more to the switch third party support situation.

I am trolling... While people discussing about which last gen first party game should be brought over to the leading console in the market are acting normally for a MC thread...

OK.

The sooner era people will understand how critical the situation is, the better.
I really hope at Nintendo they aren't as happy and reassured about the Switch future market situation as some user here

And this, little hours after Famitsu president confirmed the issues I am underlining since last Spring

Why would Nintendo be satisfied? They are missing a ton of third party Japanese support, a decent amount even XB1 is getting but is absent on SW. Its clear SW isn't the third party haven some thought it would be and now Nintendo has to work on that by trying to get these kinds of games.

Wouldnt it make more sense to compare the first game of each gen with each other ? GT3 vs. GT5 and GT4 vs. GT6 make more sense. The decline is noticeable.

People said the same thing about GT5. The market has changed, sim racers aren't mainstream anymore and yet GT5 has near 3.5 million for US alone, 7.4 million for EU. Now I don't expect GTS to sell like GT5 simply due it being fundamentally different but in the end it will still have sales numbers high enough than the rest of the genre.

Well racing games are nearly always bigger in Europe, but which proof do we have that GT is "still big worldwide" exactly?
GT6, despite its release timing should have still sold better if that was the case. To me, GT is closer to how people transitioned away from PES. Sure there's still a reputation and good memories, but if you look at sales or ask if people will get it...

Yeah, I don't see how this isn't a main title. When are people expecting GT7 on PS4? 6 months after the PS5 releases?

I don't expect it on PS4 at this point. Seems like they got a new engine, and PS5 will likely keep a similar architecture, so I wouldn't be surprised if they were preparing a Y1/2 release...

Yeah...i mean there isnt much to say on this topic - lets just see how well GT Sports does and then we know probably more of what to expect from the franchise nowadays.

I dont think anyone is doubting that...it could sell half of GT6 and still could be the best selling racer in this genre this gen.

Its been 7 years since GT5 - we will see how the market has changed, at the end of the day PD didnt have that much competition with GT5 since then MS has released a bunch of Forza titles and GT isnt the defacto series anymore if you are into sim racers.

It will be interesting to see how it does....as said i expect okayish sales in JPN, good sales in the US and very good sales in europe.

GT Sports doing close to what GT6 did would surprise me. I was thinking closer to 100k opening for GT Sports. Hopefully YSO is more correct however.

big range of predictions for everything below GT.

The Evil Within had 125k sales total for the FW when adding up PS3/PS4/360/XB1. (Famitsu)

FW for PS4 version was ~54k.

35k for EW2 sounds about right (or it might even be worse). There is an XB1 version as well but I'm not expecting amazing numbers there.

A hampered GT6 still sold near 6 million and GT5 continued to sell in 2013+. Saying its not a big exclusive is just wrong.

Ok, let's say it's a big exclusive. How well do you think this spinoff is gonna sell exactly?
When the racing genre kept getting smaller over the years, when people have plenty of other "sims" to choose and when its sales numbers keep declining.
Most first party AAAs are evergreen btw, not sure how it is supposed to be impressive that GT5 still sold copies when all its close competitors sell years later as well...

Really? You example of growth is Forza Horizon? You could combine all Forza Horizon games and it wouldn't touch a single mainline Gran Turismo. As of February FH3 was at 2.5m sold, being the highest selling racing game of this generation. The lowest mainline Gran Turismo had 5 million sales.

Forza never managed to touch any mainline GT sales, we'll see if this will change with GTS.

And yes, you were wrong about the Yamauchi comments.

FH1 - 1M
FH2 - 1.5M
FH3 - 3M (at least) and still selling

These are guestimates of course, but I am absolutely not convinced that all FHs combined "wouldn't touch a single mainline Gran Turismo".

Kids and teens often don't have CC's.
Adults often don't either here. I have one but use it pretty sparingly, I like most people pay with cash at a convenience store, or direct bank transfer (for things like rent). They are becoming more popular though.

It was one of the most jarring things I experienced when I first moved to Japan. When the 7-11 told me that they didn't take credit cards, I looked at the cashier funny because I thought she was joking. It got a little better a couple of years ago once some banks starting issuing debit cards.

The other thing that's crazy about Japan is that some ATMs close and have regular hours. I must have run around Enoshima for over an hour looking for a way to get cash after 8pm on a Saturday. So many closed ATMs....

Interesting.

Are these cards a big part of total digital sales?

Or are we just running into generally low digital rates (wrt other places) and within those, credit cards are most often used?

Just trying to grasp this phenomenon.

I mean digital does have clear advantages with load times and always being on the system, it is just I'd (personally) like to take something physical away if I'm going out to buy it.

People said the same thing about GT5. The market has changed, sim racers aren't mainstream anymore and yet GT5 has near 3.5 million for US alone, 7.4 million for EU. Now I don't expect GTS to sell like GT5 simply due it being fundamentally different but in the end it will still have sales numbers high enough than the rest of the genre.

which doesn't mean anything. Bad number is bad number. Other bad numbers won't make it good.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Lol. He died for the comparison lol.^_^

I cant remember the last Wii number which is why i am interested. I do feel that the number is quite low?

[WII] Itadaki Street Wii <TBL> (Square Enix) {2011.12.01} (¥6.090) - 27.640 / NEW

Well, my memories fail me lol. That mean this PS4 release number is damn good lol.

You also have the Vita version which will probably put it in the 50k+.

It was one of the most jarring things I experienced when I first moved to Japan. When the 7-11 told me that they didn't take credit cards, I looked at the cashier funny because I thought she was joking. It got a little better a couple of years ago once some banks starting issuing debit cards.

If you look past your western habit it's honestly a good pratice in the grand scheme of things (I did for a lot of reasons)
Getting rid of cash isn't something that benefit card users but mostly your bank.

Heh, maybe people have given up, or they didn't advertise so folks didn't know to show up. I thought they weren't doing that anymore.
If it works like the Bic lotteries, number of people in line means nothing. Registration for a number is open for 1-2 hours and you come back later that day to see if you won. So everyone who gets a number is not in line at any one point.
