Got Switch? get a portable Switch Dock.

Now let me say I wasn’t a believer of this right away, but after getting a second Switch I realized my first Switch Dock was bent to shit (probably from taking it to Japan). Even though I had packed it with stuff inside and carefully, that cheap plastic warped all the same. So I ordered this replacement housing, took the bent dock apart and voila! Pocket dock.

Best decision ever. Now whenever I roll up somewhere I can just plug in the HDMI and be good to go. It really takes the portability of the Switch to the next level, and you won’t be caught bending/looking dorky carrying around the unnecessarily huge normal dock.

There’s also dongles that do the same thing that I haven’t tried but I’m sure work great.

What say you? Have you tried the glory that is true portability?

Got any brand recommendations? I want to purchase one but I've heard that some third party ones can damage the charging port

That looks nice. Much nicer than the official one anyway which is a bit of an eyesore, I hide it behind my TV.

Got a link? I know there's a Nyko dock coming out soon.. I think.

The Nyko dock is released, but back ordered on Amazon. You can buy from Nyko’s site directly too.

However, some people have claimed the Nyko dock shorted their charging port. Nyko claims it’s not a widespread issue and that IF there are any problems they will replace systems.

I got the likely JYS-branded one coming in soon but am not sure about using it due to the issues that the Nyko one has.

Same for the JYS USB controller. It looks awesome, but are USB controllers always safe to use? I would hope since it's not a power source it can't damage the hardware can it?

I don’t know I find the original dock is alright especially that its holds the Switch from both sides too. What is going to hold the Switch in the smaller dock apart from the dock plug?

I like the original dock. The taller walls help aligning the switch when I dock it at night and it gives a perceived console presence rather than just a handheld connected to TV gimmick

This is WAY better for traveling! And it’s cheap!

I’m very curious about this. It looks awesome. I definitely want to give it a try eventually. (I wish it had an Ethernet port however)

The dock in the OP holds the Switch up just fine with the back bit.

OK, OP. I bought one.

Like... literally went and bought one :p
Yesss... one of us. One of us. But seriously get used to carrying that AC adapter and an HDMI cord around, cause Odyssey is about to be on tons of random TVs you find.

This is what I was looking for. Thank you!
It works great and perfect for my bedroom! Try it out guys!

The original dock is unnecessarily over-engineered, presumably to try and make it seem like Switch isn't just a handheld with a TV out or something.

I might get the smaller one just for home use, never mind traveling. The original is a lumpy eyesore that topples over too easily.

It's funny that if the Switch had launched with a portable style dock like in the OP the entire conversation around it might be different. It really does look like a home console when docked, whereas with the portable dock you see the truth of it - it's a handheld hooked up to a TV via an HDMI cable.

Eh... My backplate is already pretty scuffed up. Not like I have much else to lose at this point. I wish something like this was available at launch, though.

I really can’t vouch for any other product. What worked for me is taking apart the dock and rehousing it. I don’t want anyone to accidentally brick their Switch.

Sometimes the dock will drop to $60 then it’s not so steep of a mod.

I've managed well enough with the original dock, was able to take it on a 2 day bike trip with a stay overnight in an airbnb. I think I would eventually want a smaller dock though.

The nyko dock seems like a cool idea but the stories about systems getting zapped scares me. Until Nintendo has cloud saves or some way of save transfers not going to touch anything 3rd party like that.
