Yea this is what I think too. Once the trolls stop flooding the place it will go back to normal.People is still reading, it's just that no one wants to reply... GAF is on silence mode, and for a good reason I believe

Last I heard, open registrations will start "tomorrow probably".
Maybe not in this thread...You do realize that that is coming from the leavers as well as the remainers? It will also be calm again when the transitional period is over.
What are you talking about? Looking at the past few pages, I don't see them getting banned.
But.. Will it be like here?, that you cant reply until confirmed. It's gonna s**k to spend 6 months waiting for a Junior Account when I just recentrly got it here.
Normal Registration will happen soon. Some saying tonight and some saying tomorrow, I haven't heard myself

It's probably gonna be like that. However, the site doesn't carry a long wait list and the huge mod team should make the process quick.
I know it's hard, I only got Member status like a month ago.
Maybe not in this thread...
Junior Member -> Member is all about post count iirc

It's not a blanket statement....so making such a blanket statement isn't appropriate? And even if there were people banned somewhere, it doesn't necessarily mean they got banned for that. We even had the example today where that was used as a weapon after a user created a certain thread.
Yes, there are people being immature as they leave.
I, however, would rather leave amicably rather than burn bridges for the sake of my choice of forum.
Have you considered the fact that they have maybe posted in a deleted thread? There were a lot of them throughout the days. It's not a blanket statement.
I saw plenty of users request an invite last night , and they're banned now, and even looked at some of their last posts and nothing malice in them.
Also apparently the site name is a banned word here as well as some other forum.
And ppl getting banned because of invites in their PM's.
Screenshots of the ban reasons have been floating around too.
As did most of the people. It's just a shame not everyone can do it with good manners.
Someone throws a party. Everyone shows up. All of a sudden a bunch of assholes who had no problem partying there before start to say "This party sucks, you should go to the other party!" On their way out they insult the owner and piss on the rug.
What would you do?
Junior Member -> Member is all about post count iirc
Is the host of the party grabbing random peoples asses all night to show dominance?
No, but he did grab the ass of a woman at the grocery store when he left to pickup more drinks once the party was started. He also displayed some nude pics of someone without their consent early on, yet everyone stayed!

Yehhhhhh which the site administration would have access to..As did most of the people. It's just a shame not everyone can do it with good manners.

Can't really comment on that but apparently it is standard practice with those that split off from this one?
You don't get banned for that. A developer posted yesterday that reading other people's PMs isn't possible, unless you have direct access to the database. Misinformation being spread isn't exactly a new thing though.

All of them?

Also the community threads are not deleted...
Have you considered that not everyone was aware of the "host's" actions?
Some of us haven't been at this party very long, and never even knew the host until recently.
I'm with you! I've been at this party for a long time now, and wasn't aware of any of this until just recently. However, many people that recently left the party were aware, and stuck around anyway.
Hey there, you are spreading misinformation. First off, admins have access to the database. vBulletin allows them to run database queries right from the control panel. The developer you are talking about said that out of the box, vBulletin does not allow reading people's PMs. We know that NeoGAF is not run on vBulletin out-of-the-box and many people have developed vBulletin plug-ins that allow admins to read PMs without doing manual database queries, and I believe another poster mentioned the various other ways you can read PMs. Nobody from staff responded to my requests for clarification on why the TOS says that they can exploit and edit our PMs or why the privacy policy cannot be like other places that only allow admins to read PMs in response to a law enforcement request. As did most of the people. It's just a shame not everyone can do it with good manners.

I'm certain that some of those in the know will likely stay at the party regardless of recent events.

Anyway, there are sites out there that are reporting staff are reading their PM's and banning them for things they sent/received etc. vBulletin does NOT let any user read another users PM. You'd have to either login as that user, or have direct access to the database.
I like how in the thread about the state of NeoGAF, a lot of people are asking for info how how to leave the site for another.
Like, DAMN.
How does that contradict what I said? That just says that vBulletin does not let any user read PMs. He later clarified that he was saying vBulletin out of the box. So here are the issues:Which is understandable, as people have completely different approaches to the whole matter.
Hm?

An admin has direct access to the database
NeoGAF is not run on out-of-the-box version of vBulletin
An admin can login as you to view your PMs
The TOS says they can modify and exploit your PMs
He did not respond to my requests regarding the above.
On Reset you get a notification if someone qoutes you.
And bishoptl has joined their ranks.
Grass is looking mighty green on that side rn.
The modern features are amazing. On Reset you get a notification if someone qoutes you.

Not a mod tho.Bishoptl joining makes the grass look greener? You do realize the shit he got caught doing as a mod right? The guy went totally rogue to suit his personal agenda.
If that is an admirable quality then I don't know what to say.
I feel like it will go back to normal. Just give it a few more days.
Could be wrong, but I think it will recover.

Oh I forget, who changed the edit function?Oh then he is totes cool then. I mean the former says nothing about his character.
(But at the same time let's go on about how EviLore sucks)

You can highlight specific parts of someone's post and quote it without having to delete excess stuff.
Notifications is a huge plus too.
If you click on the user it brings up their profile without leaving the page.
You can "mention" users, like Facebook tag, and they'll get notified

Reads like some typical forum TOS stuff, like he said (no idea about reddit which you mentioned but I don't think it's your "standard" forum). One would have to check other forum's TOS.[...]rights you own or control to use, reproduce, transmit, display, exhibit, distribute, index, comment on, modify, create derivative works based upon, perform and otherwise exploit the messages posted or private messages sent on NeoGAF.com...
No actually I'm not aware of what he did and what got him demodded. I just like him because me and him were friendly for years and he was nice and helpful to me on several occasions.Bishoptl joining makes the grass look greener? The only mistake made here was taking the site down in the first place. Maintenance or not, bad timing.
Everyone is deserving of justice, and if you truly did something wrong I hope that works itself out in a court of law, where you will have to be proven guilty. If the claims are as baseless as you say, it's a scary time in history where people are being brought down by hearsay on social media.

I thought he is since his post said something like: "Shinobi will be wielding the [ban] hammer, and I'll be on the porch strumming a guitar with a shotgun nearby."
What type of database did the forum use and what was the forum software? Im not a software or developer person (I work in one of the lowest tech professions, legal/law) but I think I would be able to put together the SQL queries neededto display PMs if you give me a database structure.Yeah, I looked up his later posts just now.
Hm, I'm not entirely sure what to think. He is stating some things clearly but is at the same time being pretty vague.
I'm not really sure EL can do that as easily. Currently trying to remember how it was when I was an admin of a forum over ten years ago and I really don't think it was that simple. Maybe things have changed during that time...I wish you would have asked him directly.
You have to post a bit more of the TOS to make it more clear though.

You mean like simply highlighting some text and then c&p it?
Yeah, notifications is a big plus, as well as the report button. Wouldn't exactly call it "modern" features, as they have been around for a while but yeah, definitely improvements.
There are also a lot of less than stellar things which are getting mentioned in the proper thread. But considering the forum was just created, it will at least get better over time.
Quantity alone shouldn't be the metric for success when we're talking about a message forum. I'd rather read a few detailed critiques of a game than a few hundred "BEST. GAME. EVER." remarks.
These are good posts fwiw. Hopefully people flaunting the "gaf has 200k members" thing take the first post to heart. An I do hope this place can maintain good worthwhile discussion. This was a rare forum in which I could pick apart bad things or things I simply disliked about games I loved and not be called a troll. Remember: you can reallyyyy like something yet still find fault with it, and if you feel its flawless just keep in mind that may not be the case to everyone else! The latter is true (re: covering more topics), but a large part of NeoGAF's appeal to me over the years had been the back and forth debates between members that had a solid grasp of whatever they were discussing. Maybe I'm just getting old and don't have the time/patience to wade through hundreds of pointless replies that appear to be posted more to meet some sort of arbitrary daily post count quota than actually adding to the conversations. You know, messages like "in b4 lock" or all the first page replies in a hot topic that prove the poster hasn't even read the story linked in the OP.
Okies so the OT is "back". Should quiet down this Gaming side in any case. Still silence from the head honcho 2 or is it 3 days already, later? Mod(s) dun seem ta got much ta say either. So neither do I aside from:
