Not too long to go now until February 15th and the closer this gets, the more I want it. :)

Damn, that music always gets to me!!!

Ya know, every time something about this game is posted I see people complain about it looking like a mobile game or some other nonsense. I think it looks damned fantastic and welcome it into my arms.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
This went into "insta-buy" territory for me when Gamestop announced their physical release.

I played the everloving shit out of this game on the SNES but it's probably been 7-8 years since my last play-through. I'm definitely excited for this game.

16-bit graphics.

EDIT: Woah, just watched the video. The remake looks horrible - the comparison made me want to go play the SNES version for the first time. Absolutely gorgeous 16-bit graphics.

Thanks for the correction XD, i looked at the 16-bit graphics and reminded me of chrono trigger, the new art style reminds me of cheap games, so for me it has to be original.

Out of curiosity has there been any word on a rework of the magic system? In later parts of the game, you just spend most of the time in boss fights in menus spamming magic.

one of my favorite games. but agree with the people that the old graphics are way better than this.. shit..?

Anyway will most probably buy it when I buy a PS4, just because of the 10/10 cover.

Maybe if enough people buy the game we will see a secret of evermore/Illusion of time(gaia)/Terranigma

Agree with most of the thread about the art, low budget, cell phone graphics, etc. But I guess a lower budget is probably the only way the project got approved, and a different graphics style probably the best way to introduce the game to new or young gamers -- after all, if we want the original we can play the original.

I'm down for it as long as it's decent to play... Will be nostalgic to see the world in a new way and can't wait to hear the soundtrack.

i'd be shocked if you could nuke spam in this. it was one of the biggest fixes in seiken densetsu 3

I have this preordered. I never played the original. Not sure what to expect!
Tears! You will probably cry, the music will help a lot. :'(

I always thought the boy and the girl (I kinda like them when they are unnamed even though the default names are nice) were like 18 or 19, the art style makes them look like 12 and I don't like that. Also a little adjustment to the contrast should do wonders.

I have to admit that I'm in the same boat. The new release has definitely increased my interest in the original16 bit release though, which I missed at the time. Personally speaking, sprites look nicer to me than lower-budget 3D models. I think I'm just old.

But if fans of the game proclaim it to be the definitive way to experience it, then I'll still pick it up.

it was a drop dead gorgeous game in 1993. while i'm not filled with undying nerd rage over the new visuals i don't think anybody in their right mind prefers them

problem with the original game is it was a bit of buggy mess. verdict is out on how well the remake deals with those issues but i can't imagine them being carried over 25 years later

Awesome. I have no doubt that it was gorgeous in 93' as the sprite work in the original is absolutely fantastic now. If you end up buying the new version, definitely post your thoughts on here. I'm well over due for a good JRPG and if this is up to the standards of the original (ideally without the bugs you mentioned :p) then I'll pick it up. I'll just ignore the 3D models and enjoy the game regardless.

Really hope they revamped the magic system.

For those who haven’t played it, in the original you could easily stun lock any boss with magic. Enemies freeze in place during the spell, and you could queue up the next spell before the previous one wears off.

An improved magic system + better localization would make this game a huge improvement, even though the visuals look bland and the voice acting is terrible.

Mr. Grumpy

Grumpy see, Grumpy do.
I would be very happy to see a 2D version of this too, or even using cell shading in some way to bring the two versions together. Nevertheless, I'm still very happy to see this version getting a release and I'm not against the new look.

I love the original game, one of my most precious games but there are many people out there who just haven't played it so I really hop those people also get something from this.

I hope this does well and we get a remake of Seiken Densetsu 3. It’s a crime that we got Secret of Evermore instead of that game.

For those who haven’t played it, SD3 has you choose a party of 3 from 6 choices. Each character has their own story and it plays out differently based on whom you choose. Plus a class-changing system where you can advance to 2 possible intermediate jobs and 4 possible final jobs.

Maybe I should post this in the "raise your flame shield" thread but...

The art style doesn't really bother me to be honest, and I'm glad they're taking the game in a new visual direction. This looks more in line with Adventures of Mana (I'm sure they used the same engine) which was originally a Gameboy game, and while I'll admit it took me a while to warm up to I ended up liking the art style a lot better. In this case, the game had absolutely amazing pixel art originally - but that's just it - we'll always have the original game. Like I said earlier, I've played that game a million times. If they were releasing this with the original graphics (a la the Seiken Densetsu Switch Collection) I wouldn't be nearly as excited.

I had the same level of trepidation about the DS remake of Final Fantasy IV. Turns out that even though I prefer the amazing remaster on the PSP with it's awesome sprite work, I now have the luxury of choosing which version I want to play the next time I get the hankering for some Final Fantasy IV. I think this will be similar - the 3D looks primitive but will be serviceable. They're obviously having to scale things back to target the lower-end platforms like the Vita and phone market, and that's okay. The core gameplay looks like it's still in place so I'm really excited to play this game with a "fresh coat of paint" as it were. I'm also really excited by that sweet sweet OG box art on the physical release.

I seen alot of people complaining about the graphics and lack of mouth movement when talking but honestly neither of those things bother me. I like the graphics and am hyped for this one!

Do you know, I always preferred the graphics in Secret of Mana over Seiken Densetsu 3. Don't get me, I think they're both incredible but I think Secret of Mana seemed slightly less busy in some ways, maybe simpler.

I've been thinking about posting this for a while in on of these threads, it's not essential but may be of use to some people.

I'm definitely picking this up (on Steam). Can't wait to play it! I absolutely loved the original, so it will be interesting revisiting it with the remake.

I actually didn't realize it was coming so soon.

You don't have to use the magic system that way and you also don't have to try and prevent others from using it that way.

The art style is garbage. That said, the game could still be great. The original is a classic after all.

I just don't think it's for me. I actually just bought a SNES Classic for my brother and if we're going to experience Secret of Mana, it's in co-op on the Classic. We never fully beat the game back in the day, but we agreed it was still a fun game.

The remake will be nice for newcomers but I personally can stick with the original.

I was so close to not buying it, but the fact its getting a small phsycial copy run, why not. Its one of my all time favorite game.

Little nitpick, the sword, don't remember it being wooden.

Funny that not making enough copies make something sell more.

I may get this down the road during a sale, but the old geezer in me prefers the idea of playing this with pixels and scanlines.

It's not really wooden, more rusted trough. The more you powered it up the less crappy it looked, too.

I have to wonder if it'll be less trouble/possible to actually fully restore it, now, without having to resort to manipulating the game.

I’ve been wavering on my preorder for this, after reading this thread and hearing complaints about poor gameplay on Twitter... but I think I’m going to keep this one because of its limited physical supply.

That said, my faith in the game being good has taken a beating over the last couple of days and my expectations have been seriously lowered.

It doesn't look bad. But they really should release this on switch after they've done with the other versions. I prefer to play this kind of games on small screens

The big kid in the trailer with the perpetual angry face is rubbing me in all the wrong ways. Otherwise the art looks ok if a little too saturated/bright, Nintendo seems to love doing that.
/still sour over how saturated the grass in particular appears on the 3ds port of dragonquest 8
