Kingdom Come: Deliverance developer Warhorse has announced that the RPG has sold 300,000 copies on Steam, and over 100,000 at retail.

Game designer Daniel Vávra revealed the milestone on national Czech TV, adding that selling a million copies or more would be nice.

The game was Steam’s top seller the day it launched, and even managed to break into the top five most played games. Concurrent player numbers peaked at 75,071.

Great news for the devs!

Well deserved in my opinion. Good example of why it's important to stick to your original vision instead of bowing to public pressure.

I may be mistaken but this will probably be my favorite game this year. At least in my top three. Well deserved.

Very happy to see it doing well! Hope it continues to succeed and the (hopeful) sequel improves on all the small issues of the first. If I remember correctly, they wanted this to be a trilogy. Can't wait to see it unfold.

I’m glad it’s doing well. 45 hours played so far and it’s a really interesting game.

I hope this money they’ve made will help support a litany of post launch support that the game sorely needs. I mean it needs patches galore. Technical issues are pretty awful

Good news. Bugs aside, it sounds like a game on equal footing with BotW in terms of open-ness (with a focus on open quests vs BotW's open environment interaction).

I hope it's not forgotten for the goty awards at the year's end.

Ofc, it's also a great success against the harassment campaign that resetera and some websites tried to push. Good games will prevail :)

I've only watched bits here and there on Twitch, but it looks pretty damn interesting. It's nice to see a success story for a new development team.

I'm glad that it did well. I haven't bought it yet but i appreciate the ambition, uniqueness and fresh take on a medieval setting.

Couldn’t agree more.

Hopefully it has a long tail on PC too. Their going the right way about it by opening it up to mod support. Fantastic game.

I didn’t know anything about this game before I started playing it, but I’m pleasantly surprised with it. It has been very interesting from the start, and I’m enjoying it quite a bit.

Haven't had the time to get into it yet despite backing it, but good to see a game that's pushing the envelope in terms of design approach being well received. IIRC the intention is to make a trilogy of titles. As I understand it there are some technical issues, but it seems like the developers are working to address those and hopefully, future titles will build on and refine the systems.

I'm currently in Rattay and yeah, the game is a bit janky but in my personal experience, I haven't encountered a huge deal breaker yet. Then again, I'm playing on PC, other people may have worse experiences, especially on consoles. But it's certainly a gem in the rough, quite atmospheric, a little moody and slow-paced. It's everything that you won't find in AAA games and for that I'm willing to be lenient on its technical aspects especially considering that it's a rather small studio. To be honest, when I first played Witcher 1 it was a buggier mess than this. I'm sure they are going to iron everything out, so I'm glad that they are doing well.

For those interested in the historical accuracy, here's a cool pic:

That comparison shot it pretty cool.
I heard this game was tough. I'd be interested in the PC version myself, but I heard you need a decent system to run it.

I partly disagree with the phrase public pressure. It wasn't exactly public pressure, it was a loud minority that is well-organized so it very often bullies the gaming industry to do what they demand otherwise they start acting like petulant children. (like they do now with KCD)

I really hope developers learn a lesson from this and start ignoring or even fighting back against these annoying bullies, the game's big success only proves how absolutely irrelevant they are.

I would hope it wouldn't affect the progress made against microtransactions and loot boxes but then again that has been getting national levels of attention compared to a bunch of children on the other site.

There are A LOT of gamers who don't like microtransactions though, I was talking about the small organized minority that is trying to impose their authoritarian politics on the gaming industry.

This is fantastic news. It's good to know that a hardcore PC RPG, first and foremost, can stand on its own in terms of sales. I wish good fortune to the developers. What a fresh concept for an RPG. Exciting stuff.

This title was completely off of the radar for me but thanks to the good word of our fellow GAF-brethren, this is now on my backlog. I won't get around to picking it up for another 12 months or so but it seems like a gem that needs a tiny bit more polishing, so I don't mind waiting :)

Great post, I agree 100%. Sadly, I doubt this will make the sad acts you refer to reconsider anything. It will probably make them even more vocal if anything. Let's hope the gaming industry continues to ignore them.

This is a thread-worthy topic imo. The same just recently happened with Xenoblade Chronicles 2 - you would have thought playing yhat game makes you a women-hating almost-rapist. Yet here we are and it's the most successful Xenoblade-entry.
There needs to be more talk about vocal minorities dominating discourse of a game, despite the majority of gamers being perfectly fine with it.

I'm two months away from creating threads, so if someone did it, appreciated :)

Well deserved. After several hours this weekend, I'm absolutely loving the story and how open the world is for exploring.

I hope it keeps doing amazingly well. In the age of DLC and season passes, we need to show support for games like this and The Witcher who have so far, not gone down that route. Too bad some bugs are holding some back. The developer deserves success in my opinion.

Can you elaborate for me? I wasn't aware of any controversy or pressure surrounding this game.

Also, can anyone... ANYONE tell me the nature of the music that's playing in the background during IGN's review for this game? I need to know!

On topic, I'm on the fence about this game, and everything I'm reading here is pushing me closer and closer to it.

Here.

And i'd advise you to wait and see how the devs patch the game. Specially if you're on console.

Good god. Don't know why I didn't see this coming.

Wow, props to this guy for sticking to his guns. That is some serious fortitude; you have to be ready because they really love to swarm.

Of course once they find someone can't be swarmed they scatter like rats.

Long story short the identity politics obsessed were upset because the developer dared to be historically accurate and not include black people in their game, and let's not forget this is a European dev and there aren't many black people on their country even now but who cares, DIVERSITY! The dev reacted by wearing a stupid shirt making fun of them and then the identity politics obsessed became Kingdom Come: Deliverance obsessed. And even though the game was snubbed by both them and the gaming "press" it currently enjoys huge success which shows how much they matter.

Ehhhh, again. There’s a little more to the whole story than just the diversity thing. The dev has said and done divisive things regarding Gamer Gate and alt-right philosophies.

Again, not saying I’m after the guy. The game is great. 48 hours played so far. But only one very biased side of the story is being told right now in the thread.

Issues with the Dev go far beyond just the “lack of black People” thing

Eh, to me he just seems really really annoyed with these specific people because they harassed him endlessly (shockingly the press didn't pick up on that harassment) but tbh I don't usually follow this type of drama too closely so there might be something I'm missing?

Honestly I’d really rather not get into it thoroughly. It’s gonna hijack the thread.

I only spoke up because someone asked what the fuss was about and there were two responses that seemed very conveniently trivialized.

I’m not saying the guy is a bad person. I’m not saying I’m triggered or was ever triggered, I’m just saying the full story is a little more complicated and the truth is out there for people to do their own research and find their own conclusion.

It’s ok that I’m a liberal and the dev isn’t. That kind of thing wouldn’t sway my decision to buy a game. I just care if the game is good, and this game is great.

Regardless of what anyone thinks, Vávra alone is not Kingdome Come. We have a specific topic where these things can be discussed without infringing on other people's enjoyment of the game who want nothing to do with political internet drama.

Good news. Some of the arguments towards the game itself were so fricking dumb. Multiple places even complained about the game showing Cumans in bad light.

This is like complaining a story told frok Aztetc's perspective shows Conquistadors in bad light. I mean, obviously there were plenty of good spaniards in the world back then, but Aztec protagonsit wouldn't exactly know or care about that.
