So can we now stop with stuppid pictures and concentrate on the topic?

I have no googled more of it. While some guy who killed someone did shout Britain first ONCE. They are not a terrorist organization. If you count this than the whole Islam with its Allah Akubar is a terrorist organisztion..... Is it a nationalist party? Yeah is its anti islamic? Yes it is. But again they do not spread the word of wanting to kill people here. We have definitions for a reason If we just make up what these definitions are then why even argue anymore.

Just accuse everyone you do not like just like the picture.
But I did. The title of the thread.
"Facebook bans far-right group for hate speech"

A sane person would agree that is a good same. And if the thread was about a hate group from the left, I would say the same thing.
Intolerance should not tolerated, no matter who spreads it.

Now let's see some of the damage control for those hate group going around here...

Hate speech these days can mean anything. And it is a pretty easy word to silence other peoples opinion. What I actually need is evidence for this. I heard about some videos for example. If these were fake to promote a certain language than it is hate-speech for example.

An example: Which was pretty common on the internet. Was a group of people went to the streets burning cars, attacking pedestrians etc. The title was labeled something with Islam and was also spread through YouTube. Later it was found out, that this had nothing to do with the Islam but this event did happen after some Soccer Derby and these people were hooligans causing this havoc. This was obviously hate speech

If they "promoted videos that are true it is not hate speech. So what I need in this case are facts, statements or the videos that counted as hate speech and lead to Facebook shutting them down. Just telling me it is not enough for me since I want evidence and facts to be able to build my opinion. Otherwise I will be very sceptical n this current climate

What Britain First stands for and what it helps propagate is pretty vile. It feeds into a culture of fear, and out of that atmosphere, you can get incidents where racists like Darren Osbourne feel emboldened and justified in actions such as driving a van into a crowd of Muslims. So, good for Facebook on banning them, it's a start, at least.

Yep, they want a holy war on the streets of the UK, they're religious fanatics on top of being far right loons.

I remember when the nutters from the English Defence League were the media's big bad guys. One day they were dumb enough to try and hold a rally on Princess St in Edinburgh. I didn't know because I don't really follow the news but I was out shopping and I saw them. These big tough bad guys turned out to be a pathetic bunch of fat middle aged men huddled together in the rain holding some stupid signs. What they thought they were doing in Scotland I will never know but it was heartening to see all the people walk right past them like they weren't there. So that was an interesting lesson to me in the difference between image and reality.

Facebook is free to ban whoever they want, which makes this feels like non-news and it's pretty pointless as they can just create more groups or just set up a forum. It doesn't really accomplish much and will just give them more attention. You don't generally solve things by attempting to shut people up (more so it makes monitoring them harder), so Zuckerberg should stop pretending he cares about society at large and instead just say that he doesn't want this on his platform.

You guys are posting on Neogaf that has those exact rules in place...
Neogaf doesn't claim to be an open forum though...
Let me make it clear I don't think it's disgusting that a place has rules and enforces them, I don't think it's disgusting that nazis who spit venom get banned from a family friendly place. I think it's disgusting that a place pretends to be an open forum with rules against hate speech but has an obvious bias about what is and what isn't hate speech...

"Britain First"

The words a fanatic of Nazism shouted as he shot (three times) and stabbed (fifteen times) to death the Labour member of parliament Jo Cox in 2016.

The group who during the 2016 Brexit referendum had been feeding into the notion of civil war against British Muslims. Can't even be bothered to trawl through whatever other trash they say.

I think it's more than okay that they don't have a Facebook page to continue to radicalize people. Not disgusted at all.

That's just my opinion though.

This thread has finally cemented something that has been in the back of my mind for ages. Free speech (my interpretation of it at least) is a farce, plain and simple. We all have restricted speech and expression. Now that feels honest.

What is your interpretation if I may ask?

Aside from that one guy who used their name as he committed a violent act, Britain First doesn't sound so bad.

How in the world did you quote my post from a completely different censorship thread about a shitty game, and transplant it into this thread? So confused.

What would you label Katie Hopkins or Douglas Murray? Just out of interest...

I'm unfamiliar with either of these people. From a quick Google search, Hopkins wrote for The Sun/The Daily Mail, which I have come to understand is like the Fox News of Britain? So chances are she's probably a blowhard like Hannity. That would be my label, I guess. A blowhard.

Can't make heads or tails of Murray's wiki, though, in terms of forming an opinion.

Please don't start invading mosques (no matter how peacefully), especially if you're open-carrying and wearing a MAGA hat. That shit won't end well.

In all seriousness, I'm sorry for the people who think Facebook is disgusting for characterizing their platform as open while selectively enforcing the TOS. That means they honestly believed a corporation had anything but its shareholders in mind. Note, in the United States, it is illegal for a public company to have anything in mind that does not benefit shareholders in some way. I may be jaded, but it saves me from a lot of disappointment.

Hate speech is also free speech.

Ya know, people start throwing around the first amendment without actually knowing what it is often.

It's not some blanket statement that anyone can say anything at anytime. You don't have that. You've never had that. Stop pretending like this is a thing.

Private property and platforms have the right to self-police. People are allowed to throw you out of their house if you piss them off. That's all Facebook did. They threw these fuckers out of their house.

Free speech does not guarantee your right to a platform. It only keeps you out of prison, and even then there are limits. You can't shout "FIRE!" in a crowded theater. You can't stand up in the middle of Times Square and incite a riot. You can't verbally conspire to commit murder. You can't. You just can't. Freedom of speech is not absolute.

Of course there are free speech. People are free to say whatever they want. Just expect that some of those words have consequences.
If someone has a racist homophobic speech, then they really should not be suprised when people treat them as a racist homophobic dipshit.

You know, cause and consequence. Is a very basic concept.

It's to show that there is a double standard. How many left wing nuts are banned compared to right wing nuts? That's the point. My views as a person of the right can easily be banned yet people on the left get away scott free.
Yup. The nutters on the far left are equally as bad yet get off scott free. (Not that im condoning racists, they can die in a fire)

the problem people have that they do it in such a selective way that needs to be criticized. You could even argue that if they would treat left extremist the same they could spark an outrage on the left and being accused of sexism and racism when they for example would remove a ANTIFA site which openly calls for violence acts.

I suppose that's a fair enough label, given your political outlook. I was fairly sure Murray would be a difficult one... :)
Anyway, Britain First describing themselves as a 'street movement' is pretty telling... You wouldn't catch many 'decent' people at that type of event.

Since they are only dozens of them at such events it is not very dfficult.

But Seriously If Britain Frist than so should ANTIFA. Or the people who openly call for invading classrooms to stop discussion panels at Universities.

They did take down the page of AntiFa Boston.

EDIT: Oh, I guess it was a false-flag page.

Then that is not free speech then isn’t it?! The fact that people curtail what they say in any environment says alot a lot about the state of free speech. If the wrong thing is said all of a sudden people you’ve never met are finding out where you live, where you work, every thing you’ve said in the past, and trying to get you fired and harassing family members.

Just like North Korea...

Yes just like North Korea because everywhere else in the world you're allowed to say whatever you want without any consequences. You're totally free to go into a black neighborhood and start shouting the N word and no one will beat your ass. You're free to go into work and tell the boss you hate he's a stupid piece of shit and he certainly won't fire you. And so on and so forth.

How much you want to bet that people have found out ways to subvert these “consequences” that you speak of and speak how ever they want without losing every earthly possession. Pst I’ll give you a hint. It’s all over the internet

If that was the case then we wouldn't even have this thread. For a long time people treated the internet like the wild west but that's been changing for a long time now for a wide variety of reasons.

And you're totally free to get fired from your job for saying Merry Christmas, lose your advertising contract for stating statistical facts, and get suspended from school for debating the existence of 87 genders...

Did you really think anyone was advocating for your examples?

That's what these people did, harassed them at homes and places of work in front of children even, that's why they've been jailed. Spreading hate for their own political ends. What Trump did and he got elected, and he retweeted their videos which were complete bs.

Sorry to tell me what? That there are parts of the internet that are by design totally "open" as to what goes on? No shit, of course that's true. However to act like the internet as a whole, especially the biggest entities out there haven't started to regulate themselves and those that use their stuff seems to be just ignoring what's been going on. They basically have to if they want to keep their advertisers happy and using their platform.

Are you saying that people that spread hate should not receive hate back?
Are you serious?
Someone would have to be a massive hypocrite if they get offended for being treated like an racist, for being a huge racist.

I don't even know how a funtional adult would be suprised that the hate that they spread would bring them hate back.

Ok. So we must be speaking about two different things. I’m taking about the state of freedom of speech. I think you are talking about Facebook and their selective enforcement of their rules.

You can lose your job for far less than hate speech, so yeah you should lose your job for hate speech. Don't be saying hateful shit at work. That isn't hard.
