If anyone would like to play Sea of Thieves with other GAF members, please list your Xbox Live Gamertag here and preferred playing times and if you like, the type of play you are looking for (ie: serious only, becoming legends/leveling, treasure hauls, hunting & killing the Kraken, PvP, straight co-op, exploration (finding hidden coves), goofing off, etc). So please feel free to use this thread to coordinate play-through's with any other members of GAF. You are also welcome to discuss the game, it's pluses or minuses, your reviews and/or your individual or team experiences; in any fashion you deem fit. Microsoft Store lists this as a Play Anywhere title, so you can play on Xbox One, Xbox One X and/or PC and transfer back and forth as required while maintaining the progress you have made. It also lists the release as 3/19 at 11pm central, whereas the official launch date is Tuesday, 3/20.

Some questions answered:
1. If you buy Game Pass on Xbox One, will that allow you to play via the PC since this is a "Play Anywhere" title? Answer: "Yes if the title is Xbox Play Anywhere you can play the PC version too if you are a Game Pass member." (thanks Zetty!!)
2. Will the 30 day trial of Game Pass let you live share? It was said my one member, he heard the 14 day one does not allow it. But this is unverified in either case. Answer: ??

I've been on GAF since before it was Neo, since before UBB code when forums were like a Reddit with only one post per page and nearly indiscernable link chains. When UBB came, original GAF was a pretty hot alternative to Nintendojo and NextGen forums. I do admit to being momentarily distracted by SegaDojo and Nintendorks, but otherwise I've been steady on GAF all these years.

Edit: Got the game installed. Used matchmaking to get two crewmates, but for some reason our ship was upside down and they didn’t have voice comms. So we messed around on the island until they got bored and left. Getting together a proper crew will be essential!

When trying to exit the game to desktop, the game froze. :/

Cosmetic only progression is kind of bummer but iam still willing to try this with few of my friends through game pass. Though I don't see myself playing this for long, especially when Farcry is also out same week.

Concept is really interesting and core mechanics are also very good, it's just progression system bothers me little.

Played some solo. Found the skeleton w/ green eyes and skeleton king island thingy, but a crew of four there kept knocking me into the depth of the sea, lol! Btw... At one point it looked like they shot someone out of their cannon at me. He flew 300 yards in the air from their ship to mine, just falling short. But this definitely needs friends with comms.

Game is truly amazing so far though, this is REALLY a different beast that requires re-thinking the whole concepts of online gaming. I'm really impressed so far and find it very fascinating.

p.s. I'll be on tonight after 6pm central and looking to get a good game w/ 4 people and comms going. Whoever's on at the time I'll invite for some pirate shenanigans.

Lastly: performane on PC with Mystical settings, never dropped below 60+ fps. Mostly in the 70-80's. Ping was ~100. On XB1X it was smooth except in the very beginning for some reason. After a few minutes of play it was never an issue again.

Cross platform game sharing has never worked. Gears was like this too.

Yeah in case you don't know you can shoot yourself from a cannon, even when playing solo. When using a cannon, instead of pointing to its back, point to its mouth and you should see "press Y to climb into cannon". Then pressing RT should shoot you away (make sure you pointed the cannon in the right direction beforehand, because you can't change its direction once inside the cannon).
It's especially convenient to quickly get to the center of an island, instead of swimming and walking through the beach.

No, it does not. Due to issues which authenticating licenses across platforms, you'll need a digital copy attached to a Microsoft account for the feature to be available. This was explained in more depth by marketing chief for Xbox, Aaron Greenberg.

It is specific to digital because we have to be able to associate your account with the product. When you purchase ReCore digitally in the Windows 10 Store on Xbox One, that game will be tied to your account. When you go between multiple devices, we'll be able to say 'this is your game, this is your game library.' We're only able to do that digitally today.​

If you want to take advantage of Xbox Play Anywhere you need to have a digital copy of the game, either by purchasing it directly from the Xbox Store on your console or by using a pre-paid code from a third-party retailer.

Well ironically enough it's exactly what the original Xbox DRM was supposed to be in 2013, but gamers shot it down, mostly because it required a tighter control of second-hand market.

I have an experiment to do tonight, but I'm sure this answer is already out there.

I have an Xbox Live Gold account, as does my son... but they are on the same Xbox. If I log into SoT on my PC and he tries on the Xbox under his own user, if that will work.

Option 2. Buy both of us a Game Pass and try it that way. Being that it's the same Xbox, the game will already be downloaded on the console, so I'm guessing the game will detect user switching.

They actually did before the Xbox One launch. Then everyone cried murder about "used copies" so we had to stay in the dark ages.
I'd rather the PC style, where I buy a license key, install and not worry about physical media.

Interesting... this is what I would think, that the game would be tied to your microsoft account, which you can log into in the windows store and xbox live. It's weird we have an official response saying no and someone saying yes. Can anyone else confirm for us?

Is it a physical copy for Xbox or PC ? What prevents you from selling your disc and playing the downloaded version ? It's nice if it works, but it sounds like a bug more than a feature.

I was able to start up Sea of Thieves this morning (even without installing the game) now I am getting a message saying Sea of Thieves services are temporarily unavailable, please try again later. The other mystery is when I click on other Game Pass titles on the Microsoft store like Zoo Tycoon it won't give me the option to play either, just buy, but above that it says "With your Xbox Game Pass, play this game for free or buy it to own.". Gears of War 4 is the only game available to try.
