....doubtful and even if they did I'd say they were been overly sensitive.

The top sprinters are usually West African or at least genetically able to trace their ancestry back to West Africa.

Likewise, Kenya dominates long distance, but its not Kenyans as much as it is a very small location within Kenya that the top runners come from.

Its almost certainly an evolutionary trait that has been passed along.

Exceptions exist of course, it doesnt automatically mean West African = everyone is a potential world champion in the same way being white doesnt mean its impossible for them to win, but when you are talking to top of the top tier level atheletes who all train and compete at those highest levels even small inherit traits may make the difference.

If this is sincerely bothering you, mm, you might be harboring insecurities about that event related to the skin color of the participants vs the result and how your apparent genetic limits were laid bare. Something like, "if it was fair then I could've won, but I'm stuck back here because I'm white and no matter how hard I push myself it'll never even be noticed one way or another."

Life isn't fair whatsoever though, and apparently black people are faster than you. It happens. Let it go and take pride in making it to provincials and pushing yourself to the limit in competition. Sports competition is one of life's great experiences and a lot of people never avail themselves of it.

Or don't let it go and methodically take one of your gloves off, slap Deion Sanders across the cheek with it, and demand satisfaction for being racially insensitive to you, I guess? Nah, just let that shit go. Being triggered or outraged doesn't have any inherent value and you're better off discarding weaknesses you identify in yourself than holding onto them like trophies. I remember being in a Walmart in rural TN and there was a black guy with a NASCAR jacket on in front of me in line. The conversation that someone else struck up with him was, to me, the most awkward thing ever of "I.. I didn't know that, well, any of you guys were into that sort of thing". But it was a completely positive (albeit weird & hilarious) experience and they both ended up talking about NASCAR.

Blacks being generally faster and/or more athletic than whites is so self-evident and universally accepted that I doubt you could even get funding for a study anymore to determine whether or not it's the case. There are always studies attempting to determine exactly why. This guy running a 4.35 is a pretty big outlier. That's the truth. I don't know why saying so should offend him or anyone else.

Real bias does often show up in scouting reports, though, and it cuts both ways.

No, it's apt. It's expressing surprise that a member of one ethnic group is excelling where they historically have not. If you want to talk genetics, sports culture, or any other detail of the specifics, that could be an interesting discussion. Last century, boxing was dominated by Irish, Italians, and Jews. Definitely not the same now. What's the change? Why is ice hockey still almost uniformly white?

If you’re white and played organized sports this is pretty common. The expectation is that we are generally lesser athletes, but when you aren’t you get that much more attention. I never took it personally, as a basketball guy it was not uncommon for me to be one of the few white dudes. Some white guys can run and some have serious hops, but definitely not the norm.

My guess would be more white women were able to afford the best training to get an upper hand. It works with women competitors because women’s sports tend to be underfunded and a training advantage would be more likely to be shown in these circumstances.
