Yeah, Microsoft is routinely criticised for over relying on its golden trio [Halo, Gears and Forza], and yet again all three are (apparently) back. I suppose I just expected something... different.
Regarding Gears, I think they'd have to do something significant to make it interesting again. A change in art direction and gameplay, perhaps.
I still think all three need to go on a long hiatus though.

This is what I don't get. Every year it seems MS will bring up the same ol' stuff. Gears, Halo and Forza. Out of those I like Forza, but come on...

I paid $60 and finished it. I can barely remember anything about it. I recall killing robots and then the ugly things. I feel bad that those devs got Gears dumped on them when they were trying to make their own IP. MS needs to trust the devs more.

Same. I do remember enjoying it, and I remember some parts of it (mainly the ending and lore bits) - but overall it was rather forgettable. What made me annoyed was the over-reliance on hideous skins/lootboxes and Horde Mode.
OT: There is zero chance we will see a Sunset Overdrive this year. Hell, it was only late last year that Insomniac stated they had no one willing to put forth the money to develop a sequel. Unless it is only a teaser (which would be a terrible move for MS given their current status), there is just no chance they have anything developed for it.

Bought Gears 4 on release but never got around to playing it til 2 or 3 weeks ago. Played through with a buddy and we both agreed it was pretty bad. Some of the most unsatisfying gunplay I've experienced in a while. Everything is way too bullet spongy and hardly any of the enemies feel satisfying to kill. Especially the robot enemies, those had to be the most boring enemies to kill in a game for quite some time.
Anyways, I'm hype for Forza Horizon 4 and Halo on PC.

Since 343 already said that halo 6 wont be at e3 this year if they do show something halo related its not halo 6. Tbh in my opinion I think its better for 343 to wait and announce it along with the next xbox, this gives 343 time to make halo 6 into a game that fans can be satisfied with and actually works at release(*cough*MCC*cough*) lol. If anything halo related is shown at e3 im hoping its a spin off like odst but taking place between halo 1 and halo 2 with flood.

I constantly see people talk about how bad the robot enemies are in Gears 4, I kind of want to experience that for myself lol. Talking my friend into installing a 120gb game is a tough sell, his net is total shit, but since we both dumped State of Decay 2 already and we're subbed to game pass he might go for it.

Yea, the 4k assets blew this thing up.
If you enjoyed the first 3 gears (let's ignore Judgement), there's a good chance you'll enjoy this. The robots aren't great, but they don't stick around for too long and the supposed bullet sponginess is basically the same throughout the series.

I'm waiting for the Battle Royale/Battlegrounds thing to turn into teams and then become PC 64 player Battlefiend 2 circa 2005. Like how Action Quake 2 turned into Team Action Quake then Counterstrike came out.

Oh but it is. The only reason why i have an xbox is because of halo. The only reason xbox became relevant in the first place is because of halo. And its been 3 years since the last (non meh-tier RTS) halo title. And gears has been absent for 2 years since 4 launched.

The Gears game is not Gears 5. It's gonna be a spin off with tactical gameplay Ala Xcom style.

No. I work in the industry and will be attending the press event and microsofts showcase in LA this year and I know a lot of people.
I have my sources. But take it with a grain of salt anyway, because it's the best thing to do. Never believe everything you read all the time on the internet because this is how leaks usually work.
You can take it for what it is, and not expect anything or believe it and be disappointed. It's your choice.
Splash Damage is making the Gears spin off. Coalition stated they're taking time for Gears 5 and they're also assisting Sumo Digital with Perfect Dark. Rare is making 2 new IPs with SoT content. Oh and there is a new Mech game in development, but I have no clue who's developing it yet.
Also there is something called Banjo 20 A which stands for Banjo 20th Anniversary. Now before you start screaming I'll tell you right now it's not software related but rather a surprise event for Sea of Thieves with Kazooie as a cosmetic companion pet as Rare has much promised such items prior to release. You can also get a Banjo figurehead. And just so you know Banjo was released back in June 1998 so yes the anniversary next month is 20 years.

Either way Perfect Dark making a return is something I've wanted for the last 13 years. Banjo DLC for SoT actually sounds cool too, obviously I'd rather have a new Banjo-Kazooie game but I'll take what I can get.

Well to be honest it makes sense. Phil spencer said multiple times they wanna push their IPs into newer genres. Many people complain that they're playing to safe with samey halos and gears game. I'd say this is a good thing on them so kudos.

No. But, the recent hiring of Deller Gallagher (former 10 year old tomb raider boss from Crystal dynamics) is supposedly leading a new found Microsoft game studio over at southern California. The studio is apperently created to create AAAA games, yes quad A studio.
Don't ask if I know what that means (because I am confused as everyone else is) , but it does exist and that's the intention. I have no clue in terms of differences of quad A and triple A. I'd assume a budget, considering MS is one of the richest corporations in the world with unlimited money it wouldn't surprise me they're really really pushing the envelope coming next gen.
Phil said multiple times they're heavily investing in 1st party titles and this is an example of that. But it won't be soon and these things will take time. Perhaps this is the studio that might be developing the equivalent Horizon game. But this is just a personal predicition.
To be quite honest tho I see Fable more of a Horizon comparison due to a racing studio going to a action rpg if that's what you mean.

Well, that's interesting. I think the best possibile thing to do right now for MS is not develop new exclusives for xbox one but established new teams for new IPs, push existing ips in new genres and prepares themselves for the next xbox launch. Any new games right now will bring problematic scenarios. The have already lost this gen, I think this is the ONLY way to be competitive in 2020 against the Sony first party team

If I was a Sony person I'd be asking if we're ever gonna get anything like Xbox has (Halo, best fps, Gears, best 3rd person shooter, Forza, best racer, Halo Wars, best RTS, Cuphead and Ori, best 2D platformers, Sea of Thieves, State of Decay, Crackdown, varied and unique multiplayer experiences)

My personal prediction here is that Fable and Perfect Dark are being created in mind as both launch titles for the next system.
I really think these 2 particular games should either not be released on Xbox One or be played as cross gen title if they are since MS is really pushing the backwards/forward compatibility.
This will make the next Xbox Launch look extremely solid. The ship has kind of sailed for Xbox One if you ask me. It's already clear theyre too far behind on games. Crackdown 3, ori and the new Halo will be a good way to cap this generation off for MS and move on to better and bigger things come 2020. Just a wild guess maybe Gears 5 is also a launch title and they wanna go all out,. But that's just a guess.
