Rumor: New Super Mario Bros U is coming to Switch

Ugh. They could port it as nSMB3 and I still wouldnt be able to the difference. They all look the same to me, a generic attempt of cutting corners at a nostalgic factor to ape off of the success of the og DS game.

Good god nintendo, if youre going to make another 2d mario game, atleast give it the same level of creativity you gave galaxy and odyssey

You seem to be upset about something. I don't quite understand why it's a problem to have both new releases and ports. I trust that Nintendo know what they're doing when allocating resources (at least better than I do, lol). I expect Nintendo to iterate on the Switch and future iterations will very likely have backwards compatibility. So, porting to that architecture / OS might make sense in the long run. But I'm not saying that they should do ports only. No need to be upset, unless I offended you somehow. If that is the case, I am sorry.
Sorry, I did not mean to be rude. It is just that, for many publishers it is true that the ports do not come at the cost of new releases, but for Nintendo, specifically, it is wrong. And that it is wrong upsets me as a loyal Nintendo customer, because their games are pretty unique among all big publishers, so no other publisher can fill this void.

I'm with you on that. I was expecting before E3, they would show nSMB3 for Switch. But like a complete re-invention of 2D Mario. Looks like it ain't gonna happen.

If a port of "U" renamed give them the sales momentum that they need this year, I'm ok with that. I just expected more.

That would be rather shitty. After such a long hiatus, Nintendo could just make a new 2D Mario. Why do they hate their Wii U customers so much?
Agreed.

New system, give us nostalgic types something new (lol) to get our hands on. Many people may have missed NSMBU, so just port it and give us loyal fanboys and girls something new.

Thats why i still dont buy the switch.
i already buy the wiiU. and i already play tropical freeze, mario kart 8 + dlc, smash + dlc, zelda breath of the wild, captain TOAD...
so...i dont have much interest for switch...
besides...put bomberman as an assist trophie, was a bad move :D.

it looks like throughout the switch life cycle, it won't get a new Mario kart or a new 2d mario

personally i couldn't give less shit about both

but i'd be interested in a metroidvania 2D Mario game, it's time for the series to evolve

Oh, OK. I didn't think it was "that bad" when it came to Nintendo allocating dev teams to do ports. That was me being ignorant there, I suppose. Well, if HD Zeldas take a away a future Zelda game, then of course I would rather have a new Zelda game (as an example). But I still hope for Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, haha.

This console has been such a disappointment, Zelda and Odyssey lit the world on fire and the rest are Wii U games I already own, pixel art games, indies that will be available elsewhere and horrible attempts at 3rd party modern engine translations (DOOM, Wolf etc.)

You and me both. It was fantastic game, it would be damn shame it died off on WiiU. This needs second chance on Switch.
Hell yeah, man! Especially when we probably won't get any Persona games... (I don't understand Atlus in that regard, third-party games should be on as many platforms as possible).

Dammit.
It's Super Mario 3D World that I want ported. Surely Nintendo will do this eventually?

I’m sure they will, but they should port this first, since a 3D Mario was just released last year. Plus, they need some time between this and an actual new 2D Mario and/or Mario Maker 2.

Well Nintendo might not get Persona but they do get Shin Megami Tensei and as much as I LOVE Persona series, when it comes to satisfying battles and hard bosses SMT is where you want to go.

Technically, Zelda is a Wii U game too

Of course there will be new DKC and Mario Kart titles somehwere down the line. We would likely have had at least a new Mario Kart earlier without the port though.

I am not upset about being a Wii U customer, in fact, I was very happy with the Wii U. I am upset as a Switch customer that Nintendo offers so few new games. Hell there are only two native Nintendo games for Switch I own so far, Mario and Mario + Rabbids. Admittedly, if I liked shooters or grind RPGs, then it could be two more, but we are talking a system that is 1.5 years old. From my perspective, this is the worst early phase Nintendo system in my lifetime (EDIT: Except for Virtual Boy, but that one did not even get released here, so it is hard to count that).

Switch has been out 17 months, in that time they have released,

Not bad but I think Nintendo's output is about as good if not better to be honest. The PS4 started to get a lot better after and this is where Nintendo may fall behind unless they can ever figure out how to get a steady flow of games. This has always been their issue as many get delayed and without the AAA third party support there is way too much pressure on 1st party. However when you compare Nintendo to Sony's published titles they are not actually that far apart. It's just that Sony and Microsoft get more third party AAA games.

Because when comparing games you can play on PS4 vs games you can play on Switch, it doesn't make sense to disregard games because they're also on Xbox.

Nintendo defenders insist we look ONLY at exclusives and not the entirety of the library because most of the biggest third-party games are on PS4, Xbox One and PC but not Switch.

Zelda - BOTW - Wii U port
1-2 Switch - OK
Mario Tennis Aces - OK
Captain Toad - Treasure Tracker - Wii U port
Arms - OK
Splatoon 2 - OK
Mario + Rabbids - Ubisoft (but with Nintendo license, so OK)
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 - OK
Snipperclips - OK
Super Mario Odyssey - OK
Fire Emblem Warriors - OK
Pokkén Tournament - Wii U port
Octopath Traveler - Square Enix
I have marked my problems with that line-up.
Now please show me what Sony and Microsoft published in their first 17 months.
I did not talk about MS and Sony and I do not know their line-up in the first 17 months. I do claim Nintendo does a worse job than ever before though, in terms of new core-gaming content. MS and Sony tend to have the advantage to have third party developers at their side, which Nintendo does not.[/quote]

I just don't think the NSMB games are very good. I received NSMBU for free with my purchase of MK8 back when it released, and I just don't think it's a very good game.

I agree with what others have already said: I hope Nintendo leaves behind the NSMB series, and invests some more thought in money in making good 2D Mario games again.

That's the main reason I'd be disappointed with this port.

They won’t do it, but they should make a New Super Mario Bros All Stars.

Give NSMB 1, 2 and Wii an HD remake and just port the Wii U game and DLC.

Switch is a tablet with touch display, not a gaming "console".
It should already have browser and some basic apps.
No need to question peoples sanity for absolutely reasonable demands.
I know that Nintendo is promoting it as "home console hybrid",
but it is just a lie for marketing purposes.
p.s. like they were saying that Breath of the Wild is "open air game", not "open world".

no-one buys them just for netflix and youtube.

BUT... youtube sucks on phones. netflix sucks on a small screen esp when you have a decent sized TV right next to you. Not everyone wants to watch movies on a computer.

The only time options are bad, is when you don't have them and have to make up excuses to compensate.

To me Switch is “gaming” system and it all needs to is to play games for me. If I need Netflix that badly I will either use my smart TV or connect my labtop to TV.

Yeah. It's literally the reason I don't have a Switch yet. There's basically one game I want to play that is out now: Mario Odyssey. The lineup is fantastic for someone who didn't own a Wii U. But for people who did, I won't pull punches, it's quite shitty. Bayonetta 3 and Metroid Prime 4 may move the needle. But as of now it's impossible to justify the purchase for one game.

I guess Octopath, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Breath of the Wild don’t count as games?

Yeah, as a Wii U and 3DS owner there just isnt any good reason to own a Switch at this point. I may cave for Simon in Smash but honestly I really dislike the idea of supporting Nintendo's half-assed efforts right now.

Breath of the Wild is on Wii U, and I don't really like JRPGs. People get so defensive... but it's a fact that the Switch is far less compelling for a Wii U owner than for a non-Wii U owner in terms of the library. That's just reality. And as Yoshi stated above, we know these Nintendo ports are being handled largely in-house, which means it probably IS having at least SOME impact on new development, at least moreso than the farmed out stuff that Sony does for example. They're filling out the library, I get it; I'm sure it makes a lot of sense for them, and for the vast amounts of potential Switch customers that never owned a Wii U. But that doesn't mean Yoshi and I and others have to like it.

I can't understand the hype for Smash. I'm sure this won't be a popular statement here, and I may get a bunch of pedantic nitpicks in reply, but Smash Switch looks essentially like an enhanced Smash U port. Which is fine, and probably great for a lot of people, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. I want to want a Switch. But there's just no way I can possibly justify it at this point. (Though my son is gonna start bugging me before long... he's gonna want that damn Pokemon game...)

Really good point and I totally agree with you,
However, it would be really cool for Switch owners if it has a browser and some basic apps.
In some situations people could take Switch with them instead of regular tablet if it has more functionality.

If we all blindly support every NIntendo decision and suppress every legitimate criticism we would end up looking like Inspector Gadget in public, with Switch, Iphone, Splatoon headset, amiibo dolls, laptop/tablet and paid online service above all of it.

This mostly my own personal opinion but I don't care for Netflix or any other streaming app on my gaming console. I own PS4 but I never once use the browser, Youtube or any social media. All I want from my console is to play games as long as it can do that then I'm happy.

I'm not hyped for it either since im not a huge smash fan but I've been bitching about them snubbing Simon for years now and I put my money where my mouth is.

Such a money grab to release this before Mario Maker.

Mario Maker will be just like other games designed around the two screen play of the Wii U (like Captain Toad and Breath of the Wild) and will be inferior on Switch because of that.

I'm still pissed about the clunky interface in BotW they even stripped in the Wii U version to keep the Seitch version superior. Anyone can tell the Shiekah slate is an in-game Wii U tablet.

I never want to see another NSMB game released again. I genuinely believe that NSMB killed the Wii and Wii U.

The sad thing is people have already started asking for Wii ports so we might not ever be in the clear.
