Is it me or is the hype for this game a bit muted? We're roughly five weeks away from playing the first next gen Rockstar game and there's seemingly nothing but crickets from the gaming community. What gives? The original Red Dead Redemption was incredible and we're getting a follow-up that's bigger and badder in every way possible.

So GAF, I ask you, where's your hype at?

Rockstar usually releases alot of ads by whatever month their games fall under. Honestly though they don't need it. I expect the game to break 5 million in the first week alone.

Honestly mate am 37 years old , through my 30+ years of gaming i have never been as excited as i am to get my hands on RDR2 , I am not ashamed of saying it i have booked 25th and 26th off work .

Not yet, but closer to release day where my hype starts kicking in. There's other hot stuff that got released begging for attention atm, like Shadow of the TR on the X.

But pre-order on prime ready to go.

I am super hyped for it. Its my birthday month, so I've asked for the Ultimate Edition bundle. Its certainly my most anticipated title this fall. I bet reviewers are anticipating getting their review copy. @Whataburger is probably right. I bet it could easily break 5 million or more. We don't get a John Wayne-eqsue- Wild West grand adventure that often. Red Dead Redemption was exceptional. This isn't another Samurai Western, GUN or Call of Juarez we're getting.

I loved RDR1 but i'm not hyped about RDR2 at all. Specially because i know they won't release the PC version along with consoles. I don't intend to double dip.

Day One! I will be pre-ordering it soon on PSN. They have the physical all messed up with the Ultimate Edition (Disc version exclusive to GameStop), so all other stores get a Steelbook with no disc, not cool.

Thus GCU does not apply since they still consider it "digital", so I will get it on PSN due to the fact that I have a ton of Sony Rewards points to apply.

Wait what? Does the regular version also only have a code? lol

Rockstar at one point meant a lot to me but I've been less than impressed with them since the PS2 era, my hype for RDR2 is like a 2.

I have no idea even what it is about. I saw like 1 trailer, I know it a prequel but thats it. honestly I do not know If am hyped or not because right now I have so many games still to play that I am not even thinking about it.

I think the regular versions are fine. It is only the Ultimate Edition that is impacted with this. Comes with the silly paper map and a steelbook, but only GameStop gets the disc (Amazon, Best Buy, etc., get a digital code), lol.

I stumbled on that last week, since there was no announcement.

This is not the only GameStop Exclusive that is NOT being communicated properly either. Sekiro's Collector's Edition is a GameStop exclusive, even though Activision and GameStop mentioned nothing in the press release and have been seemingly ignoring Tweets about it.

Well now that amazon/bb doesn't do discount for pre ordering games I don't mind buying shit at gamestop :/. Still sticking with the regular version either way.

I would've been more hyped if it wasn't for the bullshit with the various editions. I'll probably wait for the special edition to cost 60 dollars, wouldn't want to miss out on the extra story mode content and I never paid more than 60$ for a new game.

Nintendo could release a Zelda game that would make Breath of the Wild look like Watch_Dogs.
Ubisoft could make a Splinter Cell that would put Chaos Theory to shame.
Eidos could make a paradign shifting Deus Ex or IO Interactive could make a face melting Hitman.

In not a single one of those cases would you ever catch me pre-ordering any of them. Not even if they offered you a blow job from 90's Cindy Crawford (or today. That woman doesn't age) for pre-ordering the game.
I consider pre-orders to be a cancer of this (or any) industry.

I still have GCU until November 2019, but will be pre-ordering and getting new games on PSN as well that I know that I will be all in on. A few reasons really. No tax is one, sometimes they offer pre-order discounts even if 10%, I rack up insane amounts of Sony Rewards points making purchases and having my PlayStation CC tied to Sony Rewards, not to mention getting rewards points for earning trophies.

The fact Best Buy cut their rewards points in half 2 years ago, now the GCU thing, it has made it a much easier pill to swallow with PSN purchases. The convenience, while small, of no disc swapping is nice. I have been double dipping on my most favorite games I have on disc with PSN when they have been dirt cheap anyhow for that reason. I have not traded in or sold games in over a decade.

GCU will still be used for certain collector's editions as long as these publishers do not keep pulling the "disc or edition exclusive to GameStop, but you need to find that out yourself doe!"

I regret my digital only purchases if only because the future of BC on a Sony platform isn't likely. But at the same time I have a drawer full of games/boxes and I'm still getting like 2 more games this month lol.

I thought about that as well, but my gut is telling me we will be fine with PS4 to PS5 BC. The Pro was their "test bed" and Cerny also filed a patent for a BC software test method/timing that was recently approved earlier this year. They understand the ecosystem moving forward, and know that is the direction the industry is headed with carrying over content to the next device.

https://patents.google.com/patent/US9892024B2/en?oq=9892024

And like you, I have a shelf of the discs still just in case. Either which way, double dipping in 2018 is now even easier (to me) when these games hit the $10-$15 mark, especially if you were not day one (example, Horizon Complete Edition I just bought on PSN not too long ago for $12) since I have yet to play it due to backlog, lol. And I see the disc version is now cheap as well. So having both is still less than day one in that instance. Everyone has their method though.

I'm not buying it on release. It will be a great game but I'm not very hyped. I was more excited about Spider-Man and I bought it. I will buy this later.

So on topic

I can not put into words how hyped I am for this game.
I think the last time I was that hyped for a videogame was before the release of GTA3 / vice city.
Needless to say that I am a big fan of Rockstar open world games.
I expect nothing less for this game than setting a new standard for the open world setting in terms of immersion.

I recently jumped into 4k (LG OLED C7D) even tho I wanted to wait for hdmi 2.1, just so I can play it in it's full glory comming next month.
I even have both versions (xbox one x and ps4 pro) on pre order so I can directly decide which version I will play. The one x version will prolly have a better resolution but I prefer the PS4 pro as a platform so I will evaluate which version I will play at release.

Also booked a few days off from work and basically counting the days now.
That's how freakin hyped I am :O

That reminds me that I need to take a couple days off for this game. This drops on a Friday and I have kids so my play time on the weekends is limited. A couple days off should give me the time I need to properly binge on it.

I want to be excited, but I'm honestly burnt out on so many huge, open-world. realistic AAA games to the point where even Red Dead isnt doing much for me.

I'll still get it, but my hype level was higher for Octopath Traveler, Dragon Quest XI and eventually Resident Evil 2.

I booked Thursday to Tuesday off. I usually get my games a day early from my dealer. Well like 90% of them... I just hope this won't be an exception.

I'm not hyped. I don't get hyped for games anymore. The only game I can imagine ever getting hyped for would be a Silent Hill remake being done by the original team. I'm looking forward to RDR2. The last one was great. The only worry I have is the single player is going to be really short compared to RDR, there won't be any single player dlc and it'll be stuffed to the gills with microtransactions.

I can definitely understand that. Open-world games tend to make me burn out very fast. But for some reason, RDR never did that to me. I even played around with it the other day on the PS3, and there is something about the world they crafted that sucks you in. Maybe it is due to the environment doing it's thing, and it is not overwhelming with "too much". I can literally stroll around with my horse and take in all the sights and sounds/atmosphere and not even do a single mission.

I personally cannot get into GTA no matter how many times I try to play it, but I get sucked into RDR. I have also noticed I can get AAA fatigue very fast now, thus playing a lot of Indie titles, and solid middleware has done wonders to break that up. Been on an adventure game kick lately, which is a good change of pace in between these releases.

Preordered digitally on the One X. Will be taking the day off to play this and I haven't done that in years.

Has any more details come out with how they plan on handling online? I almost never play online anymore, however, if it is similar/expanded on from the original, I would enjoying rolling around in a posse with friends if things save in a similar fashion to GTA in a "shared" world.

I will get it eventually, I enjoyed RDR, but not enough for me to go rush out and buy the 2nd on launch.

There's a number of other games I want in October too and with time being quite limited these days I have to choose what I play wisely!

However it is on my radar, my friends are getting it, so i'll ask about their opinions on it too, but it should be interesting to see how it turns out eventually.

Super hyped myself! Probably my GOTG if done well. Depends on how TLOU 2 turns out too. Haven't pre-ordered because finances but it will be mine day one for sure.

Missed the boat on this first one, tried to get into it years later and could not. Too many games. Will be getting this one first day.

You nailed it here. RDR doesn't have a ton of bloat in terms of random activities so the world felt more natural and immersive. The random events/encounters helped keep things interesting while rolling around the vast world. Like finding law enforcement officers who need help tracking down a crook, getting ambused, etc. These are key things they're improving on in the sequel too which is great. More of a focus on ambient events and storytelling, rather than filling up the map with garbage icons that are one and done.

I´ll have to wait and get double confirmation that it runs as fast as gtaV, I´m not buying new graphics cards for some time and I´m not that hyped since I never played the first one.

Ps.- Ha, screw it, it´s not coming to PC. :p

This is the only game I am hyped for since Witcher 3. A bit too busy with life these days.. but its always there at the back of my mind.. "Its coming".. thats "hype" for me these days.

That being said, for some reason.. I didnt really got all too excited watching the gameplay trailer for some reason but im damn sure I will love the game. Day 1

Day one digital for me, but I'm well occupied with plenty of other games so the wait feels pretty easy.

I'm actually "Never" #5.

I'm sure I am an outlier here, but after the first few hours of RDR I thought it was boring. It had nice graphics great voice acting and loved the horses, but for me the story was meh, hated all the mini games, especially hated the Mexica segment and don't like Rock Star games in general.
