I don't really care that much about the make-up, I'm far more worried if they're trying to "explain the joker". That's kind of what you want to avoid with the Joker and what TDK did so well in regards to the Joker. The mystery and trickstery is what's needed. Would love if it's attempting something closer to The Killing Joke, but different.

I prefer the traditional look and hope that the traditional look does feature in the movie but I'm impressed by how terrifying he looks.

If this movie does well (critically and commercially) I wonder if DC use this to launch a new cinematic universe? I mean if they have to recast Batman and Superman anyway then why not just start a new cinematic universe?

One of the best thing about DC comics is Batmans rogues gallery, with The Joker arguably being the best of the bunch, so it might be quite fitting and interesting to launch their new cinematic universe with a film about a villain for once (something Marvel hasn't done).

I’ll be interested to see exactly where they go with this. Some people thought Ledger’s “sloppy” joker was heresy. I was honestly skeptical of Ledger as Joker and now it’s one of my favorite performances ever. I could see this working. I’ll withhold judgment.

It is definitely already 1000x better that Leto’s design.

After Jared Leto's hot topic gangster joker, I'm ready for anything. Phoenix is a extremely capable actor and at the very least should give an interesting performance. As others have already pointed out, John Wayne Gacy vibes are strong.

Hey that's a very nice movie. It's schlocky as all hell, but it knows it and plays it straight. Plus the clown dude puts in a very nice maximalist performance. My girlfriend is a big horror movie nerd so I watch a lot of those lol and this one is one of my recent favorites. Simple brainless fun, me likey.

He was legitimely creepy in that diner scene and I don't find clowns particularly creepy by default.

I have complete faith in Phoenix being able to do Joker justice. If other powers that be don't fuck it up for him like they probably did for Leto...

I'm guessing they'll paint Joaquin Phoenix as a genuinely nice guy -- maybe with a temper or a slightly-dark sense of humor -- who ends up in horrible circumstances. That'd be a Joker I would really enjoy watching. So far they don't appear to be trying to make him look menacing.

That movie was very mean spirited and fun(ny) but lost me with the stuff regarding the mime clown towards the end. Overall, not bad watch. 7/10

I haven’t read a lot about this movie but this is one DC project I could see benefiting from the Dead Pool approach and what I mean is go for an R rating and don’t hold back on how much of a psychopath Joker is. Joker is a scary villain and a movie about him should be unnerving in my opinion.

I'm actually surprised that is the final makeup. It doesn't look bad or anything and I think Phoenix will do a great job but I thought they would go for a direct comic translation this time in terms of his look. I'm also surprised that its makeup and that they aren't going for the skin/hair bleached in chemicals approach.... Unless he's a villain dressed as a clown that later becomes permanently disfigured?
