Warcraft 2 and 3 such defining games for me... in a lot of ways, not just gaming haha. I think my interest in economics and industry, even, started at its earliest point playing the demo disc of that WC2 stage 1 map I got from an old PC gamer or something haha. used to spend hours mining and logging the eff out of that little map. setting up patrols even tho there was no real need. it and maybe my first 4x strategy (Romance of the Three Kingdoms on SNES) that shit got me so into industry, logistics, economics, etc haha.
I still remember why WC3 was supposed to be a RPS (Role Playing Strategy, too)... and that original GameSpot preview of it showing the original WC3 art style back when everything was bigger and more realistically proportioned, and it described how your troll hunter could track people, and you'd use it to track humans through a snowy forest or something to ambush their farming base.
game evolved from that of course but the game still had some amazing 'patrols' and 'scouting'.... I think that was really where I loved the story campaign of WC3 so much. a lot of the maps where you didn't just have to defeat an army, but it kinda promoted taking out '4 enemy clans' or investigate farms or defend a caravan as it goes through the forest. kinda like that classic 'defend the Cho'gall caravan' from WC2 too haha WC3 had a lot of maps that were really cool sort of scouts, treks, or patrols through the forests and mountains.
so, to see that that 'reforged' with new art is gonna be awesome for me. oh, I hope they use the assets to do WC2, too ;O
