bought a middle of the road Samsung tv last year since my previous one had a bug under the screen. It isn't life changing but HDR is pretty awesome.

Still happy with a Vizio E50-C1 1080p set I bought two or three years ago, but I'll be looking for a 4K HDR set for another floor this holiday season.

I got a 4k in the living room. I don't game on it often but i did just move my ps4 in there temporarily while my newborn baby is still growing and needs more attention. I don't think it's HDR, but the options on it are kind of confusing honestly...

I usually game downstairs on my 1080 Vizio with VGA INPUT SON!

nope. don't see the point in buying a 4K tv until we get consoles that can do 4K as standard. it's a waste of money right now with the PS4 Pro + XB1X.

even on my PC i don't think I'll be bothering with 4K. it's a waste of money.

Yep, 55 inch Samsung MU7000 (8000 in US). Entry level HDR, nothing special, but all around decent TV. Probably will jump in the OLED wagon with the release of XboxTwo and PS5.

I disagree. 4K gaming on the X and Pro make it well worth the cost. Also, there will be a bunch more great games in 2019, and all of them will benefit from a 4K set.

I say now is a good time to buy in. At least if you have the money. Otherwise, you're stuck playing games with subpar visuals for the next 2 years.

Disagree. I don't think 4K/HDR is a waste of money at all. Visuals on the 1X are outstanding, well worth it. Pro as well, on the Sony exclusives.
As someone who plays on an older 1080, my low end 4k, and my buddy's high end 4k often, I can't say I really see a significant difference worth spending any serious money on. Definitely doesn't improve gameplay in any way, just looks slightly nicer... Not worth the money at all honestly...

Too bad, sounds like your buddy has a crappy set or you didn't spend enough time looking at the differences. I can see them clearly. They make a big difference in visual quality, at least at the right range and size of TV.

Depends on game, of course. Try RDR2, for instance.

oh i have the money but i just don't think it's worth it. why should i drop £400 on an XB1X and £300+ on a 4K tv when i'm not getting 4K in all games? just like the Pro the XB1X uses upscaling/checkerboarding in a lot of games. both consoles are too weak for native 4K in all titles.

i will buy a 4K tv when the PS5/XB2 release. that way i'm not wasting my money.

4k isn't really worth it unless you sit closer or get a much bigger screen. i have a 42" 1080p which suits me fine. to get the same pixels per inch on a 4K i'd need to get an 84" screen.

Nope, just not a big enough difference to even care. I have a crappy set but my buddy's is really great lol, still doesn't make me enjoy games any more...

I have but its not what you would call top of the line 4K TV. I only payed $400 for it.

lmfao make your mind up. "depends on game, of course" yeah no shit. the xb1x can do 4K in some games but not all. rdr2 is 4K but there are plenty of games that run at below 4K and upscale. stop moving the goalposts.

Yep, LG OLED. Amazing pic, but I've only had it for about six or so months and it already has a mild amount of burn in. You can only see it when the screen has a lot of red on it, but it is there and obvious. Called LG to try to see if I could get it fixed and they kept giving me the run-around.

Honestly it doesn't matter to me. 1080 provides all the detail I could ever need to functionally play games. 4k looking slightly better isn't really a big deal to me at all, I'm much more of a framerate guy...

I had an 4K 28" monitor at one point. It was way too small for 4K. I already had a 30 inch 1600p monitor just before and the difference did not feel that big at all going from that to 4K, pretty disappointing. Text was painfully small on the 4K monitor and i often had to squint my eyes to read it. I'm aware that there is a "fix" for that in windows which scales up the size of the text and stuff, but that makes everything look really ugly as a side effect. I ended up just using my 1600p monitor again, planning to sell the 4K soon. Currently using 3 1600p monitors in surround and i love it.

For 4K the best size is between 45 and 50 inches imo, that is if you're sitting pretty close to it. If you are sitting a bit further away like most people do with TV's i recommend going over 60.

BTW a resolution of 3840 x 2160 is technically not 4K. I believe that 4K is officially supposed to be 4096 x 2160.

Hur, good response. Obviously not all games on the X run at 4K. I thought everyone knew that. That's not "moving goalposts," that's pointing out the obvious.

The resolution bump has really only been noticable to me in Blade Runner and Pacific Rim. They're almost completely different movies.

49" KS7000 (aka KS8000 in US) - 4k with 500 nits HDR so pretty solid unit :)

I bough it as temporary TV until I can get VRR, HFR 55" Oled at resonable price.

Nah I'm still using the 1080p TV I purchased 5-ish years ago. 4K is nice, I suppose, but the difference isn't enough for me to upgrade or rebuy everything on another new disc format.

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, by the time my current tv dies we should be gearing up for 8k or some shit anyway.

Sony's last years flagship, the A1.

Best TV I've ever owned. Even one year later movies and games manage to blow me away.

Picked one up 2 yrs ago on boxing day (Canada's equivalent to Black Friday, the day after Christmas) Samsung un50ku6270fxcz, its been great especially with games like Gran Turismo Sport & God of War making more out of HDR.

Definitely recommended.

I have a Samsung 4K TV with HDR. I do almost all of my gaming on a 1440p monitor though. I have a spare bedroom set up as a gaming/DJ room and have a PC, Xbox One X and PS4 Pro hooked up to a 27" Dell monitor.

I'm looking to upgrade to a 4K monitor (30-32" maybe) with HDR and Freesync 2.0, but there doesn't seem to be anything out there that ticks all the boxes yet.

Is this the 2018 version? I'm planning on getting this set on the holidays. Looked good when I went to best buy when they had it on display.

I don't know, it might be the 2017 version, I'm not sure. I bought it Dec 2017, a year ago.

2015 Samsung JU6300 (4K but not HDR, lowish price at the time for a 65" tv. I play a lot of non HDR games on it)
2016 KS8500 (4K, HDR, but edge lit)
Looking at getting a proper full array dimming tv but may wait until next year instead of Black Friday. I had an OLED for a bit to replace the 2015 tv but I sold it to a friend because I was worried about using it with a PC and it was in a room with too many windows.

I sure do. Samsung 55 inch, which I bought when the Pro released. I've since gotten rid of all of my consoles but I still have the TV. Very happy with it.

That's because most 4K movies do not come from an actual 4K source.

yeah and Pacific Rim is only a 2k transfer. That said UHD movies also have HDR so you're still getting something even if the transfer is lower res. Blade Runner transfer was like 6k or something if I'm remembering correctly.
