Took me a bit to find some gameplay footage of the new airplanes in action without some cancerous streamer personality attached. Benign clip below. Looks pretty basic but looking forward to giving it a shot :lollipop_airplane:

Okay, we need to sit down and have a talk about the Infinity Sword resting at Polar Peak.

And by have a talk, I mean you need to go there and pull it out of the ground, and during your five seconds or so of invincibility frames afterwards -- before you crush your enemies and see them driven before you -- flex every muscle in your body and cry out:

I HAVE THE POWERRRRRRR!

For you indeed have the power.

So is save the world going to be available for free before Jan 1st, or are Epic just a bunch of liars? Didn't they say it would be free in 2018? I really wanted to try the save the world mode at one time, and now I barely care anymore, but I'd still like to have the option.

I don't think Save the World was supposed to be free? But it is for you. Check your PMs. :messenger_halo:

STW will not go free in 2018. They mentioned it in a blog a couple months ago.

And wtf does nobody here play Fortnite? Im terrible but I've played thousands of matches. GOTY for me. I think my k/d is like .75 or so lol. I just can't get used to/don't like building.

Yep. Turns out it was supposed to be free sometime in 2018, but it was delayed. https://www.ign.com/articles/2018/10/22/fortnite-save-the-world-free-to-play-delayed-out-of-2018

Fortnite: Battle Royale is so popular that it's easy to forget that Fortnite: Save the World, Epic Games' original vision for the game. The PvE mode was supposed to get some new life by joining in Battle Royale as a free-to-play mode this year, but that move has now been pushed into 2019.

"We decided to move the free-to-play launch of Save the World out of this year," explained Epic in a news post. "We’re working on a broad set of features, reworks, and backend system scaling we believe are needed to go free-to-play. Save the World has grown consistently since our launch in July 2017, and Fortnite overall has experienced unprecedented growth.

"Scaling up for the legions of player heroes who will be joining the fight is key to providing an excellent experience. This applies to all of our players, old and new, so we’re taking the time to get this right."

So it would seem Epic is kind of paying the price for their own success. Fortnite is absolutely massive right now, and they probably don't want to release the PVE game for free, until they feel it's going to get almost universal praise from fans and be properly monetized.

As far as the Battle Royale mode goes, I don't like building either, which is why I prefer Blackout. I especially dislike trying to get comfortable with the build controls while being shot at in a Battle Royale environment. That new creation mode could help players with that aspect of things, though. It should be a good addition to the game.

I’m not a big fan of the infinite sword, Or at least in TDM when it makes you lose all your weapons and you have nothing if you die and respawn. And after a ten second stalemate of dodges swings and and jumps, I’ve only managed one kill with it.

It is fun tearing down tilted with it though. And I get the concept, it’s basically thanos without the beam attack.

I have been hooked on STW like crack for the last few months. I hope you enjoy it. It is a pure grind but very satisfying when you understand the different ways to upgrade your character, change their perks, etc. You should find it much easier to learn the ins and outs than anyone who started playing several months ago. They recently revamped the user interface and made changes to research that teach you what to do far better than the original system.

You are not wrong that they want to delay the launch until they finish some design changes. They have been very open about that. But conversely, IMO at least, they have been extremely respectful of the early access expenditures and making sure you won't feel screwed by paying for early access later. When they changed systems recently they made sure no one lost progress - even if you are not at the level for unlocks in the new system you keep the old unlocks intact, and as far as I know no one was negatively impacted on progress from the change. And their new hero system (release TBD) sounds like it will leave the early access players in great shape when the new people come in from FTP. Sounds like hero perks will be based less on your primary and more on secondary slots. So those of us who have a deep bench of heroes will be sitting pretty, and they promised that anyone who leveled up a hero can refund all xp spent when the new system drops to make sure you get the full benefit of prior play time under new system.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a hard mode PVP where you use hero / hero stats from Save the World some day. With the money they are pulling in who knows what they will do. This game is not a graphical beast, but looks good for what it is, and is darn fun. It boggles my mind how little discussion it seems to get from gaming enthusiasts outside the press. To me this game is the epitome of how to monetize a game, make a ton of money, and not screw anyone over. Even STW - you will be surprised how much free Vbucks you can earn to spend in either mode by early access. And I am talking from regular play and not farming.

I'm not a big fan of STW. The grind is insane. You get 13 pages of things to accomplish, but it's all really boring things like "click on four of these things in a 28 or higher zone". It just goes on forever without getting any more interesting or challenging. And the majority of challenges are tower defense things where you can get absolutely screwed by other players dropping out or not paying attention or flat out trolling. Recently, I've seen players go into rescue missions and activate all the survivor attacks so they get killed before the other players can rescue them. Also, the whole level up system of getting civilians and filling in slots is awful. At least they got rid of that terrible upgrade tree.

Frankly, I'm afraid that if they made STW free to play, the level of abandonment and trolling would increase, and it is already at a game ruining level.

There's a lot of potential to STW, and I've had fun in it when everything go well (which isn't most of the time), but they really need to make substantive changes to the game. My wife loves the game (she's a skinner box connoisseur, she likes checkboxes in a vaguely erotic way that is completely incomprehensible to me), so she just plays my account to get the dailies - then I use the V-Bucks for Battle Royale skins.

I'm enjoying Season 7 of BR though. The zip lines are great, the snow area is great (I like the frozen underwater Greasy), though I think the planes are getting a bit old (there's no incentive to shoot them down when the player inside just parachutes out safely, and it is difficult to hit players on land, so they just fly around without doing anything). I also miss Risky.

Everyone likes what they like, so if the grind isn't for you I can completely understand not liking the mode. The mode as of now is for people who love the incremental grind. But the trolling thing - have you played in the last couple of months? Not sure of the date but fairly recently they imposed / started enforcing a minimum power level to enter a game in public matches. So in public matches the issues caused by taxiing have been removed. No more useless players who actually try but can't keep up due to levels, and no more power level 2-40 below recommended sitting there doing nothing in hopes of getting end round rewards. And no more 30 tier under powered players begging for guns. As someone who plays a lot, things have improved big time. Honestly - I think I deal with a troll less than 1 out of 3 days I play now.

I haven't played recently, no. I do watch my wife play and I have definitely noticed that the number of morons jumping into a game, begging for guns, then dropping out while you are single handedly trying to defend the bus has dropped a lot. But the trolls activating the survivor encounters is a fairly recently thing, and there's still a problem with people dropping out of missions or going AFK in a corner not helping. It has improved, considerably so, but doesn't change the fact that it is EXTREMELY frustrating to be at the mercy of trolls and morons. I don't need that kind of annoyance in my gaming time.

I'd like to see STW implement more missions types. The majority of missions are defend the base types, but the survivor missions is more exploratory and the build the radar dish ones are building orientated. The defend the base missions usually require a full set of players (or an inordinate amount of traps), which is why when I played, I usually stuck to survivor/radar missions that I could accomplish even if everyone else dropped out (which at the time, was 4 out 5 missions). Some of the meta-missions (like finding all the landmarks in Hexsylvania) are cool, but at the end of the day, you are sitting with your back against a wall shooting a near endless wave of enemies to win.

Teams of 33 is pretty intense.

So... Big event dropping tomorrow?

Hope I can finish it all before I go to the States on the 30th.
There's limited modes everyday I think. And 14 presents to get by completing things. The one for today was to start or join a creative server. Think you can get them any time as long as they're unlocked though.

The planes are really helpful for those stupid visit X and Y in one match dailies... and for squad dailies if you're a loner like me.

And today the challenge is to play 3 matches with a friend :messenger_neutral:
I have like 30 people that added me and none of them speak english. My game crashes a lot some days and they probably think I abandon them :messenger_loudly_crying:

It's easy to dismiss Fortnite BR as a F2P fad, but there's such a solid game there that it's hard to believe Epic is just giving it away. They're constantly working on it to improve the experience in terms of graphics, gameplay and QoL. They keep it fresh every season by changing just a few parts of the map so that it feels new and yet familiar at the same time. They're constantly introducing new weapons and vehicles while checking to see if they don't break the balance of the game. Also they're not greedy when it comes to the battlepass as once you buy it once you'll pretty much always be able to earn enough vbucks to get next season's battlepass free. Also getting to tier 100 is fairly easy even if you don't play much, in fact just completing the daily and weekly challenges and doing nothing else will be enough to reach tier 100.

At the end of the day it's just a fun game solo or with friends, my only gripe is the lack of a trio mode because i often play with 2 friends and in squad mode we're obviously at a disadvantage compared to 4 man squads. We still manage to win here and there mind you, but it's just frustrating.

I also like all the other modes they introduced like 50v50, disco, Team rumble, etc.. it's a nice change of pace when you want to take it easy and just have fun, do challenges or try stuff out.

I haven't had a chance to Try Save The World yet so I can't really speak to that, but I definitely will once it goes F2P.

Keep up the good work Epic, you've done well.

Does anyone need a Season 7 victory royale umbrella? If so I can help (I'm not very good normally but am good enough to help get a win in the score royale LTM).

Message me and we can join up and get it. You only need to be competent at best and know where chests/ammo boxes are and collect the coins. No need to get kills.

Is this the sort of multiplayer game where you have to be playing with a squad to enjoy it to its fullest? I enjoyed Tribes 2 way back in the day.

Oh shit, sick burrrn. Nah, I played it for all but 20 minutes last year. Wasn't my thing.

Most online shooters are not for me anymore. Maybe Raven Shield if it made a comeback gameplay wise/style (more realistic/methodical).

I can see it's draw for various other reasons. When I tried it out it was the 50 vs 50 team game setup.

Well, it's an excellent OT in either case.

RIP grappler and port a fortress. It's like epic is trying their hardest to make this game as unfun as possible. What's next zombies in all the regular modes? LOL.

What are the best Fortnite streams to watch (that aren't Ninja) for tips?

How about just straight up entertaining or unique?
