Jason Reitman To Direct “Ghostbusters 3”

Didn't like the reboot but this sounds much better with at least keeping it all connected.

Jason Reitman, whose father Ivan directed the first two original “Ghostbusters” films, will reportedly direct the next installment in the franchise at Sony Pictures.

EW had even more including quotes from Jason Reitman who says: “I’ve always thought of myself as the first Ghostbusters fan, when I was a 6-year-old visiting the set. I wanted to make a movie for all the other fans. This is the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot. What happened in the ‘80s happened in the ‘80s, and this is set in the present day.”

It’s not clear at present if or how many of the original cast members will be back as further story details are under wraps.

Great job on doing a sequel after the reboot nobody asked for and now one of the main cast is dead. Real nice work.

Yeah without Egon it’s not gonna be the same. Bill Murray has been pretty clear he doesn’t want to do it before. Wonder if that changed.

Why? They can make this the sequel that Ghostbusters 2 actually deserved and pretend that the reboot never happened. Also, less chance of the reboot getting a sequel if this happens.

I’m torn. I want a sequel but it seems a bit late to do it. This should have happened in the 90s.

The game was good and had plenty of awesome things to it but a redemption to the 2nd movie would be awesome.

I’m also good with letting it go. Just like Back to the future. Just let good things be.

But they already screwed it up with that reboot.

Uh-oh guess we didn't get over it!

I think they could replace Egon to some extent with Ray, say with Egon having trained Ray/"accidentally" lobotomized him and made him smarter and also more eccentric to match modern Aykryod.

I think Murray would be terrible, though. Murray was bored as fuck in the video game, and I think RLM got it right that he refused to do his scene in 2016 unless he could be seated.

There just aren't the comedic legends to help bring this thing together. Ok Neal Brennan could probably make a good Egon, Dave Chappelle for Winston after them I can't think of anybody.

The reboot fucking sucked. I actually liked the cast. For me the cast was not the problem. It just wasn’t funny.

Basically just modified fart jokes and stupid ass CGI sequences that were as exciting as a day old bagel.

I liked the cast too. It's a shame they were given such a bad movie to work with.

I didn't like the cast.
They didn't really come across as 'Smart' yet the blonde girl could build all sorts of things without any explanation whatsoever.
The cast also weren't very good at delivering on the humour aspects and overall they were just kind of boring to watch.

They could replace the dead/missing cast members from the actors from the cartoon

Peter Venkman would be Dave Coulier, Maurice LaMarche as Egon

I'm skeptical. Don't see the point without Ramis. He was the heart of every project he was involved in.

The only way that can work is by completely changing it. New cast, different tone, I just don’t think anything is left in the classic Ghostbuster movie even with the original cast.

If they could pull what they did with Jumanji off... might actually be ok. Only time will tell. I hear a certain other forrum was having a meltdown that this might not have an all female cast!

Eh, I just don't see how it could be good. If it has some kind of amazing script and is directed perfectly, even then it would have a hard time feeling justified. Comedy sequels that come out decades later never seem to pan out.

And if they aren't getting the original cast, or the original cast is passing the torch, what will we have? A comedy starring The Rock and Kevin Hart? Another movie with Chris Pratt crowbarred into it? What direction would they take this in?

Personally I think this is great news! A dream come true in fact.

I trust Jason Reitman to make a movie far, far better than the remake.

Yes, it's a real shame Harold Ramis is no longer with us, but there's still a ton of potential to Ghostbusters, to that whole world.

I mean wow, this is exciting.

if this... MUST be done, I will only be interested if it's Murray, Ackroyd, Hudson, and Moranis (and I guess Weaver) all cast once more, and the end boss is an evil CG Phantom Ramis! Make it so!

If it's about the kids taking up the job I don't see why some of them (I would opt for Ray) couldn't have had daughters.

I am not opposed to a female buster or two. I just want a good script,a funny movie, a decent goddamn sequel.

They need to open up the auditions to everyone, regardless of gender or race or age. Choose the funniest of the lot. If they restrict auditions to a certain demographic, and try to push some kind of agenda beyond "we want to make people laugh", it'll fail just like the last movie.

GB2 has its flaws but it's still a perfectly acceptable sequel, I've never understood people that say it's a bad movie.

When it became clear the reboot sucked GB2 was used as a tool to bash. People who are butt hurt that the reboot failed attack GB2 for that reason.

Though what I'm worried about now is if the leads are male then much of the liberal media will start bashing it before it's even out. I honestly wouldn't put it past them.

Cool the reboot was so bad. Lazy humour and bad jokes. The Chinese food gag was so lame. They have all these funny ladies and yet the humour is all improv level jokes, maybe next time take a few passes at these jokes

The copying everything from the first movie that everything does nowadays, I knew that would happen, which is why I didn’t pay to see this movie. Maybe give it to this guy. Tbh there is so reason why the son of the of director would be any good at making a film but they might as well try something. The last film was just bad.

I don't expect anything from it though, just like I don't expect anything from Star Wars or Jurassic Park or whatever remade rehashed retro frankenstein's monster of nostalgia companies want to sell to me.

The original movies worked because they were special, they were of a time and a place, they had a chemistry through the cast, they were made at a specific point in film history, etc. You cannot catch lightning in a bottle again, and trying to over and over again is just pathetic.
