And they've already started pushing fake news.

https://archive.fo/npTqj

Except... if you actually look at the page, there are bunch of 5 star ratings and a single 3.5 rating.

https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/captain_marvel/reviews/?page=6&type=user

This is an amazing and hilarious marketing strategy.

Used to be that movies would come out with snippets of good reviews.
You know, "it's a fun-filled romp for all the family, 5 out of 5".
You just knew though that a lot of the magazines and websites were corporate shills but positive buzz could still get you interested.
I'm sure it put a fair few bums in seats at the end of the day.

Now, it's like a strange opposite.
"Only Russian bots hate this movie!"
"Negative reviews are just Alt-Right trolls."
"Misogynists gave this 2 out of 5 stars, don't believe them."

It just seems like a crazy and toxic way to try and market your product.

I could see the point if they were in competition with something else, almost.
Like, "Sega does what Nintendon't". It's funny and there's a logic to it.

Surely this style of promotion doesn't do much for the movie?

Or is there really a market out there that will buy tickets for something if you successfully convince them that it makes "trolls" and "manbabies" mad?

I wasn't going to see the movie but then I heard trolls are mad online so I will spend 20 bucks to spite the trolls! Haha!
Is that a real thing?

yes i've noticed it too. there has to be a name for it. Hate Marketing? Schaudenfreude Marketing? when you market by saying "Buy this, your enemies will hate it!" it's the tactic they used for Ghostbusters.

"see this movie, it will upset the manbabies, who are really a tiny insignificant minority that has no power unless we need to invoke them for marketing of course..."

tbh it's kind of a new thing in marketing. the old school genuine "Here is our product & how your life can be better with it" died out in the 80s or so. 90s Gen Xers were much more anti-capitalist, so out of that came ironic ads, the anti-ad ad, Ad-Busters, purposefully cheesy ads, the Tim & Eric aesthetic, etc. it sells the product sort of like the old way but with a heavy dose of irony and awareness. also see shameless shilling. when ads are just making fun of other ads, it's easy to see how empty the whole experience is.

people are slowly starting to wake up to the emptiness of consumerism (the way everyone naively says "late capitalism" kind of hints at that). what's more, it's socially acceptable to say so. which is why social justice marketing is such a big thing. it helps corporations define that social space. it makes consuming MEANINGFUL again. this is what has been missing. meaning. now when you buy your toilet paper, you are sticking it to the man!

It seems to me like the movie itself isn’t even centered around SJW propaganda, yet Brie herself seems to be taking a voluntary and unnecessary antagonistic approach to her promotion of it.

Did Wonder Woman cast do anything like this?

It's not just Brie but the ads to the movie. The superbowl ad, the other ad with a her o, etc
.

I think I've heard she's going to be the strongest avenger, and potentially
a deus ex machina that easily beats Thanos when all the other avengers fail.

Does that mean as a white male I'm not allowed to see it? I almost got into a fight during the opening night of Black Panther because I was being accosted by a black male who claimed that as a white man who bought a ticket I was taking up a spot that could have gone to someone black and I guess more deserving. I never had this kind of shit happen with either of the first two Blade films. I just like comics and comic related media. I just wanted to watch a superhero movie :(

2019 is a fucked up time to be a human being. I'm so sick of everything, and luckily since I don't use twitter/IG or basically any social media stuff I avoid a good amount of the crazy. But to try and tell you you are less deserving of seeing a movie cause of your race, is well racist. I won't be seeing CM, but that's because A)I don't care about the character and B}Bries insane hatred of white males and making this a SJW thing heavily annoys me.

The irony in all of this, is this shit is the side effect of extremely privileged societies as a whole, regardless of "race".

And the wealth at the top stealing everyone's money, sit back and watch us peasants fight amongst ourselves as they reap all the benefits, ironically in their gated and segregated by class communities.

Seems like vapid virtue signaling. If she really cared about this she would say she makes sure that plenty of critics of color and women are on the press tour and promote her interviews with them. Framing it not as pro-something, but against white males sets it up as negative feeling and a stunt to seem woke.

But it's the very definition of woke to behave as you describe.

Manbabies the thread.

I don't have a problem with what she said, but how is she going to get more representation I wonder.

You’re like that guy that can’t play basketball and loses pickup games, then when he gets clowned starts making outlandish bets he can beat guys one on one.

Did Wonder Woman cast do anything like this?

I don't think so. I remember a lot of what people might call "SJW" or "Feminist" buzz around Wonder Woman but generally it felt like there was a lot of positive hype around that movie too. That could be down to DC fans just wanting the movie to do well.

It seems like a risky tactic. Wonder Woman did great box office and so did Aquaman.
I think Black Panther is the biggest Marvel movie ever in terms of box office?

Especially since BP and WW had a real sense of "this movie is about inclusion" surrounding them and I think, in general, people are more willing to support that. Even though you still had some dipshits trying to do "woman only" screenings or trying to say "this isn't a movie for white people" the studios and the cast seemed very much like "we've made something great and a bit different from the rest of the genre and you should all support it".

Here, you've got the main cast member adopting an attitude that is almost one of exclusion.
Wonder Woman already did the "finally we have a female superhero" thing and knocked it out of the park.

Captain Marvel missed that boat but they are still trying and doing it wrong, in my opinion.
It's sad because I think Black Widow should have been given the first Marvel top billing.
Instead we have to pretend like Marvel doesn't already have some great female characters.

I guess we have to wait and see how the movie performs.

No one likes to know how the game is really played. Or no one likes to hear to truth. Go away /s

I'm going to go see it because I like marvel movies. Piss off to this whole controversial bullshit. Why can't people just enjoy things?

Because of all the "good intentions" that were pushed when they decided to make this movie? /s

Well, on a positive note, the tweetstorm following early screenings is positive. Sounds like what I expect, a solid, 90's inspired action flick.

Of course those early screening have positive reviews. The Last Jedi was no different, i.e. Disney/Marvel only give access to people who'll be entirely aboard the hype train & play a central role in manipulating the "word of mouth" marketing. No doubt it'll get a 90%+ RT score as well.

Disney don't just want us to "enjoy things", they want us to get with the agenda & embrace their politics as well. It would be very naïve to believe otherwise. They're the ones who're stirring the pot & creating controversy.

Well when people are trying to sell you something and more or less call you a cunt, you kind of lose interest in what they are peddling.

Insert any other race or <ethnicity> woman and you'd be called a racist/sexist. Call this racist/sexist and you'll be given a lecture about that reverse bigotry isn't "real" and being antagonistic/exclusionary like this is OK.

A studio just to fuck with people should make a official trailer for a superhero movie with a male lead saying A HE-RO... and see how sjws go nuts, lmao.

But they already do?
Re-read the original quote. From the way she made it sound, that wasn't the case and I don't see a reason for her to bullshit other than PR points.
“About a year ago, I started paying attention to what my press days looked like and the critics reviewing movies, and noticed
it appeared to be overwhelmingly white male,” Larson said when asked about her reasons for choosing Brown as her interviewer. “So, I spoke to
Dr. Stacy Smith at the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative, who put together a study to confirm that. Moving forward, I decided to make sure my press days were more inclusive. After speaking with you, the film critic Valerie Complex and a few other women of color, it sounded like across the board they weren’t getting the same opportunities as others. When I talked to the facilities that weren’t providing it, they all had different excuses.”

She said she feels like they're getting less opportunities because she has less colored people interviewing her than white people, she didn't actually prove it, it just sounds like it.
Maybe there's just more white reporters than black reporters, maybe black reporters just don't find her all that interesting

More specifically more white male reporters than female in general. I feel like she made a fair statement, honestly.

That was incredibly stupid. A lot of black folks came to the theater I was in dressed in Kente cloth or something similar and NO ONE made a fuss that it was almost exactly half black and half everyone else in the theater to see BP. I saw white folks, Asians, Latinos and black folks ALL clapping when the last end credits scene aired. It was a wonderful experience! Same happened with BlackkKlansman ... But then it was mostly white folks there and AGAIN clapping at the end.

That dude should be ashamed of himself for treating you like that!

This is amazing for her to do this. I'll probably see the movie 2 times now, just because she said this publically.

Why use a MLK quote when you don't even agree with his message?

But they already do?

It looks like they didn't. She just said it in that interview. Can you not read well? She had to get people involved to diversify the interviewers.

I am amazed people fall for this.

The only people who see early screening are fanboys and literally employees of the studios who make the film. Of course they will be positive.

I'm proud that Brie did this. I hope she doesn't let certain people on Twitter make her feel bad about this. She doesn't need to defend her actions on this one at all.

Gonna see the movie to know her origin ,where she has been all this time and to understand her position in Endgame more.

Going into Endgame without seeing Captain Marvel will be a bit difficulty I think.

Also very excited to see the differenced between Anna and Ryans take on Carol and the Russos take on her.

LMAO. It's a fucking kids movie dude.

People are not allowed to see a movie more than once if it's a kids movie?

I never see movies more than once in cinema, but there are people who do because they like the movie so much.

See it all you want idc. This movie is nothing like Con Air, The Rock, Speed etc. It's a comic book superhero movie aimed towards kids not some throwback to 90s acton movies.
