Xbox One news: "BIG" Xbox update would be "bad news" for Sony’s PS4 console.

Regardless of what anyone here thinks on Sonygaf, and as dumb as this source is...If MS makes Xbox a platform, hooks up with Nintendo, and pushes game pass, Xcloud and all of its new studio’s games to Switch, Xbox, PC and mobile...Sony’s plastic box numbers won’t mean anything any more. MS is already almost out of the “classic console” race anyways. They are interested in revenue streams and MAUs only ever since Sony ate their box lunch this gen.

This is all a big “if” but all signs have been pointing that way for years now.

What would none-Xbox gamers miss out on, really?
Those few mediocre Xbox exclusives?

Most people only buy one console, PS4 in this case.
Those people wouldn't play any Xbox nor Nintendo game anyway, so what devastating effect would xbox streaming on Switch have, really?

People are slowly getting caught up in PR-hype yet again, while Sony can just continue what they're doing and be fine.

Looks like my old prediction of Microsoft switching Xbox to being service to quietly withdraw from console market without totally losing face is getting fulfilled.

Assuming you can stream all Microsoft first party games and some third party ones to Switch - this will Switch only gamers will have three choices:

- buy Microsoft console - which gives them just the missing third parties
- buy Sony console - getting them all missing third parties and Sony first party games
- don't buy anything else and just play what is available to them

So Microsoft will successfully remove any need for people to buy their consoles while making Sony most obvious option for people who want more.

Point is that Sony won’t matter and probably already doesn’t matter to MS. Console warring at this point is just a childish exercise if you actually look at what is happening. Everyone on one side is focused on the phenomena that the PS4 and it’s exclusives are while discounting everything else that has been happening. MS lost hard in the plastic box race, but bailed on that as the centerpiece of their attack a few years ago like I said. No one should be saying that Sony is doomed, but their fans are fighting a war with no one on the other side these days. It’s like Sony and MS were fighting for world dominance, but then MS decided to just move to the moon and populate Mercury and Mars too...

Or it's not being fulfilled since Xbox is comong out with two new consoles?

When did Microsoft start making threats, predictions and shots fired? VR is starting to get more established for SONY and I’m going to miss Miscrosoft if they stop making consoles *ends hot take*

In general i do like how this forum has turned out but sometimes i miss how threads with trashy clickbait articles like this one would have been locked almost instantly in the old forum.

That web-site/article source is click bait central. I read one of their articles like a month or two ago and their bullshit keeps popping up on my phones news feed. Annoying as hell. They always have these outlandish headlines and then the actual content is "Meh".

Just as they are about to announce 2 new consoles?, at least 2 new consoles.
Xbox is more of a service now though, a service on the Xbox console, PC, mobile, maybe Switch. They still need people to buy the consoles to push all the extra services, and Live etc. Its just that now raw console numbers are not as important (except to fanboy wars).

Who lives on the moon, mercury or mars to buy it though? :messenger_winking_tongue:

Console warring at this point is just a childish exercise

This has been the case since a kid in my grade 5 class said his Sega was better than my Nintendo. It's never going to stop and it doesn't only apply to video game consoles.

Try telling a Mustang owner that a Camaro is good. Enjoy the never ending argument about OHC vs pushrod, visibility, styling, pricing, sales, etc. Despite being very similar and very comparable in almost every way, one party will argue that the other car is absolute dogshit and was never any good. The party with higher numbers "wins" and the other side goes into defence, constantly trying to show why they've made the better choice and that the more popular car shouldn't be more popular.

Sony mopped up this gen, and are in a good position for the next run. Mattrick jammed a stick in the spokes before the race even started, then drove the brand off a cliff. Despite deploying the Spencer-chute, not enough was done quickly enough to avoid the crash. A new series of hardware brings with it a potential to shift the customer base but I think there is already enough happy people with PS4 that will stick with the brand. If Microsoft can pull off all the right moves they stand a chance to open a new market and do well in it, but I have a feeling that in the console space Sony will keep their lead through the next gen.

I like my Xbox or at least, I like the games on it. I would rather play them all on my PC which was made to play games at their best than use a budget constrained box. I would also like to play Sony's offerings on my PC but one is far more likely to happen. I'll put my money behind whoever can provide that to me next gen. Nintendo got my money the second I realized I could put the whole works in my lunch bag. If Xbox as a service means Xbox games turn up on all my devices and I actually can play my games anywhere, they'll be getting a lot more from me than they would trapped in a box under my TV.

Is it me or a lot of these Microsoft articles are kind of delusional and nonsensical? They are a little too optimistic. Catching up now would be near impossible even if the PS4 stopped selling for the next 3 years and I don’t think their gamepass strategy are going to do Microsoft any favors either in pushing hardware.

I really miss the times when the internet rumors were limited, may be like PS1-->PS2 or PS2-->PS3 era, so the lanching would completely blow my mind.

The 2 new Xboxes will be able to run PC games in addition to Xbox games. Game pass will work on both as well. One huge ecosystem to sell digital games, tv, movies, music,etc....it's all good. And Nintendo will be along for the ride! Life is good

Another paid article proclaiming the power of the cloud. As if gamers would give two fucks about the cloud.

Does the writter know that PS Now even exist?

All Xbox Scarlett games will be on PC, not vice-versa. Xbox games may be on Switch. Nintendo games will not be on Xbox.

Ms is giving more and more reasons to not buy the next Xbox.

If MS release their console earlier than the ps5 they are dead .
The one X is more powerful than the pro and it did nothing . Releasing a more powerful console isn't the solution to MS success. This is just giving Sony the chance they want to create a more powerful console few months later and it's PS4 vs Xbox one all over again .

Also this article is a joke

In the land of dreams, Microsoft sat down with Gabe, pushed a briefcase across the table full of sugary snacks, and Steam was merged with the Microsoft brand. "Steam on Xbox confirmed" the article read, "Sony fearing for it's life" headlined another. Soon after, Doug Bowser proved true to his name, kidnapping all the leading members of Nintendo of Japan. To begin his reign he announces that the Switch will be rebranded as the Xbox Mini and that going forward all Nintendo games will be cross-platform on Game Pass. Upon hearing this news, Sony filled a tub and sat in it with a toaster. Xbox had won the war, Sony was defeated and Nintendo was but a mere vessel of their mighty empire. Phi Spencer tweets "Congrats PlayStation on not pussing out, tub-toastering is tough, well done". E3 2020 rolled around and Phil Spencer flew onto the stage, carried by angels. After a short speech, the room went dark and on the screen read "Xbox Exclusive!". This line was repeated for over two hours. The Last of Us, Uncharted, God of War, all now properties saved by Microsoft in the chaos that followed Sony's bitter defeat. As the presentation rolled to a close, Phil Spencer grabbed his neck and pulled back to reveal IT WAS FUCKING DON MATTRICK ALL ALONG! KINECT 3 CONFIRMED PACK IN WITH XBOX INFINITE! $750!

Fair enough, that's another way of looking at it.

Although, if MS goes that way, they effectively completed their original Xbox One plans.
Pretty funny how people seem to overlook that fact.

Do we really have to resort to clickbait titles on NeoGAF... even if it‘s the articles title, does it hurt to phrase it properly on here?

The interesting part here is that MS might kickstart next gen power race early to derail Sony.

There’s no doubt an XB1-2 would effect ongoing sales of the PS4 just by virtue of being a new major console.

As people have said, it’s too late to reverse this gen now. Sony has come out on top and that’s that.

Next gen is interesting because, for me at least, I can’t think of a single reason to buy the next XB. The XB1 has been so dissapointing to me. MS’s strategy isn’t aimed at me and I literally turn it on to download my Gold games.

For MS to revert that trend in me would require some seriously good exclusive FP SP games.

I mean of course if Banjo Kazooie 3 was a release game, it would be a day one buy. But that’s not happening and MS just seem to have lost that connection with me as an audience. Almost nothing they’re doing at the moment excites me. A far cry from the amazing XB360 days.

... sure, at that point they become another third party publisher selling a game streaming platform which may even end up on a Sony console of the future too (I am sure millions of Xbox One fans will put pressure on MS and Sony like they do about EA Access and crossplay ;)).

I am not seeing the classic console model destroyed until worldwide streaming becoming indistinguishable from local play and we have sorted out latency, bandwidth, and ownership problems. iPhones are not selling much more than they are now if you had Xbox service on it (let’s see how long Apple would allow such a service to compete with Game Center ;)) nor would Switch with a purely streaming based solution... PS Vita had it and it did not move the needle much (PSNow and Remote Play).

I do not see streaming (Xcloud and PSNow) that ubiquitous to make a difference. Would MS make money on something that is not traditional consoles? As a shareholder one would be happy as much as the money they make on Windows, Office, Azure, etc... another service.

Take Article Title with caution

Xbox-One-Sony-Ps4-news-1094927.jpg

-All Red colored edits in the quotes from OP.-

So, this writer basically talks about all the rumors that have been going around while speculating that it will make the PS4 doomed, and make it so the Switch "doesn't" outsell the PS4 this year.

So what do you think of all the rumors so far? Do you think it will help the Xbox Brand? Do you think the results could cause the Switch not to outsell the PS4 this year? Is this "bad news" for the PS4?

my guess, a 7nm xb1x -> smaller and cheaper. That might be the only thing that is released in 2019. Sony could do the same with PS4 Pro and get finally out a near silent version.
A new console in 2019 is just to soon and won't sell that much.
If MS would release a new xbox, it would be the fastest console on the marked, for sure, but than next year sony (and they have far better marketing) would release an even faster console.

At this stage of the gen, the R&D cost of a 7nm jaguar redesign would be greater than the sales profit.

MS is starting to make the right moves for success in Europe, renaming Microsoft studios to Xbox studios was the smartest thing they did, and it would should have been done years ago! The more Xbox distances itself from Microsoft name, the better chances it will have in Europe.

Yeah, too bad it is still owned by microsoft.
Looking at what has happened in the last years, maybe it really would have been better if xbox had been sold off, instead of becoming this thing that is today.

Even being a fan of both Xbox and PlayStation, I find these threads sort of amusing because of the reactions they get.

Same with the Kojima/DS threads and (insertrandomxboxoneexclusive) review threads.

Still Gaf can only take so much before we implode ourselves into a supernova.

Posting a new thread every 15 minutes as well.

V Voost Kain , are you alright?

Meh.

Everyone who stayed with Sony knows Sony will deliver games.
MS can do whatever gimmick they want. Nobody who loves games will switch from Sony to Xbox.

The generation is done Voost, there's nothing more that MS can do. If anything, I think MS has saturated the number of persons willing to invest in their eco-system to a great degree.......They said XBONEX hardware was what they needed, NO, didn't work....XBOX sales are at an all time low and it will fall even further ebbed on by their numerous failed exclusives...Just too many dominoes falling one after the other.....It's stops any momentum they could have dead in it's tracks..

The hype you see, is just from MS affiliates and fans to keep people talking about XBOX, to keep XBOX fans hyped, trying to keep XBOX relevant in people's heads after a whole generation of misgivings....And it only comes off as that famous general from IRAQ saying everything is ok, we are crussssssssssssssssshing these guys or we will "whilst bombs kept decimating everything 10 feet behind him"....

All of this hype is to do one thing, it's to try to keep the few XBOX fans they have left on there, keep them hyped and ready to to believe in the next great thing or hype train from MS.....It's to tell them not to lose faith etc....So it's all talk about "We have this coming, we have that coming, it will blow yours socks off....Sony is in trouble et al"......You believe or you don't....
