If it's a buyout, what good is it going to do to MS? Sega hasn't made a game that a lot of people would care enough to buy.
There's value in the IPs and developer capabilities. Also owning Sega Sammy would allow them to launch Xbox Two (or relaunch Xbox One) in Japan with local market credibility. Plus I'd like to see Rare have a crack at doing a 3D Sonic game. But there's been no actual talk of Microsoft buying Sega Sammy, I was just throwing it out there for fun.

Real talk, I reckon Sega will announce its games are joining Game Pass, with Xbox One being its exclusive subscription home.

Michelangelo painted the Sistine Chapel. Yabuki turned off voice chat in Mario Kart races. True artists of their time.
We're getting the Sega Xbox ala the Nintendo PlayStation (that never was).

Interesting to see if anything comes out of this. Given that a whole lot of nothing came out of that VF5 stream, maybe MS funding VF6 will be the only way we can get it.

SEGA worth more likely 5 billions.

No way Microsoft must buy SEGA cause they will kill a legend of video games with godlike and mythical IPs.
Okay it's not worth 5 billion. We can figure out the exact value of Sega Sammy from its shares. It's valued at $2.469B as of today.

But even if it was $5 billion, that isn't an issue. Microsoft has $120B that it needs to use up this year in mergers and acquisitions. That's why people speculate they'll buy EA for $50B.

This buyout talk is pretty ridiculous. It's either a small tease for an Xbox exclusive game or nothing substantial at all.

...probably vanquish 2 as an xbox one exklusive... probably not from platinum games, cause they're burned after the scalebound chaos LOL

Most of the BC is not really done by the discs. It is done via emulation. That is why even when you have a disc you have to download the game still. The disc is actually worthless in the process. It is just used to verify your license for it because you didn't buy it online.

DC emulation could easily be done. In fact, all of Sega's past titles from gebesis to DC could be done easily. But, you have to remember Sega itself does not own all the games. A lot of companies that made them could even be bankrupt by this point or not willing to make them bc.

I would love to see achievements added to Xbox original games and if they added Sega bc to add achievements to those. I would definitely love to 100% some shining force.

I know, but the discs still have to be identified in order to verify the game. The dreamcast used those GB-ROMs or whatever they were called.

Certainly not Sega Saturn. Even today's emulation is far from being perfect, and you don't sell games that are not perfectly emulated to your consumers.

Microsoft is a software company. If they can get xbox 360 and OG xbox games running on the XBO's x86 architecture via emulation, i dont see why they cant fiddle around to get saturn games on the xbo even if just as ports

Where did you hear they have to spend $120b?

Microsoft bankrolling some new games from classic Sega IP would be ace. Plus some remasters or emulated stuff.

Would be a good way to pad their line up with some different style games.

Over a twitter post, yeah, but in general: nope. Microsoft have a lot of cash to start throwing around and I think they'll start using it soon.

It officially has $132B in cash reserves. Unless it pays it out as dividends (which is unlikely), it needs to spend some of it, otherwise it'll be seen as hoarding cash for no reason other than for a rainy day.

That shit annoys shareholders because if the money isn't being used to grow the business, it should be given to shareholders.

I'm hoping this is confirmation of Panzer Dragoon Saga and Shining Force III (all three chapters) getting HD remasters. It's criminal how some of the best Saturn games have been left languishing in the dustbin of history, especially when Nights got a HD upconversion.

Or better yet, Microsoft buys Sega outright and announces a JSRF sequel, Panzer Dragoon Saga sequel, and Shining Force IV.

You won't actually insert the cartridges in. You will have to buy them digitally. Or probably have gamerpass.

Sega Sammy Holdings valuation? From Google Finance.

The Microsoft stuff is from various articles. They all pull the figure from Microsoft's mid year report from Autumn 2017. It's nearly 90% off shore, but Trump is offering tax relief if Microsoft (and other similar companies) bring it back to the US via mergers and acquisitions.

Polygon ran a speculation article highlighting possible studios Microsoft can purchase. It’s the quickest way to get exclusive content and get its footing back for the next console gen.

Plus Microsoft’s repatriation of money thanks to Trump’s tax laws are facilitating the “money to burn” move. That, and Microsoft making gaming a core product/service and giving it a voice at the table.

Honestly Sega would be drop in the bucket. Microsoft could purchase Sega, Capcom, the studio behind PUBG, and UbiSoft, and they’d still have $90B to play with.

It’s kinda like a video game sequel to Brewster’s Millions. :D

Xbox has always been the SEGA console's spiritual successor, i hope that would mean that new sega games or new IP are coming to the Xbox

I can't imagine the Yakuza Franchise becoming an Xbox exclusive.
There be a shitstorm of Bayoneta proportions.

Microsoft buying Sega would be the only way you'd get me to buy another Xbox console. Otherwise I'm usually PC and Nintendo only.

Acquiring the properties alone would be huge, Panzer Dragoon Resurrection? Golden Axe? Virtua Fighter all exclusive? Porting all of their Saturn/DC stuff? Yes please.

Just like we got faithful sequels to all of Rare's games? People really shouldn't wish for things they don't understand. They should also understand that MS views sales like a third party. They don't care to diversify if the games aren't doing big numbers. Games like Viva Pinata, PDZ, Alan wake, Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, and a ton of other games all sold more than what Segas typical output did and look where those are.

The only series Sega has that MS could get sales out of is Sonic, and even that would be debateable considering the demographic.

Just over $2B. Microsoft can easily and readily afford that.
Buyouts are usually done at higher than share prices.

But in any case the company is highly under valued if their market cap is only $2B. I’m sure the value of all their physical assets and properties is much more than that.

With rumors of google possibly partnering with sega, again rumor, I wonder if that effects any plans MS has with sega? If they had any at all.

That was my first thought when I heard that rumor. I was hoping to hear about the fruit of those MS meetings at E3. but we might be hearing about the Sega/Google thing at GDC coming up! either way I just want some sweet Sega news laid on us soon...

I don't even think its that, I think its simply their games coming to game pass or Yakuza series coming to XB for the first time.

I see zero reason for Sega to make a exclusive for the company that moves the least units for Japanese content, I see even less reason for MS to pay for a exclusive when MS themselves are not even doing exclusives anymore, Halo MCC was just announced for PC, so I don't see MS going back to the dated way of doing things as the days of MS making exclusives only for 1 device are pretty much over.

Would never matter. MS is clearly putting all their games on PC, which means even if they bought Sega, you'd still be able to play their games.

As a european i'am proud to say I boycott Microsoft consoles since their first one. Went always with Sony and Nintendo instead. Still pissed they pushed Sega out of the market, which was at that time the only real arcade alternative and the output of "Japanese goodness" let's me collect games on Sega systems to this very day.

Xbox came up when a new crowd was hungering for ego shooter warfare games and that was the total opposite to my taste. Yes I know there were games like Mushihimesama and some Japanese arcade ports later but still the damage was done for me. Xbox.. A brand I would always consider targeted towards dudebros, japanophobes and inferior to Dreamcast.

I love me some old school LucasArts on PC though.
