I think MS/Sega would/could have done what Sony did eventually - but they have done a lot for gamingBut what has Sony done for gaming that nobody else could have done?
How have they advanced the gaming community to make it a better place?
I don't get this one either .. wtf does "under Sonys rules" mean ? There isn't any such rules - Sony isn't our ruler either..Where are we going to show how gaming can be better under Sonys rules?
Yup, if they keep putting out the games we are seeing this gen then bring it on. Microsoft needs to up its game on that department and if they do I will buy more of their shit too.You guys aren’t helping your cause here.
Sony has literally held back the entire industry for almost 30 years and some of you are happy for them to continue doing it.
1. Games mattersList it then.
You know the Saturn exists right? Even if you ignore older consoles with 3D games.4. PS1 launched way before N64 with fully 3D games
I know everyone here loves Sony and I’ll probably get reported to hell for this.
But what has Sony done for gaming that nobody else could have done?
How have they advanced the gaming community to make it a better place?
Where are we going to show how gaming can be better under Sonys rules?
How do you force yourself to do something? lolAnd they could have all been made without Sony.
The only reason they were made for Playstation is because they are contractually forced to.
We see more and more that these companies don’t want to make games for Sony only so once thier contract ends they are jumping to PC and Xbox.
That isn’t good for the gaming industry.
Another false one.The original playstation - before then people were paying $70 (like $120 now) for games on cartridges - not only did CDs make that cheaper - Sony (and partners) let the games be cheaper too - Sony's optical disc expertise helped here

Sony has literally held back the entire industry for almost 30 years and some of you are happy for them to continue doing it.
They were launched with a week of difference and the first 3D games where on PlayStation... not Saturn. Why so many here arguing about the PS1 being the first console with 3D games in 1995?
How old are you people?
You know the Saturn exists right? Even if you ignore older consoles with 3D games.
Why not label that the first? It was even released before the PS1.
When the PS1 launched Sony had a no-2D games rule at the beginning.Could you elaborate?
3D was already here long before the PS1. The 3DO, Jaguar, 32X, Saturn all had 3D games, even older consoles and home computers had 3D games.
At least 3 out of 4 are false.
How do you force yourself to do something? lol
There were already 3D games way before Sony's PS1. I already mentioned the Saturn, 32X, 3DO, etc. You even have 3D games on PCs in the early 90s and even the 16bit consoles.
First online console? You can trace that back in the early 80's. In Japan even the NES (famicom) had online.
I'll give you the VR since the Atari Jaguar only had prototypes and the Virtual Boy was a massive failure.
Actually Nintendo was technically ahead of that curb, dating back to the Famicom and also with the Super Famicom by using peripheral dial up modems for the consoles, in Japan.
Another false one.
Sega CD, TurboGrafx CD, 3DO, etc.
This thread should be renamed "PS1 - My first console".
No it was not.N64 was out before and went 3D first.
Mine was the NESAnother false one.

You kind of remind me of other user who had this obsession hate for Nintendo and now you seem to have some weird hate towards Sony. You guys aren’t helping your cause here.
Sony has literally held back the entire industry for almost 30 years and some of you are happy for them to continue doing it.
You are kidding yourself right now, and get wrote of the list of people to have a conversation with.Yes Im happy, and it seems like Im not they only one since PlayStation consoles are the only ones that can sell +100m per gen ... Go find a corner for you to cry and ponder about ways to advance the industry Lol
Do you really believes Sony is forcing themselves to make games?Easy, I’m at a buffet and they charged me 25.00 I’m going to force myself to try to eat 25.00 if my body likes it or not.
I’m at a party and I’ll try to force myself to drink more beer then I should.
I can power through it.
It’s easy to force yourself through anything, the fact that you haven’t makes me wonder,
I wasn’t trying to be biased, I wanted honest reactions and I think I got them.
Your OP did not help your points to begin with.

BTW did shine in 2D games because it was truly superior in that mode.
The only reason they were made for Playstation is because they are contractually forced to.
Remember that. The main thing that advances the games industry is games. That's infallible. If the games are shit, everything else around the edges is completely meaningless. Sony's first party output has been pretty stellar since the PS1, that's the long and short of it.
So? Sony saw the potential in those studios and backed them. Sony/Cerny were so happy working with Naughty Dog after Crash 1-3 and CTR that they bought the studio and from there we got Jak & Daxter, Uncharted and The Last of Us. Regardless of whether you like those franchises or not, they're incredibly popular and sold well. No one has any idea whether or not ND would have continued to be as successful as an independent developer, whether they would've had the resources to create games on such a scale, etc. And that's just a single example.
Could other companies have done the same thing? Sure, but they didn't. Just saying "but other companies could have made the same games!" is such a bad argument. They didn't make those games. They made their own games, many of which also helped things along.
You've gone from not advancing to now actively holding back the industry. You guys aren’t helping your cause here.

Trust me we are way better off with Sony as market leader. Nintendo would charge us through the ass for everything if they were market leader. No Price drops, bad online etc etcYou guys aren’t helping your cause here.

Remember that.
Fully 3D games. But you are sill ignoring the 3DO.
I would argue that Sega tried this first with the Genesis. Though Sony had a much better success with the PS1.2: They marketed their playstation for a wider audience, a more "mature" audience if you will. I think it's safe to say gaming would almost still be considered as a pure children's hobby if Sony hasn't stepped in. You could argue Sega was trying
Some truth here. The main thing that advances the games industry is games.
Do you create a thread to throw a pre-made up conclusion that nobody agreed? So in the end we can agree, they have done nothing but follow in others footsteps and securing “exclusives” they didn’t earn.
As far as I can see they have brought literally nothing to the gaming industry, yet get credit for it all.
How far behind would our consoles be if Sony got to dictate it?
Just don’t get mad if another Tomb Raider happens. It’s part of the game. As proposed by you. Thanks for the thoughtful response. What are you trying to imply?
PS4 is not the "first" VR console but it is the best we've had so far.Moved gaming to 3D (PS1)
First online console in the world (PS2)
Introduced *free games with PS+ (PS3)
First VR console (PS4)
Going from "first 3D games" to "first 3D fighting games" seems like moving goalposts.Fully 3D games.
The first fully 3D fighting game in the industry was Toshinden in January 1995 for PS1 for example.
I would argue that Sega tried this first with the Genesis. Though Sony had a much better success with the PS1.
Just don’t get mad if another Tomb Raider happens. It’s part of the game. As proposed by you.
So in the end we can agree, they have done nothing but follow in others footsteps and securing “exclusives” they didn’t earn.
Answer me this, why Yakuza games that are starting to come to PC is not coming out on Xbox?So in the end we can agree, they have done nothing but follow in others footsteps and securing “exclusives” they didn’t earn.
So we against capitalism now? That's kind of how it works. New ideas make a big hit at the market at first, but the real money comes from executing that idea correctly. Usually the first step and the second are not done by the same company. So in the end we can agree, they have done nothing but follow in others footsteps and securing “exclusives” they didn’t earn.
So am I really. It would be nice if we had competing companies in the online space, but one doesn’t want to do it and the other is so far ahead.
This is beginning to come off like a "My first system war thread" to be honest.Just don’t get mad if another Tomb Raider happens. It’s part of the game. As proposed by you.
Shucks that’s Sony’s best contribution is stealing games, but hey if you got nothing else I guess.
I think you are confusing things here lolGoing from "first 3D games" to "first 3D fighting games" seems like moving goalposts.
But even that is false. Virtua Fighter on the Saturn was released before that.
Uh i dont understand thisSo am I really. It would be nice if we had competing companies in the online space, but one doesn’t want to do it and the other is so far ahead.
We are being held back.
