FFVII: Remake Trailer

Lady Bird

Matsuno's Goebbels
well they showed Barrett from the vantage of a playable character, so there's hope. I'm just hoping it wasn't like when the side characters on FFXV use skills and it just focuses on them for a second before switching back.
They have confirmed long time ago that you would be able to switch to and manually control other characters. This trailer re-confirms that.

Are we going to do this in every FFVII thread? It's not turn based, move on. Let's discuss what it is, not what you want it to be.

The game looks freaking awesome, can't wait to see more.

I can say whatever I want about it since this is a discussion about the upcoming game. Don't like my takes than ingore it.

Doesn't change the fact that Square are messing up big-time by FF15 the combat for this game and splitting the game up into parts.

It's just tiring to hear the constant bitching about something that isn't going to change, and to make it worse, it's a demand from a very niche group.

The game looks freaking awesome, enjoy it for what it is.

Like Nomura himself said, if you just want upgraded graphics, buy the remaster/pc-port.

I really don't care whether it's turn based or action. The turn based nature of the original played next to no role in why I loved it, and was actually fairly trash as you could sleepwalk through 99% of battles. Mixing it up with action but keep in place materia/limits/summons is all I really care about, and it looks pretty damn cool from the trailer.

Looks really good, hopefully they'll drop the 3 part thing and do one massive game. Also, show Tifa.

Wow. I literally just played through FFVII on Switch and I thought Jesse was a guy the whole time.

Lol.

you know i really want it turn based also. something about these action rpg's dont work for me :/
For me I enjoy the thinking time. The internal mental debate trying to work out what to do five steps in advance.

Action is just spam buttons and hope the best. It only really rewards quick fast accurate movements. For me, that's what street fighter is for. Leave me to enjoy my chess like gameplay

Day 1, based exclusively on it not being a shitty turn based combat system.

Right there is my issue. You're not a Final Fantasy fan if you don't enjoy turn based combat. Over 75% of the franchise if not more is turn based. This game is not being made for RPG fans it's being caterer and dumbed down for a mass audience.

What it should be is a love letter to all things turn based and Final Fantasy. What were getting is a slap in the face.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
I dunno I’m fine with turn based but I’d really prefer action RPGs nowadays.

People embrace the RE2 change to action, but are shiting the FF change to action?
Wow.

Square/FF Fans are unrealistic and have weird logical reasonings 90% of the time.

While I'm not one of those people bitching about it not being turn based even though it's been a thing we've known for years now I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried about the battle system. Square can be very hit or miss especially lately. I really didn't enjoy ff15 gameplay and hope it's nothing like that. Kingdom hearts 3 was decent but dumb ideas like the attraction system really bring it down.

On one hand I do understand why people are complaining about it not being turn based on the other hand I think it's foolish to dismiss it just for that reason especially since being turn base or action doesn't dictate how good a game will be.

That being said I will be MIA the week they decide to release this game it looks extraordinary

“Final Fantasy” hasn’t been Final Fantasy for years, though. Traditional ATB gameplay has been kicked to the curb for other shit, from MMO-like systems (FFXII) to action-style gameplay (FFXV).

I find it sad that Square thinks so little of ATB that it has to resurrect a popular game just to remove that system and replace it with twitchy action stuff.

It’s no longer the same kind of game and turns FFVII into the same shit like FFXII and FFXV, which I couldn’t stand and essentially killed my fandom of the series.

But Square thinks that twitchy stuff sells, and fuck— they could sell a box of shit logs in a box that says “Final Fantasy VII” and it would sell millions of units.

It looks like the prettiest game I have zero interest to ever revisit but will probably end up doing so.

As far as FF games go the story was below average. It's big draw was the graphics and for all graphics have done since FF7 is to make pretty games with weaker stories case in point the mess that is FF15.

This game was cool because it had cool looking characters. But they were COOLER LOOKING than they were actually cool or part of a great story. Serphiroth may be one of the coolest villains of all time, much like Darth Vader is to Star Wars.

I hate being on the sour grapes train for something that's going to have the biggest amount of hype for awhile. I would kill for an FF3 Remake. Kefka > Sephiroth all day.

I take back what I said in the other thread. It looks like it's coming sooner rather than later. I'm not terribly keen on a more action-orientated battle system but that's not enough for me to dismiss it. Looking forward to seeing more.

That's misrepresenting the whole thing, it's ridiculous to compare it to chess, there are maybe 10 fights or so in the entire game where you had to do anything other than press attack and heal occasionally. I don't dislike turn based games, but come on.

I was talking more about tbrpg as a whole, not specifically this game. Still though, tb ftw.

Just want to call bullshit on this. I have loved the Final Fantasy series ever since I was watching my older bro play as a wee BABEH BOI! I'm not saying I never enjoyed the combat (I love FF7's version of turn based cool down combat), but I much prefer action games. The first 2 Dissidia games were great for that.

Final Fantasy has a lot of things to love about it besides gameplay, and I am stoked to be able to experience FF7 as an action game (albeit not my favorite form of action game based on first impressions).

I'm pretty sure I saw Cloud do a cross-slash in there, so limits are definitely in. I actually really enjoyed Crisis core's gameplay, if they modernize it and implement materia/summons similarly I think I'd be pretty down with it.

Looks pretty slick tbh. I only played through FFVII once (rarely Replay games) and it's still one of my strongest and best gaming memories. Will be very interesting to see if it stands the test of time. Wonder how the world map will look.
