FFVII: Remake Trailer

Very disappointed that they changed the voice actors. Looks like almost all of them are different. And I still think making it into an action game is a mistake. Overall, the trailer was meh.

Didn't like the portrayal of Jessie at 0:20. "Have fun" doesn't seem much like her. She's supposed to be someone who's really insecure, prone to mistakes and technologically oriented. She likes flashy stuff, but it's mostly from an aesthetic and technological point of view and not some action adrenaline junkie one. She's not supposed to be timid, but she should be a bit more muted or somber. My impression is she's supposed to be a bit older than Cloud, as well, even if it's not confirmed as far as I know.

I also hope the remake allows portraying Jessie, Biggs and Wedge more. We have the basics of their personalities from the little dialogue there is, but would be even better with a bit more relationship building to further make the later moments really impactful. My impression was always that AVALANCHE was a ragtag organization of unprofessionals that was based around anti-Mako extraction and anti-ShinRa sentiments. Supposedly it's supposed to be more than the 5 members we know of, though likely they're not supposed to be that many and with only a core group of active participants (the 5) and likely a few people that work on information gathering. It would likely include people who are anti-ShinRa, as well as those environmentally minded that were inspired by the anti-Mako extraction and general environmental politics of the founder.
When it comes to Barrett we know he's at least a mix of both, he likely joined due to his anti-ShinRa sentiments and was also compatible with the environmental concerns because of what happened to Corel, leading to him easily being inspired by the founder and take his ideas to heart. So fleshing out the other members would be great, including more backstory for AVALANCHE and such.

Im fine with ditching turn based, but the action that is there looks braindead. Like somehow moreso than ff15 braindead. Everything else looks solid, this game wont be out until 2023.

Why do I have the sinking feeling that Nomura is going to ruin this with his edgelord crap :(

Combat looks spammy and KH style too. Probably AI party members, by the looks of it.

Saying that. Not much to go on...still.

#edit: does anyone know a good reason why Barret is wearing cringy sunglasses?

I hope you can remove the sunglasses from Barrett. I don't like his eyes being hidden (limits facial expression) and it's a really stereotypical thing to do to a black character.

Add in Octopath Traveler, which did pretty well, too... but y’know: Turn-based combat is dated and shitty. That’s the new narrative.

Yea I liked that one too. Everyone thinks turn based is dead for no reason other than SE said it was during the critical peak of a series that hasn't been good in 15 years. Seems like maybe it's worth rethinking.

It looks good but I'm not feeling the hype for some reason.

I don't mind the action combat and I like the design so far. I'm not sure why I'm not running around in circles in excitement although FF7 is one of my favorite games of all time and the announcement gave me a lot of hype.

Still, I'll probably be there day 1 unless they confirm the PC port in which case I'll wait for it. Specially if they give it the same treatment as FFXV (cutting edge everything).

I'm at a point with Square enix where I don't even think any of that is in game. Was al made for the trailer.

Seriously. If they were gonna change them anyways then they could have at least given the Smash Bros. Cloud an English voice of some kind.

I think SE is no longer interested making turn based FF game, that wouldn’t be so bad if the action combat system for FF game were decent. The problem is they don’t never fully commit to action combat, they do this half ass between real time and turn based that never fully works. I like both Turn based and Action RPG but if you are giving me action combat then do it properly like this:

Really disappointed with how this is shaping up. I can't really explain why. It just doesn't feel right.
I agree. It seems off, and I think it won’t live up to the hype of the original. I wish SE made a FF6 remake instead but kept to the traditional top down view. I’m not feeling this whole combat system that have implemented in the FF7:R. It was a cool trailer, don’t get me wrong. But it didn’t make my nipples hard. The original FF7 when I played it on PS1 did though.

Combat does not look promising at this point though I have faith the game will eventually turn out at least decent.

The trailer was enjoyable. Aerith has brought us into a new waifu era I mean holy fuck that model looks amazing.

Right there is my issue. You're not a Final Fantasy fan if you don't enjoy turn based combat. Over 75% of the franchise if not more is turn based. This game is not being made for RPG fans it's being caterer and dumbed down for a mass audience.

What it should be is a love letter to all things turn based and Final Fantasy. What were getting is a slap in the face.

I didn’t know requirements were in place to be a Final Fantasy fan. With that said, my taste in gaming has changed from the early days of playing FF on the NES. Turn based combat absolutely bores me to death now.

You speak as if they could never dare to do a jrpg action again ....
I would say to wait before judging.

And this also applies to the games you are waiting for, like Granblu .....

That Granblue does not seem very nice ... Indeed ... The opposite .... It seems monotonous and boring.

It my personally taste, to me Grandblue Fantasy Relink's both combat and visuals waaaay more interesting.

Did they change Jessie's voice actor from the previous trailer? This one fits less in my opinion, while the first one felt more correct in terms of tone.

This looks ok I guess, but I am more curious as to what FFXVI will be. If this comes to PC I might give it a chance depending on how it turns out, but it’s nothing I am excited about or anything.

Announce FFXVI with Yoshi-P directing and I think I could get a little excited again unless it looks like this, XIII, or XV.

As for outright hating on it....well these new FF games don’t make the classics disappear into thin air, so my POV is that while I may not be interested, I still have the ones I like and other series that fill that spot FF once held.

I totally didn’t expect this today... I need this released now!

Also, I’ll be glad when the PS5 is officially unveiled so that they can confirm it for that console too.

What is superior about turned based rpgs? I mean ive played alot of them, and they only seem to prolong the boring segments of fights. I do appreciate the opportunity they give me to sip a beer tho.

Also not that it really needs much discussion, but if we go off the footage and assume this is still episodic, they showed as far as the battle into Shinra Tower. So my guess is the episode will be all of Midgar up to and including the Bike escape.

This looks like shit to be honest...I really hate Cloud's character design and the combat isn't turn based enough. I love FF7, but I don't think the remake is for me.

His character design is nearly a photocopy of the original design found in the manuals. No idea what you're talking about.

A good amount of her dialogue towards Cloud in the game uses exclamation marks which implies she perks up around him or is excited to talk to him. "Have fun" works IMO.
