Ariel cast in live action Little Mermaid Movie

I mean I don't really care, but if this was a black character played by a white person, while you know....

What will be more intersting is how covered up she will be LOL. Jasmin already lost her midrif and Ariel wore a pretty skimpy little bra there. I am sure there will be plenty of shirtless male mermaids and the Prince will probably show some skin, but the female mermaids will all be in quasi burkas LOL.

It doesn't matter as long as they are still hot.

In my personal opinion, if you, as an adult person really care that a MERMAID in a Disney film, something that doesn't exist is being played by a black actress, you might carry more prejudice that you actually think you do. Racism isn't an on and off switch. It's a scale. Be careful to not fall on it.

Until i see her act its hard for me to really judge this, but in light of forced diversity for its own sake it's hard not to be concerned how this will turn out.

Fuck people trying to race shame people for not getting someone who matched the original work. I also feel for this actress, she is going to get a lot of hate for taking a role she might have dreamed about as a little girl.

This. People who are actually getting upset by this need to get a grip.

These live action remakes though are......not great so far.

Don’t be silly, I think most are having fun, or is shade of skin off limits for jokes unless you white?

And how do you know the race of those making jokes? Rather prejudice, mate.

The fact is if they announced a live action Frog Princess staring Anna Kendrick, they would get their fucking doors kicked in.

But whatever. It’s okay to do it to white characters I guess. Don’t wanna be called a racist by people I’ll never meet online. That would be a tragedy.

It's not about race. Don't insinuate other people to be prejudiced just because they wanted a character to be more in line with source material.

Princess and the Frog is riddled with black cultural references, what part of the little mermaid is embedded in White Culture?

I don't need to be PoC to be offended at people using racial slurs. Just like I don't need to be gay in order to be offended at someone using homophobic slurs. It's called knowing right from wrong.

You can’t be offended because it’s not a personal attack to you. That is the problem with you ideologues, you think you are every bit the victim you try to shield yourself with.

You can call out people who are in the wrong, but personal offense is grade A ripe bullshit and socio warfare.

:pie_thinking:
Buildings, religion and clothing. What about it? That's without considering that the concept of "black culture" and "white culture" is rather "problematic" and is often a case of self-identification, as there generally many cultural impulses merging driving new cultural impulses. "White culture", which can be pretty wide depending on where you want to set the foot down for what "white" is, does account most of the European inspired world of TLM. The original story itself is one steeped in lutheranism. The story itself is literally the cultural product of a danish guy using European geography and mythology.
I would love to see how you want to limit "white culture" for your convenience, I'm awaiting. I personally don't think "white culture" or "black culture" is a good descriptor for anything. It is often a very American perspective on things, being such a young and isolated nation.

Other than the fact that it’s based on a fairy tale written by a white dude?

While it’s true that cultures all around the world have myths related to mer-people, stories about them falling in love with and marrying humans (like in the Little Mermaid) are known to originate from Scotland and Wales.

And wow, I didn’t realize black people had cornered the market on “wanting to own a restaurant” and “living in Louisiana.”

Let me let you in on a little secret kiddo: NOBODY WANTS OR NEEDS YOU TO BE OFFENDED ON THEIR BEHALF. When you go around in hysterics because somebody said something that isn't politically correct, you're not doing anybody any favors. The offended people have a voice of their own and are capable of speaking for themselves. You coming out and trying to speak for them suggests that you think of them as weak people who need a little milquetoast soyboy to come to their rescue. They don't need or want you speaking for them or telling them what to be offended by. They see right through your self-righteous bullshit charade. They don't see you as an "ally" or as a good-intentioned person, they see you for what you are: somebody so starved for attention that you would try to leverage somebody else's victimhood to draw attention to yourself. You're a complete clown in the eyes of everybody outside of the cult of SJW.

I'm not speaking for anyone "kiddo". I am not offended FOR someone else. I am just simply offended period. If I see some racist shit then I am offended on my behalf not anyone elses. Because racism is offensive. So is sexism. So is homophobia. I don't understand why that is so hard for you people to understand. It shouldn't be so hard to understand why someone would be offended by something that is offensive. Just because I am white doesn't mean I can't be offended by racial slurs.

Ah disney continues their "woke" campaign lol

Truth be told if there was passion in these "remakes" I might be interested, but each one of these bloated CG ridden, Hollywood relating pieces of garbage seems more shallow then the last.

I have no problem if you cast different characters if you're telling the same story in a different way, but when I hear these big celebrities getting the roles all I can think is "well another soundtrack I can skip"

At the very least Disney, can you TRY to get celebs who can sing, I'm tired of hearing the classics I loved auto-tuned to death to save the vocals of yet another A lister who cant sing for anything lol

Keep fighting that good fight Nobody_Important Nobody_Important ...

#so woke, so brave, I'm with her, Me too, Reeeeeee :pie_eyeroll:

Imagine being so uninteresting and pathetic that you build your whole identity on being offended by things that may or may not be offensive to other people.

Imagine getting mad about other people being mad.

Oh boy, Nobody_Important Nobody_Important , probably should've phrased that differently. That's gonna get mileage from here on. 🚗 :messenger_pensive:
Yeah because everyone on here was so nice and mature towards me before that lol

The shitbirds will attack and insult me regardless of what I say or how I say it. Either they seize on something I say like that or they just make shit up. I could care less at this point. It's not like their opinions of me matter.

I don't care, she looks good. The only thing that would bother me is if Disney is casting her specifically because she is a minority and not on her merits.

She was cast because she's a minority, you can be confident of that. That's not to say she won't be good in the role though.
