Star Wars is dead. Just let it go. It had a nice run 30 years ago, be happy for that.
It is, it's time to just let it end.

George Lucas IS Star Wars. Keep playing pretend.

Not dead. Just can’t milk it for lame side movies.
Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi

I was 9 when I saw the prequels and they blew my mind. Darth Maul was legendary. Duel of Fates was legendary. Episode 2 was the most forgettable but still good. I think I was a freshman or a sophmore in high school when episode 3 released and shit was an emotional roller coaster and the most glorious CGI fest. Finding out "so that's what happened to Darth Vader" was some heavy shit at like 14 or 15.20 years ago he fucked up Star Wars. Now people randomly love the prequels. Maybe in another 20 years people will randomly start loving the sequels.
People don't randomly love the prequels. It's because The Last Jedi wasn't a thing 20 years ago. Now they see the OT was flawed for sure but the lesser evil in comparison.20 years ago he fucked up Star Wars. Now people randomly love the prequels. The last Jedi is in all ways superior to any of the prequels. If you don’t like it that’s fine but objectively it’s superior in any measurable way. Action pacing plot dialogue. The only thing the prequels have better is the memes making fun of them are better.People don't randomly love the prequels. It's because The Last Jedi wasn't a thing 20 years ago. I tried rewatching the prequels with my wife and we couldn’t even get half way. They are a dumpster fire and what made them somewhat ok (the cgi) has aged poorly especially the first two. They are terrible and reviewed badly for good reason. Revenge is the best and even that is laughably terrible. I have the high ground has to be the stupidest way to end a supposed to be monumental fight I’ve ever seen probably in my entire life. Ridiculously stupid.I was 9 when I saw the prequels and they blew my mind. Darth Maul was legendary. Duel of Fates was legendary. Episode 2 was the most forgettable but still good. I heard criticisms of Jar Jar and the prequels in general later on and was kind of pressured into agreeing but I ultimately ignored them. I think many others may have been on the same boat.
Especially now with these new Disney movies, they can look back at the prequels and realize actually that they weren't as bad as they thought they were. I can see how many straight up like em now.
At least the prequels have an own soul (wheter you like it or not is another thing) because they represent Lucas' vision. The new sequels are corporate business movies to the bone, created only to make money. The last Jedi is in all ways superior to any of the prequels. Oh, we sure wanted to have "real life people" depictions of the cool heroes of our childhoods 35 years later when we walked out of RotJ in 1983.
What's more fun for a lifelong fan than seeing a grim and miserable Luke Skywalker and a downtrodden Han Solo dying shortly after their introduction after waiting three decades for seeing those people again.
Thanks Disney.
You're not even disappointed in the slighted that Disney killed off any chance to see Leia, Luke and Han reunited on screen? My problem was never the OT characters getting killed off, I expected that the moment Han Solo walked out on that platform. What pissed me off is how each and every one of them are nothing but sad, pathetic charicatures of who they once were. For Lando fans I'd suggest holding onto your buts, because I'm sure he fucked his life up somehow.
lol this "objective" bullshit. get over it dude, you're the asshole sitting behind me telling me the CGI is bad while i watch Yoda fight Dracula. go ruin someone else's day.The last Jedi is in all ways superior to any of the prequels. I like TLJ over the prequels, but it's definitely not "in all ways superior" to them. I'd argue that TLJ also has pacing issues, especially once the casino subplot comes in, and its action scenes, while having really cool moments, are about on par with the prequels, which had the plus of offering more of them. But there's something that the sequel trilogy fundamentally lacks: a focus on creative, exciting world building. And this is something that the prequels excel at, more so than even the classics. They are filled with imagination. The last Jedi is in all ways superior to any of the prequels. If you don’t like it that’s fine but objectively it’s superior in any measurable way. Its believable. Lucas was always a step a head when it came to merchandising. He got the merchandising rights for the original triology because back then no one had any clue about selling toys etc... So it wouldn't surprise me if Lucas put a clause in there giving him royalties on his original creations.
Here is the problem, Disney forgot Star Wars was a series for kids. TFA relied on member berries but still had some adventure in it that it could attract some kid audiences, but there was still a bit of darkness/grittness to it. But then Rogue One, Solo and TLJ went full on YA/Adult. I just can't imagine what would be attractive to young male children in those movies. They aren't really lighthearted fun adventures for the whole family.
RO is a spy/heist movie with a bunch of asshole/shade of grey characters lead by a girl whose family was murdered in front of her. The whole movie is kinda dark and gritty and none of the worlds or people are something kids would be in awe of.
Solo is a movie about thieves and Solo's love for his GF. Again nothing that an 8 year old would really be into.
TLJ, movie is too gritty. One plot deals with a casino, we are talking kids, not James Bond fans. The other plot line is a slow boring chase where WOMANZ show that men are stupid dummies. And you can contrast Luke/Rey witih Yoda/Luke. Yoda was this cool funny looking puppet that spout wisdom to Luke that lived on this weird strange but kinda cool planet. Luke lives in NZ drinking green milk and he is an asshole who doesn't train Rey, who acts like an annoying toddler.
As much shit as the PT's get, Lucas knew what buttered his bread. He at least made attempts to keep it fun for kids and famalies. Sure he added in stupid I hate Geroge Bush BS into it, but there was a sense of adventure and cool worlds with good guys and bad guys. Heck even the EWOKS that everyone shat on was something for little kids to be attracted to in Star Wars. It lead to 2 spin off movies and a cartoon show.
You aren't making money on merchandise selling to man babies and little girls. Boys are the main source of $$$ for toys, video games, and action figures. But if your movie doesn't attract young boys then you aren't going to sell these things.
Oh well just go and blame toxic maculinty and misogny. Shit on your fanbase more that will for sure drive kids to buy the next Rose Tico action figure. I hope they bring out a new Holdo action figure with mulitple hair colors so I can buy it for my nephew I am sure he is dying to play with it.
... kinda? 'Too gritty' is oversimplifying it. There's tons of other problems with these movies. Bizarrely inappropriate slapstick that neuters the villains and tanks the tone and tons of time wasted on nothing - crap that barely advances the plot and doesn't color the characters as anything but stooges. I'm kinda brought back to the RLM test on describing characters. I think we can do a little better a job in the sequel movies maybe but whether or not the characters we describe are a fit for the film is another question entirely.
I haven't seen Rogue One or Solo. I can only speak on the numbered movies but for them at least too gritty isn't the problem.
Rey being a Mary Sue could actually be compelling to kids if she had done epic cool stuff. As it is, she's barely even in the movie's climax, and mostly felt like a secondary "I'm going to be important in the future" character, outside of her role in the Throne room. What is attractive to an 8 year old boy in TLJ? Shirtless Kylo being all emotional and a giant loser? Rey being a mary sue? Luke being an old dick? Poe being a failure? Finn being a complete lost case who wants to die?
Star Wars is dead. Just let it go. It had a nice run 30 years ago, be happy for that.
The only thing prequel related that I've seen people truly rave over was this;

i mean, you started off ok, then the last sentence you just fucking couldn't help yourself but point the finger based on the reaction to the movie. lolPhonepunk: dude, I've been told multiple times I'm not a "true fan", been told I can enjoy it but not argue it's a good movie, and once flat out told to kill myself simply because I think TLJ is excellent. So forgive me, but while I'm sure most people who dislike TLJ don't have their head up their ass, quite a few are a bunch of fucking jerks who think it's acceptable to act like entitled douchebags over something as non-consequential as a MOVIE. Oh, and funny you mentioned objectivity, considering on this very forum I had to put up with this guy who insisted TLJ was "objectively bad" and while I pointed out how that's a complete misuse of the word he started acting all entitled, talking about film school and shit because apparently film experts can just rewrite the fucking dictionary or something. Maybe you worded it poorly, but to me it's clear more entitled, asshole-ish behavior comes from the anti-TLJ side than the pro side.

the prequels set a very low bar saying TLJ is superior isn’t saying much at all. ill Give you the world building is better though in the prequels.I like TLJ over the prequels, but it's definitely not "in all ways superior" to them. Because I can look at reviews, average scores, and have taste in movies and make a common sense summation of movie quality I’ve ruined Star Wars? Lol.lol this "objective" bullshit. get over it dude, you're the asshole sitting behind me telling me the CGI is bad while i watch Yoda fight Dracula. go ruin someone else's day.
the irony of you whining about people not seeing the greatness of TLJ while you shit on other movies. perfect. /s
tbh this is why im dropping the series. these insane super fans that take this shit way too seriously. they were fine shitting on the prequel movies and still are but will blow a gasket if you don't see eye to eye on their favorite movie. i like the prequels but i never went around telling people it was objectively better and superior and they were idiots for not seeing my way. fuck that. you people have ruined Star Wars.
