Ion Fury devs patch out non-PC jokes and force all employees & contractors to undergo mandatory sensitivity training

Must of been a real boring weekend sitting in mom's basement to go off on Ogay a fine product to lotion the hands with. Wait isn't that Olay? Who the hell knows °_° I thought it was a game. What's a game it sounds O F F E N S I V E has gay in it.

Also I thought gay wasn't offensive and everything else was. A full circle has been reached again by the clowns.

Im done. 😂

I hate how dictatorial people are these days.

This is fascism ladies and gentlemen, to demand that all media, in what's supposed to be a free country, kowtow to your personal beliefs with zero exceptions.

There's no other word for that than fascism.

Fascism comes in many flavors, for decades America had to put up with this sort of "outrage culture" coming from the Religious Right, now it's evolved into this "woke" left wing form of it.

I like how on Reeeee they are confused that the review bombs are coming from us, after the fact that they fixed the "problems". They don't even see how they are extreme SJWs, it's all just correct to them.

ugh. throwing a game company under the bus for their politics. this is exactly what they are doing.

people are seriously going to avoid playing a videogame because of the way some other message board thinks about them. lol. for real?

so is ResetEra now dictating all of your game playing choices? you should really check what they think about all the games you enjoy, you may need to stop playing some of them. lol. this is beyond pathetic.
Not quite.

Why should someone support a dev who patches content out of their game without warning? Full stop. It could be crass jokes. It could be a kart-racer outfit called Watermelon. It could be an entire stage. Doesn't make much of a difference because the principle is the same: devs patching out content because of Twitter outcry.

Time is limited. Money is limited. Games are near-infinite. If a dev can't stand by their own product, some people are going to make the choice to not support it, irrespective of the circumstances of how that dev failed to stand by their product.

Last gen, few batted an eye if a gamer refused to buy a Peter Molyneux game on the premise that he is a dishonest showman. Similarly, few should bat an eye if a gamer refuses to buy a game from a spineless dev that changes their own game within just a few days of its Steam release. And of course, all the sympathetic gaming outlets are trotting out how their comments were "ableist, homophobic, transphobic".

Nah. Perfectly acceptable to refuse to support this crooked industry with your money when stuff like this happens. Ion Fury devs could've stood their ground but they caved immediately. Not worth supporting.

That's disappointing. It's a fucking game that's obviously satirical in its approach. How empty and shallow must your sense of yourself and your life be if you think this is worth being upset about. Have they played other Build Engine games? They'll probably die if they ever touch Shadow Warrior or Duke Nukem 3D.

They finally stopped deleting steam threads, and just left a big one open, so everyone can vent. Or their crazy Reee-trained moderator is asleep.

The reviews also keep tumbling down. Didn't quite prevent further sensational reactions from both sides, huh?

This might be a bit tactless from the devs. I don't care much though. To me the fact that something might offend a community is not worse than anything that can offend me, for whatever reasons. Simply, situations or things that can offend me or make me sad are not represent by a community of crusaders of justice. Should I try to have all games changed to be sure that they will not offend me or make me sad ? The answer is no. I will simply not buy such games and that's it.

Its just a symptom of the social media generation. It's bred a population of self entitled, virtue signalling narcissists who think the world should revolve around them and their values, who organise themselves into social media vigalante mobs in order to bully those into submission that won't conform.

..and the scariest part is they've never known anything different so think its perfectly normal and justifiable behaviour.

Too late for me to refund. There was 1% change in recent reviews from the pile of nothing, and now following their decision yesterday that has turned into a 14% drop. I did check before and after. I loved this game. Avoid.

Originally i wanted to buy the game. But since i play Fire Emblem at the moment i abstained for the time being. Good thing i did, now it is on my ignore list. Censorship like that is unacceptable.

What two sides? There are no two sides. There are just the loonies on the one side and then there is the rest of us. Why am I being lumped in the same category like these people? Even though I've given Ion Fury a negative review because of this I am not going out and review bomb games that cater to them. Let them have their games, I could not care less. But do not make others censor theirs!

Let me ask you a serious question...do you want REEEEEE to maintain its vice like grip on the industry, sucking out any semblance of a backbone from it? Because sitting around saying "Oh my god, who the hell cares!" is precisely how you let them win. There are more of us than there are of them. If we fight them in the long term we will win.

I mean, we had some posters here claiming that this apology is the most sensible thing to do, to calm down the ree-fucks and stop the "controversy". Didn't work obviously, and instead of just some insane leftists, now everyone dislikes them.

Agreed. I hate that devs/publishers listen to that shithole of a forum.

No fun allowed.

Yup they are basically the activist wing of the gaming community and developers will listen to them.

Realistically the only way to do anything at all against this is to say to developers and/or publishers "oh if you are listening to those guys then I guess I won't be buying your game".

That really sucks because indie developers shouldn't be put in these positions where an unhinged internet forum can actively fuck with your game over the most trivial bullshit.

There's not much more can be done. Resetera has more or less established themselves as the "Videogame Police" and they will relentlessly go after publishers and developers that displease them. Sometimes this even happens with the backing of the mainstream gaming media.

So they are just chipping away, outrage after outrage, and over time developers will get the message and will start to REALLY vet all of the content in their games to make sure that the activists don't/can't come for them.

Right now it might still be the case that CD Projekt Red and THQ Nordic are too big to be affected by this but for indie developers it's just not really possible for them to take the heat. Even though Warhorse did kind of stand up to them over Kingdom Come I'd be willing to bet that the negative coverage and, in some cases, the pettiness of not covering the game at all probably did mean they made less than they could have.

Eventually though this type of activism will grow and grow as people realize they can jump on the bandwagon and get those good feelings from pushing for some change and then achieving it. Whether that change is good or not.

Even the more level-headed posters on there are sort of "proven wrong" because even if they are saying that this isn't a big deal or don't harass the developers etc the truth of the matter is that those who wanted to do that manged to get results and in some ways they are now vindicated.

I can only imagine that this will escalate more and more as time goes on.

Shit, I even saw they were whining about Astral Chain because the main protagonist is a cop. Since the ReetardEra Videogame Police really really hate the actual police the Japanese game from Japanese developers that is probably intended to just be a bit of action-packed fun better have some larger commentary about how terrible the cops are.

Used to be that you could pick up a magazine and find out what new games are coming and legit be excited about new ideas and new leaps in technology.

These days it seems like every other game is a battleground over American ideological nonsense.

Let’s have a look, the initial red was the offended Woke, the recent big red ones are the gamers?

Fuck yeah....

HG7fles.jpg

If your positive review was changed or resposted, it retains the initial date. Those bumps earlier include people swapping. Something worth noting for anyone unaware. As a result, the initial red was smaller than it is now. It was a pile of nothing.

I think the apology can only really work if they've actually done something wrong or if there is some kind of larger good served by apologising.

As it stands, with indie games like this, the game is good but not THAT good and so within a few months it will have drifted into obscurity. So the balance of "should we or should we not apologize" is really about how it might affect future games.

They probably reckon that if they do not apologize now then whatever project they want to do next might have trouble with funding and/or publicity etc.
Or they legitimately think they have done something wrong.

I don't think the main complainers really genuinely care about the "offensive" words in the game or the "controversial" posts on Discord. This is really just a demonstration of power.

"Hey guys I found this really obscure thing about the game, do you think we could get it changed or get someone fired".

At WORST this is a case of a couple of people being a bit edgy and a bit immature. Really not a big deal at all.
However, there was this wave of outrage and here we are.

It's not about legitimate debate or discussion of points or even about whether or not games can be allowed to have "offensive content". It's about whether or not they can kick up enough outrage to actually have an influence and exert power. Unfortunately the answer here is that they can.

I don't even understand how an apology or removing a thing from a game is enough for them anyway.

From the ResetEra perspective some of the posts on the discord and words used in the game are the equivalent of violence.
If you posted that stuff on their forum there would be a permanent ban and you wouldn't be able to say "but if I delete the post and donate to a charity will you forgive me".

So I don't see how the apology does any good. Realistically it just gives these horrible transphobic and homophobic people something to hide behind. Will their 1000 dollar donation bring back people who killed themselves because of these terrible phobic comments?

It's just about power. Nobody actually gives a fuck about the issues.
Just "you said something we think is offensive and now we are going to see how far we can push it to have you punished".

Well, the torrent is pretty easy to find and it is not patched (or patchable) so we can always have the version we deserve.
Hardly the point however. The world is fucked.

You can’t fight the ‘think of the children’ argument.

Arguing against authoritarian ideology that is cloaked behind it will always win because no one wants to be the ‘bigot’ challenging the insane aspects when they are tied to a noble cause.

The great majority of people are reasonable; have no problem with people’s sexuality, race or gender - yet they can see through the far left sham, but are powerless to defuse it.

Here’s the prediction; the review bomb, a legitimate protest trying to send a message will be smeared and discredited as Gamergate, Nazi’s, incels, what have you on All the usual sites in the coming days.

How do we solve this?

Eh, it's a bit of a stupid thing I'm about to say, but people can kick up the insanity a few notches. Someone on the steam forums suggested finding more "offensive" content and post it on ree or something, so that the devs have to bend the knee even more.

It has to stop somewhere, right? Maybe when there is nothing left to burn, people will wake up.

You can't solve this, but we can make developers more carefull about who they ponder to voting with our wallets. I did a refound, checked if there is a torrent version avaiable and made a backup of it just in case it vanishes, I'm not going to play it cause to be honest I didn't like the game so much.

That is a thing that should be done, let's pretend that we all get offended by something.

Simple solution... We need legislation saying that if it can be proven without a shadow of a doubt that you have ruined someones life, caused them to lose a job or anything like that then you go to jail for a set amount of time. These demands for termination effect people's lives, marriages, kids, etc. All for what, because the hate mob on retardera was offended?!? This stuff is no joke, and when you think about it these people cause more harm than most modern day criminals.

I hate the outrage culture coming out ResetEra and other shitholes as much as everyone else but is there actually any homophobic stuff in the game?

I remember back in the day when censorship ruined the game Thrill Kill and it never released. I got a bootleg of it, it had so much potential back in the day. The devs decided not to release it instead of censoring it. How things have changed. Now devs are self-censoring. I hope this game tanks. Glad I didn't buy a copy.

Depends on whether or not you consider harmless juvenile jokes, the sort you might find in a certain other 90's Build engine shooter, "homophobic".

Point of personal privilege!.... Sadly, all future media will just come out bland and non controversial - perpetually reviewed by a panel of diversity experts, lgbtq experts, feminist experts, what have you. You can't fight something that didn't change for the better or worse, it will just be what it is.

Better get used to it. Woke 100%
