In the past yep, nothing terribly recent that I can think of.
The shooting in Montreal in 1989 was pretty high profile for a long time with 15 deaths
What does mapleland fear?

My school has hired a full time security detail and has a county sheriff’s deputy on site during the school day. Even next week when we have our Washington DC trip meeting, we will have an armed guard in the busiest part of the building at that point. In my district, it’s not the kids that are the concern, but the snowplow parents that get the focus of security.

Canadian show, 9-22, it's pretty well done.

Canadians make their own shows? I figured all your media resources went into maple syrup production, Trudeau cosplay trips and brewing mediocre beer.

And that isn't even close to realistic for Canada. A black cop as the lead? Blacks are like 2% of Canada's population. That would be almost as ridiculous as having a white lead in a Korean cop drama. At least have a east or south east asian cop as the lead.

Schools have the worst security of any public arena, my solution is amp up security, I feel like this has been proposed but its a solution for tomorrow to feel safe today.
Eh I dunno there's something weird about security going around with guns in a school with children in a first world country.

I absolutely think the arming teachers solution is a joke though. I know that was something proposed for the US but ya just wanted to get that out there.

It's basically a US thing. They love their guns, shooting and security.

Cruise down a neighbourhood and don't be surprised if a kid's lemonade stand has a security guard standing there. /S

When I got to sporting events in Canada, you might see a couple cops patrolling the area. And half of them are on the street coordinating traffic.

Go to a Buffalo Sabres hockey game and I couldn't believe my eyes. Never mind having some police..... they had armed soldiers with rifles and army vehicles around the arena as people are walking in.

This is an image I found o Google so it's not exactly the same thing I saw, but close enough. This is what was outside the arena, but imagine the soldier on the sidewalk and the solider and vehicle having beige paint and uniform.

Fucking nuts.

Dude I live in Buffalo, I’ve seen the SWAT guys at Sabres games but the only time I’ve seen an army vehicle was during a veterans appreciation game, unless you’re talking about an MRAP.

Guess how many mass shootings have happened in Buffalo?

What else can you do? Canadians aren’t serious about shootings. I love the idea of amped up security.

Definitely not Vets night.

I had to google map it now, but we'd stay up town and take that tram to the arena. We'd get off at one of the stops by the arena and walk the rest.

So it's Main St where we saw army guys and their APC vehicle.... I googled what MRAP is and yeah the vehicle is like that. Maybe my usage of APC is wrong.

As for mass shootings in Buff..... don't know. I don't remember any. Maybe none?

I mean, technically an MRAP is a military vehicle. A lot of police departments got them for free or cheap in the United States as part of a military surplus program a while back.

fuck all the media profiting off this stuff. it is really sickening, the obsessing with this stuff, and the stealth glorification of it by the culture. kids that do school shootings are watching tv too, you don't think they see these things and think "Damn, that looks pretty badass!" i get the desire to virtue signal and "do something" but nothing can be done past getting rid of guns. if you make a video simulating a school shooting you are basically playing dress up showing how cool it can be to the possible school shooter who then sees your video. it's beyond dumb. the more people talk about this, the more it promotes it tbh.

Dave Chapelle was otm when he said the school shooter is there in the classroom, listening to the teacher giving the school shooting instructions. "Ok class, remember to meet in the library" and the kid is in there jotting this stuff down.

why don't we hire police to check everyone that enters or exits a public school? we can't afford it? oh, so some kids getting shot is worth us not coughing up money? that is bullshit. if you go on an airplane, you have the TSA. they are not perfect but they are a major deterrent. we have security systems now that can be put in place. public schooling is already and institutionalized system, if this is going to make children safer, then why not?

The problem with banning the guns is that whoever wants them will still find them in the black market and nothing will change, that's always the same story repeating itself in different places

My solution is look at Switzerland.

Switzerland allows gun ownership. They also have mandatory gun ownership. But they also have for a very long time been in the top 1 or 2 spots for the lowest gun related crime and gun related deaths in all of europe. Not just a country, but all of europe.

But what does switzerland also have? In the tops ranks for all of europe for employment, education, physical and mental health programs, etc. Essentially switzerland is a happy country full of content people because their country cares about them. Hell switzerland sent up a small satellite to drag a large decommissioned satellite of theirs down into the atmosphere so it would burn up because they didnt want to litter space. They also have been testing 6 hour work days in quite a few companies there and finding better results from productivity while keeping their pay the same as a 8 hour day and the employees are happier. That sounds like a great country.

So we can stop school shootings in this country quite easily. But the problem is we need to make this a better country for the people who carry it on their backs. But we dont want to do that. We want to wallow in our own mind numbed pile of dogshit misery and no one wants to do the work to make it better, they want someone else to do.

Like in the case of school shootings no one wants to fix the real problem. They want to be lazy and just sit and say what should be done by telling "ban guns", "more security", or "arm the teachers" but none of that shit actually solves anything. The fucked up people who want to shoot the schools up are still there and are still fucked up. They didnt go anywhere.

Can't say I'm a big fan of the English version of the 19-2 show, one of my ex's liked the French version that I thought was more authentic. Having Jared Keeso playing a Montreal cop was hard to swallow, more so after Letterkenny (language warning).

What does mapleland fear?

If you're referring to the 1989 Montreal shooter, feminism. Denis Villeneuve wrote and directed a movie about it, Polytechnique:

No offense.. but if you dont have guns there is a great change there wont be gun problems.

Maybe people should ask themselves question WHY these things happen. America has always been full of guns, but this increase in school shootings is recent and caused by something. It's a epidemic at this point. And it's not just America either where school massacres happen. In China or Japan where guns are banned, children have been slashed to death. What do they have in common? Being very advanced industrial nations.

Also, it's not sane to have metal detectors at school. It says something about your society. What are schools anyway other than prisons where propaganda is being spread, creativity destroyed, and competition and obedience instilled for the purpose of serving the machine. God forbid questioning and criticizing the status quo...the whole circus. No, we want more laws, more security, more corporate and legal corruption and exploitation, ... to cover up the absolute madness that is modern life. And yet, people still want to believe that they are free. Stop kidding yourself Americans; you were never free. And the American Dream is a fairy tale that never existed or ever will exist.

This is just one issue of many; poverty and homelessness increases, the life expectancy decreased because suicide and drug abuse have become rampant in the US, the gap between the rich and the poor have never been bigger. This won't end until people stop believing that the system in place will ever work, until people stop idealizing or believing politicians and corporations, and start acting like unique humans beings who do not want masters above or slaves below...and that begins with the treatment of your children.

Let's ban murder so nobody gets murdered. Let's have all men get their dicks chopped off so they can't rape women.

Look i get that mental issues are a much bigger and serious problem. Its one big clusterfuck in the USA with the whole health department itself. That should always have more prioritize over gun banning if you ask me.
But what did it benefit the USA as a whole in the past 50 years to have guns in so much propertions? I dont get it.

It’s mainly a U.S thing, we got some crazy white kids who can easily get guns, it’s pretty damn easy to either find a gun in the house or order one off the darknet. Parents really gotta be closer attention to their child.

Yep. I don't see a lot of courthouses getting shot up. If people really give a shit about the kids they should pony up for better a security process getting in.

In the US? Politically impossible,
As well as logistically impossible. We have more guns than people. Try to enforce that and you'll get a second civil war at worst and at best half the guns will land on the black market.

Also I do agree with people saying we need a whole cultural shift to fix our isolating and dehumanizing hellhole of a country, but that is a long term project. Better security is a much faster and concrete measure to actually help things in terms of protecting school children on the way to that.

You can use other objects to rape and murder people with! OH THAT WAS THE POINT!

It occurs to me that a tax on gun sales that would go toward bolstering school security would be regarded as a horrifying absurdity by the punditry but could also be a measure on which many could agree.

Edit: That’s being considered in South Carolina and probably elsewhere: https://abcnews4.com/news/local/proposed-sc-gun-tax-would-fund-officers-in-schools

arm the teachers, move towards arming the students

everyone should be armed all the time, that's the ideal society

Uh, don't most American schools already have armed police officers and metal detectors? Didn't the police officer at the Parkland shooting just run? Don't think having armed security at schools makes the problem any better.

Montreal and Toronto are about 10% black, and I believe this takes place in Montreal.
