I think Death Stranding is going to flop and I'm scared

Shit, that's how it's supposed to work?!? Damn, I musta missed an email :(...

That guy should define fine... I actually love this game, for instance...

I’ve only watch a few minutes of gameplay and I notice the horrible draw distance on some open environments. Some far distance tree images are back at ps2 levels. It looks pretty rough.

The what now?

Guy needs some humility, not a fucking death sentence.
I don't want him to die.

s someone that lost a close friend this weekend to suicide. I feel this is a really bad taste joke by you. I can understand you not liking the guy but you can be better than that. Just ignore Kojima's existence and move on with your life.
That's not at all what i said. Read the post again slower.

We have had a number of threads here on GAF just recently regarding things Kojima has said about the game.

Tweets mainly. Because apparently Kojima is living rent-free in some people's heads, compelling them to comment.

Funniest thing for me is the fake hand-wringing over KojiPro staff-members feelings about Kojima's (probably clumsily) translated tweets in English, as if the average western dev is going to even bother to read tweets made about their project in Japanese.

Yes i have played horizon.
Until Dawn uses the same engine as well and KZSF, no the same games at all.
UI is pretty much MGS UI design, how is it similar to HZD really?
Traversal mechanics in HZD? because you can climb very especific surfaces?
IN DS you seem to have to keep balance of your equipment while traversing with R1 and L1, your feet get fucked up and your boots deteriorate. The speed at wich you move seems to depend on this.
Unlike HZD where the ziplines are static, here the rope seems to be deployable anywhere just as the ladder.
You can skate on a hoverboard drone and a motorcycle as well.
You packages and equipment can fall to the floor if you fall or get hit too, so keeping balance and fighting and speed of traversal seem to be connected.
this is from skipping on the trailer, i'm sure there is more available in trailers if you look in to it, but i've just skipped through them to not spoil much.
Point is, games are nothing alike gameplay wise...and traversal is not in any way similar, in HZD traversal is an afterthough here it seems to be the main point. Similar to BoTW.
Sweet

The UI functionality more so than the form, it's very similar to HZD in that fashion.

Boot destruction sounds terrible unless he's walking for years. That's probably the first negative thing I've heard.

I totally forgot about the the vehicles and the grapple mechanics. That's pretty neat.

So those are the nuances I spoke of.

I don't know, it still reminds me of HZD in motion based on the video posted earlier. Which again, is not a bad thing. I'm not sure what you are trying to prove here.

I think the reception is going to be pretty positive. I'm willing to bet he will get his fourth 40/40 from Famitsu and the Western gaming press - who loves Kojima - will give him very lofty accolades. The enthusiast press might be a little less warm, but still.

Predicting sales is a bit trickier: The sheer craziness of Kojima's plots might suggest limited mass market appeal, but there a lot of Hollywood names, Kojima's cachet is at all time high, and there will be a lot of people who will approach it like a Quantic Dreams/Supermassive game. There were reports of middle-aged women buying Beyond because of Ellen Paige and William Dafoe. Reedus might pull the Walking Dead casual crowd. And then again, Nier: Automata, the most Japanese thing to come out of Japan in 20 years, sold 3 million copies in the West. So you never know.

If I were to risk a guess: this is not going to get to MGSV's 6 million copies - V was multiplat, crossgen, etc. etc.

If it flops it's kojima's fault for waiting too much to disclosure wtf the game is about.

Honestly it felt like watching the previews for the order 1886 back in the day(nobody knew if it was uncharted-like or heavy rain-like because the devs were vague about it).

Worse than Superman 64 confirmed!

The game will sell single digit coppies and will bancrupt KojiPro making Hideo-san quit VG business.

He will then turn to his other big love, making movies. He will be regarded as new Uwe Boll, always aspiring to be a great successor, but never reaching quite as high.

Very low likelihood of this turd flopping. Kojima fanboys and Sony money will make this a GOTY contender. We can just hope that it, while being a critical success, will not be an overwhelming financial success. Otherwise we'll have to live with Kojima's talents wasted on this kind of garbage for another game.

Can't believe most of the buyers are so selfish. To enable Kojima in his delusions just so you could get Darren Aranofsky of videogames? What about the rest of us? We have needs as well, we want his creative prowess, but grounded in reality and serving the people, not the hipster.

So what if it flops? People get way too invested in shit like this. If you like a game, buy it and enjoy it. If others don’t like it and ignore it, the world keeps spinning on its axis.

Don’t worry about sequels or who gets to stay employed or “what if it doesn’t sell” scenarios. Unless you’re an employee or a shareholder, none of that matters. Just enjoy the game that you waited for and don’t erect barriers of concern based on what may or may not happen.

This game has been so hyped there is almost no way that it won’t be seen as a letdown on some level. I think instead of worrying about it or trying to anticipate in either direction, I’m just going to wait and see with an open mind.

So hyped? Not really. I mean yeah but some but in equal measure it's also been heavily shit on. This thread case and point.

I haven't gone out of my way to watch anymore footage but things randomly appear in front of me from time to time as far as coverage for this game goes. It gives me little to no desire to play it or even watch

For me, this is the most exciting game this gen. Although I have bad feelings about this game, I really hope it proves me wrong and succeeds. Kojima is a genius who struggles to get the execution of the game right, with MGS V I could see fragments of what is an amazing game, muddled in with a bunch of shit. This game looks totally unique and original in concept, and I hope it lives up to the hype

thinks Halo Infinite is a new graphical benchmark
The guy has Metal Gear Solid under his belt, and is reestablishing himself with this game, give Kojima a break, he's putting him and a lot of people around him in a good position for success.

OP, DS is going to be glorious.

What Kojima has shown is a tiny taste of what this game will be in full.

Don't be scared. This game will shape future titles in the industry. KojiPro is a top tier studio.

Expect DS to score a 94.

I'm equally scared OP. Let's hug each other.

Flashless at the Golden Globes
The E3 trailer went viral and was trending for days. It has almost 10 million views. thats halo numbers.

It will do fine. Most people didnt even watch the TGS demos. i think its just the hardcore gamers, the outrage squad who simply cannot be pleased. There was plenty of combat in the tgs trailer and that was enough for me. THe game seems to be about walking but there seems to be a lot of gameplay ideas that should keep walking interesting compared to other walking simulators like uncharted.

- Your shoes degrade. his feet were all bloody after that side quest. these seem to be upgradeable.
- there are several survival elements in play. you need eat, hydrate (dehyrate), have carry limits, need to balance in river streams, down mountain slopes and essentially figure out the most optimal route to ensure you dont break your shoes, lose your gear, supplies etc.
- character progression and customization seems to be huge. he jumped like the bionic man. turns out he had special legs equipped.
- they said you can build bridges and roads and showed how the same area changed after they put a bridge there. this sounds very interesting.
- enemies during the combat section were very persistent. the gun looked really cool. melee was ok, but this is a shooter.
- boss fight was excellent. huge area and lots of different elements on play.

it might lose a few players, but i think overall it will be a big success. bigger than horizon imo.

On the contrary I expect it to be a great game with lots of twists that are still under wraps, it will get great scores and sell really well.
But it will be divisive. The game takes a lot from phantom pain and adds to it some mechanics that won't please those who simply want to play an action game. Maybe the game just isn't for you OP.

Well I have lost most of my interest for the game so unless it has like some major discount for the game this holiday it is a no go for the game. In the opposite with the Last of Us 2 I originally had no interest from all of the previous trailers but the one from the state of play actually got me interested in buying the game.

I suspect this will end up being the emperors new clothes of exclusives, where the majority of players will just think it's a load of pretentious tosh wrapped around some boring fetch quest gameplay, but are told by a small minority of superfans and journalists that we just don't get kojima's genius.

Am I crazy or is really fucking weird behavior to actively hope a game flops?

Kojima directed games have a pretty solid track record of having commercial and critical successes, but there's this recent fixation with Death Stranding flopping.
It's just really odd to me.

I don't want to make baseless predictions, but I have a suspicion that even if it does well in sales and sells several million copies, some will still consider it a bomb in their eyes because it didn't sell as much as COD or GTA as some sort of barometer.

Please, hug me.

The gameplay so far has been bad, like really really bad. The mele combat looks like total crap, the weapons look boring and stupid (the bola gun holding BTs it's such a big turn off, takes away their otherwordly menacing figure), the mini boss battle was insipid, the physics are not that good neither and all the supposedly revolutionary connecting part of the game with the likes and people assisting you looks totally boring and irrelevant. The amazing and mysterious aura the game had, has been evaporated the more has been revealed of the game. It has lost it's own momentum.

I'm really really pessimistic about the game right now.
Wait, you're scared for a game that has nothing to do with you?!

Okay then.

Sometimes people need to fail to become more grounded... Ya know? Get their heads out the sky, or out their own asses.

Riiiiight...

I'm not sure wanting a game to flop applies to what you're saying. I'd say it's more spiteful in nature, which is anything but grounded.

I don't trust Kojima pre-release stuff as a good indicator of anything.

I do hope it at least plays well. MGSV had an ass story but at least the core game feel was solid, and the urination in DS looks on point so far.

Doesn't matter how it reviews...in a true fanboys eyes the game is brilliant because it's not on Xbox

I'm honestly placing in between the order and driveclub (prior to the 30 patches) in terms of how it's received

The actual gameplay looks mind numbingly boring ...I just hope the storyline is interesting to slog through

Honestly I dont see the game selling well nor poorly. Somewhere in between. The game strike me as a game that wont appeal to as much as possible audience. Also I see the game as the type that most people will wait for a price drop or such.

Considering MGS 5 was one of the biggest scams of 2015 gaming(only thing saving gaming for me that year was TW3) this shouldn't surprise anyone. Kojima is kind of overrated, with his last good game being that PT demo which went nowhere.

I dont see a PlayStation AAA exclusive in Ps4 selling less than 5 million on these days, and people will love it, just like every game of Kojima it will be a fun and deep experience.

So it will be a hit.

Titanic was called the Ship of Dreams, and it was. It really was.
I'm willing to take a gamble by purchasing the game, I never played a Kojima game I didn't like. I remember people criticizing MGS2 at the time, because of Raiden or whatever. But that ended up being one of my favorite games of all time.

Could it suck? Certainly. But that can always happen. If it flops or not, frankly it's not my problem. I'm gonna play it.. Maybe the game isn't that good, can definitely happen. Even Shirgeru Miyamoto has had problems before, remember Wii Music? It's fine..

We all know that once it is released other devs will quit the industry and TLOU 2 will be canceled because no other game or dev has any chance against magnificent DS and Kojima Productions.
Long live Kojima-san!
