Is Ellie from “The last of us: Part ii” on steroids??

I had to replay twice to make sure who in this shot was. I seriously hope there is a backstory to how she managed to get those side delts, traps like Bane and a solid upper back. I don't think its naturally possible for a female to achieve this much muscle density at all. Look at Olympia fitness competitors, even they are not this dense and defined. This is post apocalypse universe . Unless, im missing something, i was absolutely dumbfounded by this design choice.

I mean look at this:

azE1wQh.jpg

Looks like she has been hitting those chin up bars and dumbbells more than she's been playing guitar.
This is how ND designs females these days, look at the ladies in the uncharted 4 dlc.

Also, note that women who do a lot of physical work do get somewhat strong, I don't think that they went overboard with this choice. I mean she is in the village's security patrol.

Anyways, if you want to see some examples search for "female bikini body builder".

Anyways, she is very feminine, I prefer this over too thin or fat...

The majority of people on here are threatened by the musculature it seems. At least it would explain her being able to handle herself. What if she looked like Ellen Page body-wise? It would be a joke to picture it.

Not painting everyone with the same brush of course, but I think there's a few to many insecure, misogynistic man babies on NoeGAF that you can't discuss games like TLOU II, more specifically games featuring strong female and/or LGBTQ leads without it going at least a little bit wrong.

Truth is, women by nature build muscle harder and slower than men. She must have been through some intense shit get jacked like that, and I believe that's what all the wounds and scars are trying to show.

In video games and anime they often portray even the strong women in an unbuffed physique, as muscules in females don't impress the males. (Best case scenario, they just add some abs.) As a result in the rare cases that we see a buffed woman (that it's not part of a joke) it looks weird. I still remember the ending of MGS4 where Meril appears in a wedding dress with her broad shoulders, and I had to remind my self that "Oh yeah! She is supposed to be a trained soldier".

(The only time in anime where a woman soldier was genuinely buffed in the beach episode to represent her skill in battle)

This is what happens when people use Anime and videogames as reference points instead of actually going to the gym and seeing what women who train look like.

Looks like I missed out on 8 glorious pages here. She looks like a man, she has looked like a man for some time, its ND, we know.

Unless she started to work out like crazy with weight and take some pills this is unrealistic.
And here comes the shortsighted.
Have you ever heard of genetics? If you have healthy parents that happened to be very fit when they conceived you the probability of you being born with a tendency to be healthy and have muscles is higher. If you exercise from the day you're born until 18/21 years old the probability of you getting taller and stronger is higher, considering you don't suffer from any other genetic disorder or lack of nutrition.
So yeah, I hope I clarified it for you.
I don't go to the gym nor exercise like crazy (everyday) but I was born with Hercules's back (huge ribcage) and I have more triceps than biceps (meaning they're crazy huge and defined).

They had electricity right from the start when they were living in that military zone. Doesn't mean they have the means to just waste power and resources on tattoo shops. We know this is a dangerous world where people are under constant threat of clicker or scavenger attacks. In the first game there's even a village that resorts to cannibalism. I'd say getting a tattoo is a luxury these small, vulnerable communities can't afford. I don't think it makes sense in this universe, but I see others disagree. Cool.

The fuck are you on about dude?

Your weird issue with a tattoo, during the times of monsters, killing people during the end of the world as we know it. Like why wouldn't people still be getting tattoos?

Doubt you can get the protein to maintain that body in a world like that. But whatever. Is just a game, obviously isn't going to be 100% realistic.

I wouldn't be so sure. Tommy's town had crops, livestock, running water and even electricity, so it sounds plausible that the people there had a decent diet.

If anything, with everything she's been through, I would have expected her to be bigger. She's got nothing on Terminator 2 Sarah Connor.

People are getting bent out of shape about absolutely nothing, as per usual.

It's a videogame about a post-apocalyptic world where humanity has been destroyed by a brain-eating fungus that turns living hosts into zombies, and Ellie's muscles are what you point out as being unrealistic, you absolute simps?

Women naturally build more muscle than that dude. I guess you could make an argument that it makes no sense for her to build that kind of muscle in a post apocalypse where it would be hard to get proper protein and vitamins to support building bulk, but I don't really think she's that muscular.

I do take issue with how weird her face looks, something about it doesn't look right and she just vaguely resembles Ellie to me.
Because they had to change her likeness. She was kinda a spitting image of Ellen Page - so much that Ellen Page got pissed because she was also legally lending her likeness to another game at the time

People would probably have a better diet than most people today do. You won't see them eating shit like McDonald's, Pizza and drinking sugary fizzy drinks.

It would just be food from natural sources, none of the heavily processed shit.

One of the biggest things a lot of people are missing in this thread is the fact that the most important thing when it comes to muscle definition is diet. Smaller muscles can stand out more and appear bigger when they are more defined and not covered in layers of fat.

Wow, this thread turned into nonsense pretty quickly.

Pretty ridiculous to see a physically strong main female protagonist (which we all knew about) and people start saying wahmen, feminism, SJW, etc. Unsure if people are trying to be funny or what, but it's missing the mark IMO.

Don't be the opposing radical to ResetERA, we should be better than that. Don't be silly and chill, lol. Not like any of this feels out of place for Ellie as a character, she was always a hard ass. :messenger_peace:

Sadly, the place is drowning in attitudes like that.

Thankfully though, unlike ResetERA, you won't get immediately banned for it.

Allowing both sides to be free to argue is far better than limiting it to one singular mentality.

You're not getting the point.

A character's personality often reflects their character design.

Generally, some of the "smartest" characters in a video game or within your group will often wear glasses. It's a common character design that represents this.

Otacon - Metal Gear
Ignis - Final Fantasy 15
Nico - Devil May Cry

Characters who use their sex appeal will wear revealing\skimpy clothing and flaunt it.

Bayonetta
Excella - Resident Evil 5
Mileena - Mortal Kombat
Anna - Tekken

What about Ellie?

Ellie is not what you may consider as the "feminine" character.

The way she talks throughout the first game was obvious.

She's considered the "Tomboy."

You see many women like this in everyday life. There are women who are not comfortable wearing skirts and heels all the time, they just like to wear jeans and sneakers.

This makes it clear where Ellie's personality is going and how it will reflect in her design.

Ellie is a fighter who is trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic world.

Knowing this simple fact, you're not going to see many typical "feminine" characters, you're going to see many characters with a tough personality because you need one in this world.

So Ellie is going to show a tough personality due to her growing up in the world.

That's not SJW propaganda, that's simple character design.

You were telling me how personality affects somebodies looks right?

You're literally making no sense.

Just because someone appears "sexy," that doesn't mean they will not have a tough personality.

I mentioned several things when it comes to Ellie's appearing and her personality, not just one.

You're not going to get sexy characters walking around in high heels in TLOU too because that wouldn't be "realistic."

It's a post-apocalyptic world, so wearing make up, dresses and revealing clothing isn't going to represent that.

Ellie doesn't look butch as some people are trying to say, she looks like what many people may call "TomBoy."

Zarya from Overwatch is often what people may consider "butch."

Ellie is not the appearance Ellie is portraying.

Looks like the body type is possible?

Lots of photographic evidence, even if a lot still don’t look as mannish as Ellie does.

I think that kind of circles around the point, though.

1: A woman is not going to get this male look either in a post-apocalyptic world without appropriate training equipment (although some could be fashioned), and diet. She would get toned, not shredded and mistakable as a guy from the back.

2: In real life, even if you can load up on the steroids, protein powder, eats, training, whatever... should you? What is so wrong with femininity that you have to run away and be a poor imitation of a male? Likewise, for whatever the designers were thinking here, apparently not just once, but with two separate female characters.

I would have much rather have seen a feminine, but battle ready and athletic Ellie, secure in her own identity, not a hulking dude with a dainty head on top. Everything about it feels wrong and freakish, and it’s the same with the bodybuilding pics.

If it felt unrealistic for Ellie to be fighting with that kind of body structure, well, that’s how it is in real life. Even these bodybuilders would likely get wiped out by normal dudes. You can try to ‘woke’ your way around that, or you can embrace a female character, and create the gameplay on that basis, versus making her Joel 2.0.

I don’t think they want to, though. I think this game is no small part influenced by wanting to make social statements, from the lesbian relationship, to the built girls, and I think that’s the type of game they want to make.

Was I the only one born and raised in the ghetto who’s currently a member on Gaf or former military here?

Late 80s and throughout the 90s people would fill paint cans with cement and stick a cans on each end of a metal pole and used it as make shift weights. Some cats like my older brothers use to those street crossing signs that tells to cross or wait to cross in NYC as pull up bars or go to the park and do pull ups there.

You do not need official training equipment to get and stay in shape. Official training equipment just makes it easier and convenient.

Let’s look at Ellie’s situation.

She’s in a civilized settlement that affords her the opportunity to work out. How do I come to this conclusion? If that settlement can host a dance then that settlement can afford its residents to train their bodies especially since a physically fit and trained person is considerably more useful and likely to survive then one that’s is not.

That settlement has food and it seems to have meat. It may not be the ideal diet but I’m sure it’s enough to sustain a mostly healthy life style. If that settlement didn’t have enough food for a healthy living then it wouldn’t be a viable spot to settle in.

Lastly, WHY WOULDN’T SHE WORK OUT AND BE AS STRONG AS SHE CAN POSSIBLY BE?

Did you play the first game? Whether you did or not she was a character in that game and she knows what she has to do to survive in the world she lives in. She knows what it takes to make it. She’s not a player in the real world huffing down Cheetos she’s a character in a world where people are going to try and kill her or clicker are going to try and eat her or whatever Clickers do.

Everyone has a opinion on how fictional characters should look but very few are taking a step back and seeing that the way Ellie looks makes sense if you understand the situation she’s in.

Correct. Nothing to add here. Besides, as previously stated, she's not even that jacked up, just fit and toned. And that, for the reasons stated here, makes perfect for her to look that way.

"Although some could be fashioned"

Gotta read thoroughly before you correct someone.

I think a settlement like that could sustain some level of bodybuilding, but ultimately the food and available equipment wouldn't be enough to build a woman into an almost indistinguishably man-like appearance.

I actually think calling this thread a fascinating look into the minds of man children who can't take strong female leads in entertainment media and twist anything of the sort into some form of SJW propaganda would be closer to the truth.

Ok.. that’s where I feel our views differ. While I don’t agree with you that Ellie looks mannish or hulking in the shirtless scene because I feel she looks very feminine and sexy despite the bruises and injuries I’m also not going going to try and convince you that you’re some how wrong in your opinion.

I have my own personal experiences with female body builders and I could find pics of females who I feel so look mannish and hulking but it’s all a mute point.

When I first quoted and replied to you I was just trying to argue/point out that a figure that Ellie has is totally possible for someone who’s in her situation. Even though I only quoted you my replies was also meant for others who were saying that her figure was not possible in a post apocalyptic world. I didn’t mean to single you out. Your post just stood out because it was more well organized then the others.

several people in this thread kept telling people like you that this physique isnt outside of any possibilitys.
i myself had a girlfiend with a back like that.
why do you keep ignoring those statements?

and stop accusing poeple of beeing indoctrinated because they view things differently. Its not helpfull.
but if you wanna go full stupid we can also go this way:

everyone who vies Ellie as mannish or hulking must have a small penis and/or must be scared of not being able to satisfy his partner. Also theres a high possibility that you sit in your room 24/7 wanking it to hentai and have warped views of how real humans look. (see how stupid this is?)
