The Outer Worlds will be enhanced for Xbox One X, not for PlayStation 4 Pro [UPDATE: False]

"When a major AAA game launches, buyers want to know how it runs on Xbox One X and PlayStation 4 Pro (PS4 Pro). We reached out to publisher Private Division and a spokesperson for the company said that the game was "4K on Xbox One, no enhancements for PS4 Pro."

Seems the game has to be released for the platform due to pre-existing contracts which supersede the acquisition, but it doesn't seem like they're doing Sony any favors in the process.

It's surprising that they release it at all, I am curious to see who butchered the PS4 port is.
Well it's not Microsoft's game, it's Private Division's game (Take2) so it has to be released, but the developer as of now is Microsoft's so.

There's something going on.

When you're getting beat so bad that you start becoming petty. I'm sure this will sell 2 more Xbox One X's
It might not even be a petty thing, maybe there were no plans for either but since Microsoft owns the dev they're assigning that they do it for the platform.

There's more possibilities than just the one.

That's messed up but since Obsidian is owned by MS now and The Outer Worlds is only on PS4 because of a previous agreement it doesn't make sense for them to waste time, money and manpower to upgrade it for PS4. I mean they should but I don't think they're obligated to do so in any capacity.

Yes, obviously, but I don't think any dev/publisher that is truly independent from outside interference from the platform holders will put more efforts into the market leader.

These guys belong to MS now, why would they put anything but the minimum effort on the main competitor's platform? I would not invest money to have that happen, so they did the bare minimum to be able to say: "see we are the nice guys, we put the gamers first".

Wanna talk petty, Sony + crossplay
Sony has had it open for years before MS even dared to talk about it, in a sense they used it as a wedge to look like "nice guys" because nobody played MP on their platform anymore - Sony should not have responded the next week by saying "Yes Ms you have good leadership on this, we will follow you anywhere".

Now MS played their cards pretty well and they gained some PR points, so good for them, nobody is against virtue... it's just how messed up the message around this issue is.

This isn't Microsoft's game, Microsoft didn't fund this, Take2 did. Now I know it's now a Microsoft developer but at the end of the day the work involved is decided by Take2. What I said is likely the reality, they never planned on enhanced support for either, but since Microsoft is now the owner of the developer they're floating the cost it takes to have it enhanced for the X.

That would be strange that they never even considered at the very least offering a higher resolution or a performance mode for the PS4, that doesn't sound realistic, and it's too convenient.

I don't judge them, people who spend millions of dollars on a studio to gain an edge on their competition won't go any further than they are obligated to when publishing on another platform.

Well, this news really sucks.

It's bad enough that Xbox One owners have had to endure all of the Sony "timed exclusive" DLC rubbish this generation (Destiny is a prime example). But I don't condone tit-for-tat.

Microsoft, you're better than this. Always lead by example. Phil Spencer's estrogen levels must be high right now to make this kind of a call.

I was looking forward to this.
But between the PC version being an Epic Games store exclusive and now this news about the Ps4 Pro I guess it's a skip until it either releases on Steam/GOG or it's under $20 on the platforms it's currently releasing.

Oh well, more money for other games

No, what's petty was Sony money-hatting Remedy to provide exclusive content and a digital deluxe edition that contained two additional story missions exclusive to PS4.

Sony doesn't own Remedy, they just paid them to keep content away from Xbox players. Same thing with COD.

Microsoft DOES own Obsidian & probably had the company they own enhance the game for OneX, they would have NO reason to invest in making an enhanced version for their primary and petty competitor.

This goes against what Phil Spencer has preached over the last few years. Kinda disappointing, gamers shouldn't have to deal with the consequences of studios being bought.

Microsoft should encourage Obsidian to make the best PS4 Pro version possible. The Pro version should be seen as an excellent marketing opportunity, instead of the payback situation it appears on the surface to be.

Its just graphics, everyone will be playing the same game. Just some will be playing it with much much better graphics :D

Kind of a silly move really. They should look at this as an opportunity to build Obsidian's brand and use that to attract players to follow them onto Xbox.

I don't know why people think this has anything to do with pettiness or payback. There's direct value for Microsoft in xbox one x enhancements and there isn't for ps4 pro enhancements, it is as simple as that.

If you're a fan of the genre and the game reviews well you're going to buy it on your platform of choice, regardless of what "enhancements" they add for particular platforms.

For sure mate, I get that.

(I personally, won't be missing out as my X is now my primary gaming platform, even though I love my PS4)

But this just sets the wrong precedent. Sony might do the exact same thing for a third party title, now. And that game I might prefer to play - enhanced- on my X. I wouldn't want that future game release to -artificially- wind up being released in 900p and not enhanced on the X.

As a dedicated console gamer: I don't like platform holders artificially dictating what system I should buy a game for with silly limitations like this.

<spoiler> I don't have a PS4 Pro, so this doesn't affect me personally but I still think that everyone should receive the best version of the game possible on their platform of choice</spoiler>

I'm guessing the game wasn't going to have X or Pro support, but Microsoft allocated the resources to make it X enhanced, and they have zero obligation to make it Pro enhanced. But as so many people stated in the COD thread, that's business right?

That's not really comparable here.

?

Out of the loop here with regards to COD. I do see a thread about weapon microtransactions.

Still not sure if I'll play this on X or PC. Probably X, depending on just how well my PC runs it.

One thing is for sure - I won't be playing it on the Plebstation Poor.

Sounds about right, logically speaking. It’s one of my most anticipated games but the developers and publisher probably hadn’t planned on enhancing patches before they were purchased.

Can’t really expect Microsoft to front the cost to enhance the PS4 edition and Take2 isn’t obligated. I don’t like it myself but I can understand why the X gets a enhance patch and not Pro version.

maybe Sony can front the cash if they want it bad enough.

Kind of odd, they should at least give the PS4 version a resolution bump.

That's what I"m saying, how hard would it be to make the game 1800p checkerboard or something like that? Seems like they're literally going out of their way to do this. Oh well, my backlog is packed, and fps RPGs kinda suck without VR these days.

Obsidian is owned by MS. Could be possible that there will be exclusive dlcs for PC and xbox Scarlett.
