Not really surprising, tbh I'm surprised they're even releasing it for ps4
They probably needs to release because the contract was made before the acquisition and the the $$$ to break the contract should be bigger than the costs to release the PS4 version.

AS a xbox box one x user and ps4 user i find this hilarious.

I hope it's well optimized

For those complaining I ask this. Why would Microsoft allocate resources to enhancing the Pro version?

Obsidian is now owned by Microsoft so if they're simply preventing Obsidian from doing so, then they absolutely deserve to get shit on for this. But if it's a matter of resources, then I think the blame falls on either Take Two or Sony.

Sometimes I wonder if developers are just a little lazy with the PS4 Pro. I know the PS4 Pro isn't as powerful as the XBox One X, but I think they could of pushed certain multiplatform games a little harder on the PS4 Pro(DOA6 and Bloodstained to name a few). How can you have 4K or near 4K on a Xbox One, but can barely achieve 1080p on the Pro? Is the power discrepancy between the two consoles that wide or is it just much more challenging achieve comparable results? Maybe Microsoft really did allocate resources for enhanced performance on the XBox One X or it's on Sony's end or something?

Because the resources for the game never came from Microsoft. Microsoft has fuck all to do with the game. It was funded by Take2's "Private Division". I think personally it's just a lack of caring from Obsidian' side. Since Microsoft now owns Obsidian it makes sense that they will optimise for Xbox One X

But for all we know enhancements for either console weren't planned. And if that's the case, then the additional resources to provide said enhancements must have come from MS due to Obsidian now being a Microsoft Studio.

I'm not expecting much from Obsidian in any way. I'm waiting for the Steam release any way. But I am sure it's going to be a buggy piece of shit at launch like all Obsidian games. But all the real talent left when Chris Avellone left Obsidian.

Microsoft, you're better than this.

no they are not, this is the most they are going to do and it because the contracts don't expect them to fix any bug or optimization in the game after release unless its very serious, they will cut content and release a DLC that will be exclusive to xbox if they can, don't blame them, its their product now and they can do what they want, exclusives are good and its what differentiate your product, they are not "bad" for getting an exclusive or exclusvie content and features, but lets not pretend Microsoft is not Microsoft

Correct me if I'm wrong, but when ps4 pro was releasing didn't Sony say that all games going forward must have some kind of enhancement for pro version (at the very least improved resolution if I remember right)?

I thought I remember reading something like that, but there have been several games released without any Pro enhancements.

Weird how when the X gets the shaft, nobody bats an eyelid, and it’s just the ways it is because “why would people spend time working on a game for a console that doesn’t sell”. But when the Pro gets the shaft, everybody suddenly thinks it’s some big conspiracy....

Yooka-Laylee JUST lunched with no Pro stuff either, yet nobody started screaming for that one...

These goal posts man, I can hardly keep track of them...

They did say that and it never happened. I was a bit miffed that I bought one and they didnt follow their word.

That would be strange that they never even considered at the very least offering a higher resolution or a performance mode for the PS4, that doesn't sound realistic, and it's too convenient.

I don't judge them, people who spend millions of dollars on a studio to gain an edge on their competition won't go any further than they are obligated to when publishing on another platform.

That and there's probably not much incentive from Sony's side either.

Game doesn't look technically demanding. I wonder why they would do this.

Like a very wise man once said,
"you know Ms, every game will output in 4k on your PS4 pro all entertainment home video system."

Was this ever meant to be a AAA game? It was basically a small project to keep Obsidian afloat. (and then MS bought them)

Though with that said, they are charging full price for it.

Well, this news really sucks.

It's bad enough that Xbox One owners have had to endure all of the Sony "timed exclusive" DLC rubbish this generation (Destiny is a prime example). But I don't condone tit-for-tat.

Microsoft, you're better than this. Always lead by example. Phil Spencer's estrogen levels must be high right now to make this kind of a call.
How are they better than this when Microsoft was the one that started the whole "timed exclusive dlc rubbish" on Xbox 360 last gen. Lol.

Anyways, guess this is a PC game for me now.

TGO

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
And nothing of value was lost.
Seriously I ain't a clue what this game is.

This happened too with We happy few, they said the game would be enhanced to PS4 Pro, after Microsoft get the studio the game released at 1080p resolution

losing 1440p isnt huge deal and your Pro wont go into Jet Engine mode now

Depends, what if they don't activate the game like PS4 Pro supported? You could lose the half of GPU power even in Boost mode. You could have poor performance even at 1080p

Lol, why on gods green earth would the blame for this fall on Sony!?

Are you making the ludicrous suggestion they should pay the devs for enhancements?

I did find weird most comments blaming MS when there is nothing wrong with what they did.

In fact the game should never release on PS4 at all if a contract didn't exists before acquisition to force that release happen.

It is their direct competition so MS has all rights to not give any support at all for this game on PS4... it is fair and the right thing to happen.

There is no-one to "blame" to be fair. It's just business decisions. MS has no obligation to support PS4 Pro either.
Yeah, I agree but...

Have you ever seen somebody asking for an Android app to be ported to iOS and then blaming Apple for it because the dev doesn't do it?

Saying, well it's Apple's fault because they should pay me to port my app.

PC is a better platform for RPG and RTS in general.

Yep, it's going to run the best on PC as well and Obsidian is primarly a pc developer (though with the Microsoft aquistion that of course extends to XBOX now as well), hasn't worked on consoles themselves for 6 years.

All the ports since have been handled externally.

lol that is pretty stupid, the game was financed and published by Private Division, not Microsoft, even if Microsoft owns IP now, they can't sabotage PS4 release.

Sony own Sunset Overdrive IP now, and you can buy yet for XBOX and PC, because Microsoft financed and published that game. Its exactly the same

There is no sabotage lol

Sony should not support Sunset Overdrive anymore on Xbox One... no patch, DLC, etc.

These are really weird and unfair ideias.
