Perspective is a hell of a thing.

Death Stranding Metcritic = 84
Gears 5 Metacritic = 84

Some of the reviews I have read have so much discrepancies. How are they calling the game not fun and boring, but proceed to give a good score that is 90 and above? It's like they want to bash the game, but had to hold back due to getting paid by the developers of the game to give it a good score, so they had to sneak in some diss in there.
Look at Jeff Gerstmann, he got fired over a review score... So yeah, I think certain games get breaks and there's people breathing down reviewers necks at certain times.

Death Stranding Metcritic = 84
Gears 5 Metacritic = 84

Okay? And?

Nah, it's not that, at least I don't think so. Look back at old reviews of Metal Gear Solid 2. Same type of deal. Most of the reviews were a series of complaints about how many things in the game they found annoying or didn't understand. Then at the end: 95/100.

Because games aren't meant to be fun they are meant to convey a message. Eh, look at the scenery and shit!

Screw it. I put my pre-order in and I'll be there with a lot of you next Friday. I'm going to even book the day off for it.

I honestly have no idea what I'm going to think of it. Reviewers that tend to align with my tastes seem to be all over the map. Skillup (and his Laymen offshoot) are almost wistful about the game while Brad Shoemaker doesn't know if he likes it or not. All he knows is that he hasn't been able to stop thinking about it for the past week! The one that I'm looking forward to and I don't know if he even got a copy is Karak Karak .

Regardless, I'm looking forward to next Friday!

this game warrants a second review down the line because the gaming population can alter the level design. I can see someone changing their opinion because how much of the game is changed from release. MGS2 was just ahead of its time.

Oh man you know it’s a good thread when fanboys compare console exclusive scores but it ain’t even exclusive anymore 😂

Is there any PS4 and PS4 Pro comparisons? I only have a standard PS4 and want to make sure it's frame rate is fine.

The only thing that I've seen is an IGN video showcasing the graphical fidelity between the Pro and the base console. Obviously things look a lot sharper on the Pro, but they don't go into performance.
DF said that they're going to have another video coming later due to the fact that everyone was timeboxed in what they could show so I'll expect that they'll have a Pro vs Ps4 comparison sometime next week or the second the game goes live for everyone.

On a personal note, I'm getting it on a base PS4 because with the new consoles so close and the fact that it's also coming out on PC later, getting a Pro now would be a waste of money imo unless of course you don't have a PS4 in general.

Edit: Here's the IGN video. Obviously it won't do you a lick of good unless you have a TV or monitor that can stream Youtube videos in 4k to really see the difference.

Well The Witcher 3 has a boring and serviceable combat system being generous...

Overall it got great scores.
Maybe DS is overall a good game even with it's flaws.

Hehe lets take review of a PS fanboy like Greg seriously.

Not saying game is bad but Greg is biased towards PS and especially Kojima

Probably because he genuinely likes the games? I mean, everyone brings their preferences and biases to a review... Take that knowledge into account when reading the review.

Sure. If u followed Greg then you should know how much of Kojima and Sony fanboy he is.

Game is good but that guy will not trust when it comes to Sony games

Anybody with a positive opinion of this game is automatically labeled as a fanboy. Stupid. People like and dislike different things. Get over it.

It’s unreal how this has to be explained. Not everyone has some weird hidden ulterior motive. Especially not when it’s related to a fucking video game.

Dudes in here acting like they’re uncovering a grand conspiracy. Sad.

No just Greg Miller.

Anyway, Game will sell gangbusters regardless of Meta score thanks to massive PS4 install base and Diehard Kojima fans world wide.

Every Sony exclusives sell big regardless of their quality thanks to massive install base. Knack and Days Gone perfect example.

Thanks for that. I was considering wait for the PC version but Skillups review has intrigued me. And like you, I don't want to buy a Pro with PS5 due out in about a year.

It looks to run the same on standard PS4 as the Pro version. As long as the frame rate is stable I'm ok with that.

Come on, everyone knows he is a huge PS fanboy. That being said, why are people so surprised at the reviews?

84 (meta) is great IMO. This is Gears 5 all over again.

Yea, it was Skillup's video and his Laymen video that intrigued me.

But then I saw YongYea's video which sold me.

I still have no clue if I'm going to like this game or not, but I'm going to give it a dedicated chance.

I'm someone that has a love/hate relationship with Kojima games. I have an intense dislike of MGS 3 and 4, but quite like MGS 1,2, and V.

So this Kojima masterpiece 5 years in the making is the equivalent of a stagnant, safe and familiar Gears game.

Not even equivalent. You have to adjust for Kojima fanboys and idiots who will give it a pass just because of the stupidly weird nonsensical bullshit in it. A lot of people are also biased in favor of non sequels, too, just because they're "something different."

Basically almost ANYTHING bizarre finds a fringe audience. There are just that many people.

A boring sequel like GOW3 doesn't even get that kind of free ride. In other words, GOW3 is better than this hack job's passion project.

But in an EA game, you’d be opening them in a loot crate or special offer £3.99 for ten cans of Monster with a bonus 5 nutrigain bars for use in-game.
This is just as gross and you know it!

With this game Kojima has even surpassed western developers in taking cgi actors to the next expression level
They are only jealous because they were surpassed by a Japanese in their own turf, the AAA adult 3d games.

Though with so many cutscenes I'll have to buy another USB hard drive just for this game.

LOL, people still take Greg Miller seriously? He's a Sony fanboy like none you've ever known. Isn't he also the guy that was pretty much willing to throw his mother under a bus for Era to forgive him over something stupid?

All in all, if you are buying this, best of luck to ya. I truly hope you enjoy it. For me, with Luigis Mansion 3, Pokemon (likely both), this game would have had to come at me with real engaging gameplay to sell me on it. I have movies if I want to watch them, and even for me a big trophy junkie, I'm sick to death of walking simulator games. To me, this is just more Kojima wanting to hang out with actors cause he'd rather make movies then games, but nobody is going to fund a movie the way companies will fund him a game. I kind of hope I'm wrong, because I do enjoy some quality open world type AAA games, but putting his name on the box and casting Daryl from the Walking Dead isn't the home run they think it is to the non hardcore Kojima fans.

I've seen shit tons of commercials for this title already, and I truly don't think they will help sell any more copies of this game to casuals the way many of Sonys big titles of the last 2 years has.

Like I said, I hope it's everything you all need it to be. I'll be training to become the very best

He hasn't he died from diabetes yet?

Just based on what the reviews are saying ( not the scores ) it sounds like I'll hate this game.

Presentation and story are very important and it sounds like this game has those areas covered. But that just makes it more.... tragic that the game's gameplay is so shallow.

Is the game REALLY just hours and hours of "take thing X to point Y" fetch quests and every once and a while peppered by actual gameplay?

What a massive missed opportunity if true.

Endlessly walking while having the "gameplay" of balancing your giant backpack or else you'll drop everything and have to go pick it all up, will get boring fast.

Anyway I don't want to get too down on it without having actually played some of it but I have a feeling actual gamers are going to be far less forgiving of this than gaming journos.

Will we be able to trust the Metacritic User Score next week?

I’m afraid people who don’t buy the game are still going to post a negative review and score to bring the average down... just as some who do buy it might post a biased higher score.

either way, Will the FedEx, USPS and UPS delivery man feel a sense of accomplishment when he delivers you your physical copy?
Just kidding ;)

Why would you trust those anyway, there's no verification of ownership.

I never played anything besides the original metal gear back in the PS1 days and don't care about Kojima. What sold me is that it is supposed to be a different experience. Unlike most we consume nowadays. After playing outer worlds for some time and the falloutfatigue setting in really hard by now, im very open for a new experience. Video games got a bit boring in the last couple of years...

Well, the W3 world was packed with content, had many different encounters, awesome quests and storyline, actual enemies, almost zero fetch quests. The list goes on and on. Not really comparable to empty DS world.
