Death Stranding |OT| Keep Walking, Nothing To See Here

HOLY FUCK HOLY FUCK!!!

So.. I just did that massive walk to port knot city. Wich is awesome because you get that mission and u see that its really far and u think ''fuck thats further then I have walked so far crap.'' and I saw the mountains so did not want to leave the bike out in the wild so parked it so it was a long walk. Hard walk to, but then when u fucking make it and you go down again. omfg. What an amazing experience! Kojima shit, that was insane, such a nice reward for the traveling.

And I finally met higgs. Omfg what a scene, what a cutscene. Is this really in a fucking game? Lately almost all games I played have shitty stories, shitty cutscenes. Only red dead had it and that was amazing as well and now comes this. Fucking hell the characters are amazing.

The further I get the less I understand the reviewers lmao

Ah I haven't watched this one. So judging by a quick search she's a soap actress I think. I don't doubt that she's good in Japanese, but they should have used a dub for the English version, because this is bad.

She’s now a photographer. If you search for Mala Morgan Death Stranding, you’ll find that Kojima has been liking her IG posts and going to her gallery for awhile.

Is that some euphemism I'm not aware of? Because that is the only reason for her to be in the game, at least as far as English performance is concerned.

Yeah, I just went through that portion yesterday. At the beginning I was kind of wondering why they didn't have someone do her voice work instead. I generally don't have an issue understanding accents, but there were a few times I felt myself looking at the captions to make sure I heard things correctly, lol. But at the same time, I thought it was kind of cool that they allowed her to do it. Albeit, it wasn't the greatest, but it added some level of charm I'd say. Plus it just feels like a think you'd expect in a Kojima game, lol.

i will just post what said in famitsu review thread:

''death stranding is one best game i ever played. it feels limitless the number of things you can do in that game

im watching a playthrough from one the guys that got the game before release date and the game is dead. nothing built. and dude is about to pass me, and in my game, i have a highway across the map. strands everywhere.
i feels so alive and yet you are alone.

i think it was a mistake review a game like that the way they did. ''

Finally got dragged and killed by a BT. I had always menaged to run away before.
I had my delivery service worked out. I was driving my truck up and down delivering goods and maxing all NPCs in the region when all went to shit.
Now my failure has scarred the land. I wonder if it's permanent.

Ehm........ WOW! Look over there!! *Points out the window*
Well, took me over 20 hours to realize there's a canteen. All this time and the thought of pressing left on d-pad never crossed my mind.

I didn't know she was in the game (haven't made it to that part yet), but I've been following her on Instagram for a couple of years now. Interesting coincidence.

You know this game is fire, when you're a grown ass adult, doing your business thing at work... and still thinking about what course you're going to take when you get home to play. Also, every FedEX and UPS dude now is Sam to me. They look just as ragged, even first thing in the morning, lol.

So leave the bike to go to Port Knot (chapter 2 still correct?)? I am about to head there myself when I get home, but wanted to also run up to do a 'quick' delivery to the Wind Farm first, lol. I am currently at the Distribution Center.

It's amazing a game where the gamplay loop is delivering stuff can be this fun. And it's not even "fun....for delivering stuff" it's just fucking fun. I had a brief minute where I started to get bored of the walking, was then worried the whole game would be just that and I thought I would drag through it for the story. Then the game opened up and I am having so much fun I'm avoiding the story just to do side missions or mess around.

I agree, kojima made a huge mistake here. or they should have build more things themself to show what the strand system can do. i can imagine if you have do most things walking yea that can suck while we can build roads, bridges together. u can come across loads of ladders, ropes on annoying parts of the map that become such a relief

The walking route is not that bad actually, u can print bakes later on I heard but its all unknown to me yet so I put the bike in the garage to keep it safe cozz I got attached and just walked that way. Be sure to save your game right before you start walking uphil

Yeah that's one of the problem, the bike stops at random with 2 cm high rocks, and it just stops in a very unrealistic way.

Yeasterday i tried for half an hour to make a fucking simple 2 mt jump from a cliff to another but i got frustrated because there was alwaus some tiny rocks in the way who completely destroy the momentum.

I jumped the fucking cliff on foot in 10 sec with the power legs and a double jump, i'm not gonna use that fucking bike never again in nothing but perfectly flat surface...
It's better in the snow areas for me... and roads of course

Nice, will do. It is not that far from the Distribution Center anyhow, at least on the map.

Man, I'm at this point now where I want to just keep doing Sam's Orders and advance through the story. But then again I also want to do the side orders to get the improvements to equipment and stuff I read about. Maaaaan, THE CHOICES!

The best thing is that I'm not even going out of my way to avoid the story, it just happens naturally.

I'm doing my mission, come across that highway foundation. Figure I could make it as I have enough materials to complete it.
Deliver the stuff I was carrying, grab a trike and cross the highway.

"Cool, let's do the next main story order. hey, I can drop off this order real quick on the way."

Then arriving at the sidequest drop and notice 2 more orders to deliver at the main drop. One contains heavy load it can't carry.

"What to do? Oh wait, I have truck at the previous location. Might as well take this one order with me as I head back to get the truck"

Then I deliver the order, see more orders I can now take with me as well since I'll be using the truck and I can drop off the order on the way too.
Carry on as planned. Deliver everything and as I'm headed towards my final destination, I notice another highway foundation that is only missing 180 metal and 80 ceramics.
"Cool, I can claim that after delivering the main order."
Deliver the order, claim materials, head back to the foundation and complete that section.

Turns out there's only one more section left and I know there's enough materials at the nearby MULE camp.

Before you know it, hours have passed and I didn't even really make any progress with the story. Lol

And that is the game and his design vision working as intended. It encourages you to help everyone out, because in turn that helps you as well. And I like the Black Mirror styled "like" system and oxytocin + Oxycontin addiction of where society headed. The game truly is brilliant if you pay attention to the nuance of it all.

Of course some of those who feed off of attention and 'likes' in the games media, this will fly right over their heads with cognitive dissonance to it all, lol.

I've just seen another video on DS where someone doesn't get the balance mechanics. I'll just put this here for people who might still have trouble and didn't read everything in here where people explain it. Hold both triggers all the time on uneven terrain and when making turns, especially if you have a heavy load on your back. This balance/momentum mechanic is not in here to make you stumble on every tiny incline or rock you encounter, if you hold the triggers you're mostly fine until you walk on very steep slopes or cross deeper rivers (longer stretches of terrain that are yellow when you scan). When you balance yourself with both triggers in those cases the game will drain your exhaustion meter (the light blue overlay on top of the dark blue stamina bar) until Sam can't balance himself anymore. And if you thus plan badly and find yourself in a dangerous spot with not enough stamina to balance yourself all the way through you'll take a tumble, that's the whole reason the mechanic is there. It's not supposed to be a constant annoyance but a punishment mechanic for bad stamina and exhaustion management.

Definitely make deliveries to the old guy and the film maker in chapter 3. Both give you some really cool shit.
Aw man I tried delivering to them yesterday and cut through MULE territory then got into trouble, running and jumping over crevasses and I fucked up and landed at the bottom lol. Now I gotta sneak in and steal the stuff back.

U can’t just brute force this game, it’ll let you fall on your face. I respect that!

I was trying to jump a truck over those "canyons" when being chased by them... not a good idea. Cartoonishly got stuck in there, suspended for a couple seconds between sticking out rocks and then took the fall with all cargo half damaged. I'll need to get a couple bridges into that area.

dude.. u missed out big time man! Bet most reviewers did not know that either lol, just as I saw 2 people who did a lets play and had no idea u could hold both triggers to walk stable lol

The game literally tells you over and over as well. Then again, "let's play"...

Man, this GIF tells you everything you need to know about games media reviewing games.

The truth is that Death Stranding looks really simple, but it actually features pretty complex gameplay. This lends itself to shit talking by reviewers who assumed the game was one thing, got their shit pushed in, and came out complaining the game is a mess on the other side.

Was traveling south in chapter 3 and got ambushed by a bunch of Mules in a fucking truck. They all hopped out and tried to take my shit, but I beat down 3 of the 4 dudes and the last one hauled ass back into his truck and actually tried to run away. The terrain was super craggy and he got the truck stuck trying to get away and I caught up with him. He hopped out and I blasted him with the bola gun. Hilarious little incident.

The game is great, but am i the only one who thinks the graphics are kinda shitty?

There are some places where it looks breathtaking with its scale and view distance, but when it comes to lightning and textures its not that great tbh.

The second map especially is downright hideous with its grass apperaing in front of you and the whole colour palette is washed out and flat.

Maybe i'm gonna be flamed for that, but imho Mgs 5 looked better on the whole.

Again i appreciate the real life scale and view distance, but still

I could see why one might think it looks drab, but I love the visuals.

Grass appearing in front of you, though? One of the thing I've really appreciated about this game is how little environment pop-in (which is a big pet peeve of mine) there is. I honestly haven't noticed it at all.

Just beat it didn't do anything optional just stuck to story missions. Took around 40 hours. Overall really liked it. I was really worried the game wouldn't be for me but I enjoyed both the gameplay and story.

For me the fun part of the game is worrying about your cargo and finding the most efficient way to get it from point A to B. Balancing how much equipment you should bring with you to deal with the terrain. mules and BT while also having to consider that you're taking a bigger risk by making yourself less mobile is engaging. Having every item you're bringing with you physically manifested just adds much more realism and groundedness to the game. Combat in the game isn't the priority but there is still a decent amount and the controls work great.

Storywise while it becomes a jargon fest in the end which makes it really out there but the main story of the game is really relatable and a story that is really easy to get behind. I loved all the characters and wish we spend more time with them.

Even after I'm done with the game I still want to go back and do the optional quest. Would personally recommend if you can be open minded about an unconventional game.

Do you genuinely believe the graphics are "kinda shitty" or are you just being a contrarian?

Serious question.

I'm shocked anyone would think the graphics are shitty at all, personally. I feel like the last game that awed me this much was RDR2. The environment, the scenery, the shots, I feel like it's incredibly gorgeous. The Fox Engine was beautiful, but I feel like the Decima Engine is just as beautiful if not more so in certain moments.

I'm wondering if Kojima and crew are going to eventually create another engine of their own. A Fox Engine 2.0, if you will. :messenger_sunglasses:

It's one of the best looking games on consoles right now. There's nothing shitty about the graphics.
Can't wait to see it on pc next year.

In addition to the fun of playing the game, can I just say what a joy this OT has been?

Discovering this game with everyone, how people play, their stories, all sorts of tips and things I didn't know, amd contributing my own, has almost been a second part of the game, and an absolute sanity saver at work.

I think Kojima would love the spirit behind this thread. It almost echoes the game.

I also appreciate the way we're all full of positivity in here as well... A breath of fresh air compared to anywhere else here. StrandedGAF is born!

From experience watching my GF get into gaming recently (still unsure if she'll stick with it) people get really overwhelmed by all of the tutorial text popping up. It's actually really rare for people to stop and read it like we do. We're expecting a Kojima game, so we know better than to skip the tutorials.

But most people are not ready for the depth this, and most other games, offers...

Did not know about cycle boost until today. Thanks!

I’ve been ignoring the PCCs and building up stuff but I think I’m going to put more effort into that. The stuff other people have put into the world have saved my butt so many times, we need to spread that civilisation west!

That feeling u get when you are trudging through a downpour and come upon a Timefall shelter is pure relief!

Well, there have been some critical takes in here too, but it's just about all been mature and productive. It's just been an awesome OT all around.

Yeah, if criticism is coming from a genuine place of care, I don't really mind it. It's the empty criticism and negativity from people not really out to improve anything or help anyone that sucks and, unfortunately, the internet itself is full of it. So, like you, I've been pretty blown away by the community coming together for this game!

So yeah after my third session with the game today I got fed up, deleted it and watched all cutscenes on youtube. Some cool visuals, many twists everybody could see coming, some good surprises and SOME OF THE MOST STUPID DIALOGUE EVER. xD

Yeah I tried to like it, especially after my second time booting up the game and thinking it finally clicked all together and I would really love it, but no, game's just isn't for me. And that is fine.

MGSV gave me gameplay I liked enough to look past the unfinished state, shit characters and non existent story, while DS' gameplay just wasn't for me and the story never fully grabbed me as well as the characters also couldn't.

Hope his next game manages to do it like mgs 1-3 did as well as mgs4 as a fun meme game with some great emotional moments. But I really hope he gets off the ''open world'' train at least for one more game.

They weren't kidding about the 2 hour ending. A bit longer for me because I hit a glitch and ended up in a cycle. Had to load last save, no biggie.
Not a fan of being explained everything at the end. Still, wasn't as obnoxious as MGS4.

Time to go out and build the rest of the highway. Also zip-lines in the mountains.

This is one of the longest sp games. I play since friday about 8 or more hours a day and I am still not finished. The interesting thing is that I am hooked and its such an experience. I think I am nearing the ending and Kojima really had the balls to do it lol. Those who made it there will know what I mean
